@neat parrot not sure what the glow was but decided to keep it 🙂

noble badger
#

had a go, nice data.

#

Not my best work but not too shabby

lyric pebble
#

@neat parrot your process is incredibly beautiful

#

The guys that captured this data

noble badger
#

i think its a little bit better

ocean crystal
#

this is my attempt

minor sierra
#

Lovely data! fantastic detail!

#

WeBo 1 just in the frame is a nice addition

#

What equipment are you running? @neat parrot

neat parrot
#

i used a zwo 183 mc pro and a zenithstar 61 with an L-extreme filter

#

how did u get such nice details

neat parrot

minor sierra
#

Prolly one of my fav

neat parrot
#

also @minor sierra how did you get the stars to look like that

#

i always struggle with the stars

minor sierra
# neat parrot also <@451020154290307072> how did you get the stars to look like that

Used gaussian blur in an iterative manner to get a gradual star glow. I duplicate the star layer - blur it by 2px - use curves and clip blacks to remove the blur from dimmer stars - then blur by 2px again to remove the harsh transition caused by crushing the blacks - then duplicate the blurred layer and do another gaussian pass of 3px - then keep duplicating the 2px blur layer and each time increase the blur by 1-2px. I usually do it until I get to 35px as this creates a nice gradual glow with natural fall off.

#

And of course you can flatten all the blurred layers and then apply Saturation to get even more star color.

I haven't seen anyone do it exactly the same so I don't know if any vids on it. I am going to make a tutorial on it but it likely will be a while.

minor sierra
#

Indeed

#

One of my fav

neat parrot
#

Any Help?

minor sierra
#

Dam I forgot about making a tutorial for that, been focusing on some other content.

#

It's a process that's best explained visually, I'll get a video out on that today actually since I have time atm.

#

If I don't then remind me lmao, that's one of the main things I want to get done.

#

I have new data to process and will likely use it for the video

neat parrot
#

alright bro appreciate it

#

after 1.5 years of bad weather still can’t get my head around how good it looks

minor sierra
#

Getting the data prepared now actually. I might be able to get the video uploaded tn hopefully.

#

Making sure this data isn't gonna be ass kekw

neat parrot
#

dont hurry cuz of me

neat parrot
#

Have you gotten around to it?

minor sierra
#

Finally got it uploaded

minor sierra
neat parrot
#

thanksss sooo much

#

really appreciate it

#

btw do you also use a z61?

minor sierra
#

I did, twas my first actual imaging telescope.

#

Sold it a while back

neat parrot
#

what cam did you use with it

#

because i think the sensor size of my 183mc is too small and the stars end up looking bloated

minor sierra
#

Canon XSi / Rebel T5 / ZWO ASI 1600mm pro

#

And yea the 183 has pretty small pixels and fov

#

Id def look into a 2600mc pro if you wanna stick with OSC.

neat parrot
#

what do you think i can sell a used 183mc pro for?

#

still in pristine condition id like to believe

#

i havent really dont any astro in the past year cuz of the horrible weather

#

soo im kinda hesitant to invest into a new cam

minor sierra
#

183mc will likely go for 450-500

#

USD

#

533mc is a solid upgrade, can be had used for 600 USD.

neat parrot
#

i feel like i still have too much noise for the time im putting into a target

#

maybe i have too high expectations but after32 hours of shooting the tulip nebula with an l extreme this is what i get

minor sierra
#

Your based in UK I presume from what you said about weather kekw

neat parrot
minor sierra
#

Ahh

minor sierra
neat parrot
#

really???

#

zoom in

#

its so noisy

minor sierra
#

I would recommend keeping your blacks from clipping

#

In those darker regions.

neat parrot
#

yeah that wasnt the final process

minor sierra
neat parrot
minor sierra
#

It's the best sensor tech out rn to consumers, so it most def would lmao.

neat parrot
#

oh alr

#

what happened to the 1600 mc

#

i cant find it anywhere

minor sierra
#

Yea I that's a no go lol

neat parrot
#

wdym

minor sierra
#

My 1600mm is already rough to use. The only thing keeping it relevant is because it's monochrome. The OSC version is an older sensor than the 183mc iirc.

neat parrot
#

oh damn

#

ok

#

i used to use an old dslr and the stars were so crisp

#

thats all i miss since i got my first astro cam

#

cuz of the sensor size probably

minor sierra
#

Yup, much larger fov. So stars appear sharper. They're technically the same size, but because you've "zoomed in" closer to the optical limit, the star sizes appear larger.

neat parrot
#

yeaa

#

does something similar go for details of DSOs?

#

like better detail or what not

minor sierra
#

Yea all optics have a limit of what they can resolve. So if your camera's pixel size gets small enough, it gets to a point where the optics can't keep up. This is called "sampling".

#

So everything is affected

neat parrot
#

ahh ok makes sense

minor sierra
#

Star sizes being the most apparent

neat parrot
#

how was the transition to mono imaging?

minor sierra
#

Incredible

#

I went from a modified Canon DSLR from 2008

#

To mono so it was a massive upgrade.

neat parrot
#

I’m considering it, because i’m getting bored the red look

neat parrot
#

i’m still in awe of the colors in ur process btw

#

they look like they’re glowing
