Idk, probably less than 50 bucks for the smallest complete design, which is a rigged up one of those portable dish tailgaters, like what saveitforparts made. Ive probsbly spent like 100 bucks on all my gear. But you could easily end up just as in the hole as with any other hobby.

Even more so. You need to do interferrometry if you want really good resolution.

Anywhere is fine, but radio has light pollution too.

You can mostly only look at one point at a time. So you gotta scan across the sky.

it worked well but sadly i forgot it has a wierd optical error i dont really know how to fight, each sharp star has a circle around it, it's not a blur it's a sharp disc. id say its a reflection from the sensor bouncing of the lens and back on the sensor so there is an out of focus star placed on the in focus star. tho i don't undrstand why it would happend since im using filters so a filter lets through only red light and rflects the rest, whatver happends to that rest doesn't concern me since it's never gonna reach the sensor. can it be an issue of f/ratio? i read that my filters are good from f/4 and up and that scope is f/2.8, could it be that?

I just found a Teleconverter from the 90s, I I just try’d with my IPhone 17 pro 4x (100mm) Tele camera and surprisingly work very good, it’s a 1,9x lens.

16” F5 prime focus newt on Juwei 17, thrown together in a few hours using a $50 drainage chamber, lampshade and random bits of wood… shonky as it is it worked just about well enough to track, focus, collimate and star test. Now to rebuild with carbon fibre struts, plates and steel wire rope.

It does look that way but think the illusion is due to it being prime focus, so the ‘tube’ is that bit longer than normal newt, plus there’s only three struts so looks thinner…mirror is 405mm aperture and 2020mm FL
