TS ONTC808 (8 inch newtonian telescope)
Angeleyes 2 in barlow (resulting in 1600 mm focal length)
HEQ5 Pro guiding (about 0.6 total RMS)

Image is stacked but unstretched. Also applied Photometric color calibration and BlurXterminator (since many do not have that option).

Data is ready for you to do your magic!

This is great data, but do you have any idea why one side of the galaxy is blurry and the other crisp?

rich ridge
#

interesting idea to use a barlow for dso, did you get many trailed subs or was tracking stable enough? or did you bin?

vale sparrow
vale sparrow
#

I did not use a coma corrector though, so the image is pretty much cropped into the.

rich ridge
#

uh interesting, shouldn't having guiding above the pixel scale ruin stuff?

vale sparrow
#

It will not ruin anything, just make things a little blurry.

#

But since guiding and pixel scale is very close in this case, I dont think it mattered at all.

OTW, but slow internet tonight,

uneven tartan
#

Also, only thing I can add to this image is, maybe take some bias frames as you have quite a bit of banding

#

otherwise, amazing data

Quick edit on the BlurX one, Ill check the other tomorrow, great data! Thanks for sharing

#

slight variation in colour cuz i changed my mind

vale sparrow

Just a small quick process on the without blurX stack (: Super incredible data here! Thanks for sharing

Please do!

Not great at stars which is why I remove them first but on the galaxy it looks good

sonic nexus
sonic nexus
#

Basically just put this in Pixinsight>src>scripts and feature scripts like normal lol

vale sparrow
#

Ah

#

thx, will check it out tomorrow.

timid oracle
#

I could not figure out how to remove that horizontal banding. Also, I had some DBE struggles getting the background noise out of the star halo around the galaxy. This is as good as I could get it before winding down for bed. There are some neat dim fuzzies in the background, interesting being done through a barlow!

#

i didn't know about the canonbandingreduction, i'll have to remember that (as a T7i owner!) [edit: i tried that on my final result, it worked. amazeballs πŸ˜‚ ]

#

i used starx and saturated the stars a bit, then fiddled with everything else. after noisex, i used unsharpmask to sharpen it back up a bit, then played with shadows to darken the background a little more. it had a green hue to it, i think. maybe just a weird shade of gray. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

vale sparrow
#

Tru SNCR from the noise reduction. It removes green hues

empty sparrow
vale sparrow
#

Wait

#

It comes from the stack without blur exterminator

#

There should not be any difference because it is the exactly same data set

empty sparrow
vale sparrow
#

Ooh, good info!

uneven tartan
#

After looking at the data, Ive noticed you captured the tidal tails aswell, but thats going to be AWFULLY hard to properly bring out

#

ill do my best

@vale sparrow Here's my process, hope you like it. Amazing data btw!

Brilliant!

@vale sparrow thanks for sharing! Here's my effort (PixInsight)

vale sparrow
#

Absolutely top notch!!

vale sparrow

I know. I cant use the comacorrector at same time as barlow.

lethal falcon
vale sparrow
#

It is an opticallt good barlow. Good glass. Its like a small refractor inside a large newtonian.

#

But I am surprised too. With my SW150PDS the result was less remarkable.

#

After seeing all of these great processes I am realizing just how much I cooked mine.

vale sparrow
mental lotus
#

how are all of you getting so much color out of the data? thats my progress so far (really quick edit) i even had to put it on another visual setting, to see all the details, without overblowing the core or doing to much streching

sonic nexus
#

For colours in Siril just Photometric Colourcalibration or normal Colourcalibration then just saturation

empty sparrow
#

There was already a pcc applied to the stack, so you should be able to just boost the saturation. But in case that doesn't work, do a manual color calibration. Using curves on all separate channels works best imo, but there are also tools for it.

mental lotus
sonic nexus
#

No BGE or CC

mental lotus
#

but HOW, i streched it, i did color calibration, now im gonna split RGB

sonic nexus
#

while linear

#

Should do a fairly good job at bringing the blues out

mental lotus
#

ok ill reset my progress and try it :0

sonic nexus
#

Hmm although for some reason it appears when done in linear it clips the data

sonic nexus
# mental lotus thats weird...mhmm

Ok so its because its a background neutralisation but basically use something fairly orange in the frame and use that (not the galaxies core) and itll bring some more blue tones out without clipping (done after basic stretches)

#

Left is after, right is before

mental lotus
#

thats more than dark πŸ˜‚

sonic nexus
#

Where did you use as your reference point XD

mental lotus
#

i just did background-extraction, green noise remove, stretching and after that i tried color calibration with the selection that u told me to do

sonic nexus
#

Hmm hang on

sonic nexus

sonic nexus

OMG

#

thank u so much

#

but when i tried to save it, it crashed

#

but it still saved the file

#

nice πŸ˜„

#

Which one is better? :0

#

@sonic nexus

#

oh wait u are playing rl, sry for interrupting you

sonic nexus
mental lotus
sonic nexus
# mental lotus

Ahh the IFN cloud thing XD just requires more stretching tbh and if you want sharpness the best thing i can think of is sharpening wavelets or Registax sharpening

#

Deconvolution is great but not so great in siril sadly

mental lotus
#

yes i hate Deconvolution, literally 0 changes

mental lotus
#

nvm im just gonna download Registax

mental lotus
#

so

#

Main processing is finished

#

now im gonna edit it a little bit in photoshop

#

here are all 5 versions

#

now photoshop πŸ˜„

sonic nexus
# mental lotus

Looks great! Definitely sharpen without the stars in the image tho so they dont look overly bright

mental lotus
#

its finished, its rendering now

#

@sonic nexus here is the final version πŸ˜„

Worked in SiriL and messed around a bit in PS. Somehow just realized the banding 30 seconds ago so I guess its staying. Thanks for the data!

did you use a coma corrector too with the barlow?

idk why but I just love the colors and the look of this galaxy. im addicted to it and i cant explain why lol

Very new to processing, Second time ever doing a galaxy but your data definitely made things enjoyable to work with. Many thanks πŸ™‚

I think I messed up somewhere. @shrewd warren thoughts?

shrewd warren
#

Looks great to me

warm pasture
#

Ah, alright. I was really stoked for how this came out. Felt wierd though. I think I pushed the background stars too hard.

shrewd warren
rich ridge
#

I like the amount of stars, you loose a bit of detail in the core but it's nice overall (yes I know they're the wrong stars)

carmine turtle
#

very nice data

shrewd warren
carmine turtle
#

I did star reduction, guess i did it too hard in ps that some of the stars dissappeard.

#

But i think star reduction wasnt really needed anyway.

#

Just for the aestheticsgigabunny

One with too many stars and one with none

Perfectly balanced

I believe Siril stretches the stars and background separetly now with the Starnet implementation. Good details though.
