Yeah man sorry to break it to you, but he's got some saving. People do like phone astro but most find it impractical and not worth it sometimes. I know from experience.

Most people say a dobsonion

I have no experience with them. I highly suggest just saving for a quality scope.

Dobs have probably the best value

Sorry to tell you this, but these questions always read like you want to order a car that:

  • can drive over hills like a monster truck
  • is fast like a formula 1 car
  • consumes almost no fuel
  • for the price of a used compact car
Visual / planetary and deep sky have wildly different requirements for your gear. Please pick one thing and adjust your expectations according to your budget. 😬

As stated above a Dob is the best value, but doing Deep Sky with a Dob and phone is not going to be fun. 😅

As for specific recommendations:
The Skywatcher Heritage Series is quite good (130p or 150p).
Also pretty much any 8" Dob you can get your hand on and that is not too old (for $300 you would probably have to buy used, check the mirror!) is going to be great value. 😉

Closing this as this is useless now
