this is that scope I think
I dont have much information
I dont know nothing about the telescope
The seller didnt say much
I need to ask him
can u see the link above?
Yes
did you look at it
No
like click on it
that is your scope
the link I put
It seems it's missing some bits
like the phone holder
are u sure?
No
Admire the moon craters, planets or even star clusters such as the Orion nebula, through the Skylux lens telescope. The Skylux 70/700 SF lens telescope is very suitable for getting started in the world of astronomy. But not only the night sky can be explored with this telescope. The included lens...
But do you think the one in the photo is good for 43 dollars
uhhhh 1 min
sorry for pinging you
sure
what do you want to see with the scope?
do you know?
Planets and a bit of deep space
ah...
what's your max budget?
Idk
because of how small the aperture is, you might not be able to do dso
for beginners a dob is reccomended
But too expensive
The tube is fine for planets/moon at least, smaller 70mm aperture, but I think its similar to a 76mm 700 reflector as it doesn't have anything blocking the light in the tube. Not sure about mount but it could be a pain to use. Price is pretty nice if you can't afford anything more. Step up from this is something like a z114 or orion starblast or a 114/900 reflector(can make one if you have a 3d printer look up hadley).
a lot more expensive than the scope here
that's why I asked what his budget is
For me because i want to get one now
I dont want to save up that much
Because i cant wait anymote
Anymore*
if you don't wanna spend a lot then this scope will give okay views of the planets and the moon, but be sure to have a look at the 3D printed Hadley scope as that would be significantly better
just keep in mind that whilst this scope is good for the price, compared to other scopes it isn't brilliant. the mount probably will be wobbly and hard to use, and the aperture is quite limiting
libraries sometimes do, and if not someone you know might
Yeah where i live 3d printers are very hard to finf
Find*
I have binoculars
well, you are under the "price to performance" peak. that is a nice price for what you are getting, but it's not going to be that great. Maybe could get a 114/900, but I'd say the 70mm is alright, just the mount is probably not going to be fun to use, might want to remove the diagonal mirror to see if it improves the view, and the eyepieces aren't that great.
for deep sky objects those will be better than the telescope
well, probably, what binoculars are they?
Celestron skymaster 25x70
damn those are pretty good, basically double the light collection of the 70mm refractor I think,
@quick sleet what about this?:
https://www.amazon.com/Zhumell-Portable-Altazimuth-Reflector-Telescope/dp/B07CD3MS17/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2MDO5ZSBKLEHC&keywords=zhumell+z100&qid=1685192004&sprefix=zhumell+z10%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-3
too much?
Zhumell’s innovative Z Series Dobsonian telescopes have taken the world of amateur astronomy by storm. Now, you can get Zhumell’s unmatched quality and value in a portable tabletop Dobsonian with the compact Z100. It’s the perfect way to get started with astronomy or add a grab-and-go scope to yo...
if you haven't already have a look at a tripod to put them on. those will be better than the telescope
I have a tripod
not going to have higher magnification for planets through.
you could...
but the scope might get a bit annoying
the mount
@quick sleet did you look at the link above?
sure, but planets benefit a lot from bigger aperture(size of lens/mirror) as doubling aperture allows you to see details twice as small if the atmosphere allows it.
Shloud i search for another one?
that's true yeah. i'd say to stick with the binos for now though until a better planetary scope comes up
Ok i will searh more and if i find something i will tell you
I'd try to get a 114mm one with a long tube(don't get ones with a tube half the scopes focal length those are bird jones, so have a short focal length spherical mirror resulting in much less details on planets and have a lens in the focuser which makes collimation a pain).
Oh i forgot to tell that i have a streetlamp that is right where i sit and idk how to get rid of the light
hm also do you have any woodworking experience? An option is to get a 114/900 mirror from aliexpress or somewhere else for cheap and DIY the tube/base.
@novel kindle what about a table top dob?
as long as it's parabolic sure, I had a spherical 76mm/350mm one and it was absolute garbage due to spherical abberation. actually i saw a 80mm one let me find it
zhumell z100?
is that a good one?
pretty sure it's parabolic so sure. I think the eyepieces aren't that great, and not sure if you can collimate that one
No
I didnt find anything
did you look on eBay?
No but ebay isnt used in my country and i want to have a look at the telescope before buying
if you are in the UK you can have a look on astrobuy and sell, or gumtree, but I'm guessing you aren't
I am not in the UK
are there any astronamy clubs near you
they'll help to find out about scopes and they might even loan you one
did you ever look or are u just saying that?
I didnt look but i know there are not any
And i dont know if i can even buy the telescope
what country/city do you live in
i could look for you
dm me it if you want to
Europes quite big yk
But do you live in europe
yes
Or in other continent
UK
that's why I said Europes big
if you don't want to it's fine
your choice obviously
but an astro club will help you alot
What that can i know?
so there are astronamy clubs and they're a club bout scopes practically
you can ask questions and if they're kind use other peoples scopes
Even if i want i cant
ahh...
did you research bout what scope you want
Yes
like I researched and knew I wanted a dob
what is it?
Probably a reflector
Could't find find a better deal on the same site you were searching(figured it out from the image). I think the 70mm refractor is nice for the price, there is a 100mm dob but its for like twice the price. Basically not spending a lot to get an ok telescope so later on you could get something better anyway.
What site
So is it worth it
Yup
If you want delete it
But
If all you want to do is look at the planets and double stars, should be fine for the price. If you can save up for a 114/900 or a 114mm parabolic dob its definetly worth it.
if you can
nah keep it
if you find a better scope you can just ask on here again
Ok
there is a 100/400 Heritage Dob which would be quite a bit better but its 2.5x the price.
But is a cheap telescope worth it like 80$ or a bit more
would also want a barlow for planetary uses
2x?
eh depends, i'd get the 70mm if you could get a nice scope later on, if this scope is meant to last a longer time definetly worth spending more
with the 100mm aperture you'd ideally want to get upto 200x magnification, while the 70mm would only allow you to go upto 140x
The next month i will have like 140 dollars
oh get the 100mm one then for sure.
also it's a long shot but some libraries loan out telescopes, could give that a go for a night.
that's not a thing in the UK
might not be a thing in some countries in Europe too
oh also if you don't know magnification = telescope focal length divided by eyepiece mm times barlow power, so with that heritage dob, 10mm eyepiece and a 2x barlow you'd get: 400/10 * 2 = 80x magnification. You can also add extra spacers between the barlow and the eyepiece to make it more powerful(magnify more).
Ok bye
