Im finally in a position to have the spare cash to by my first telescope, and my question is:

Is the $160 more worth spending on the Classic over the heritage, our would that money be better spent on things like a set of barlow lenses and other accessories for the Heritage?

While the portability of the Heritage is definitely very nice, I am willing to give it up depending on how big the difference in quality of image is between the two scopes is.

Finally if you have a scope you think I should look into instead that is under $500, let me know

classic just has a longer focal length going for it

thats a little more tougher but most objects you will do visual with are pretty small so you can do either

#

you can get an 8 inch dob used for $500

Quality of the images should be close to identical, The classic should be a bit better on planets due to the smaller secondary mirror. But if I was you I'd either get a 8" dob like the 200p used for $300-400, or get the heritage. The 200p is the same physical size as the classic 150p, while collecting ~70% more light at that 1200mm focal length. The heritage has a much shorter focal length of 750mm which would allow you to see more of the sky, but still be able to get high magnifications with a decent barlow, while if you used the classic you are locked into seeing around one degree of the sky at most with no simple way of seeing more.
