i like wooden tubed newts they look very nice
"Night sight? Nah never heard of it"
Now I want a nice 24" Newt made from a tree trunk.
LMAOOO I ALSO SAW THIS
whats this from?
Bro looking at his wiener
Text in English below
"Good evening, I am here to present my astronomy project.
A telescope inspired by the James Webb to photograph various stars, planets, and especially the moon. It still needs some details, but it is 90% ready. If you want to see the photos, I will post them here."
Actually looks slick
Was about to post and saw u Already did
tf is that
Didn't have any string to catch the hood when it fell off but i did have a 3d printer with a chain link STL 🙂
I suspect it might be a test by Celestron itself to "certify" how much weight the corrector plate can handle.
There are some pretty heavy cameras that people use. If it can’t handle much weight, it might break like that due to the camera’s weight. That’s probably the purpose of this test
Those are some heavy cameras for a hyperstar
the moan of agony and despair
At least it’s only a rasa
wouldn't the pressure even way before breaking cause a distortion in the correction glass
with just regular heavy equipment
Its not a rasa
its got the optical path of a rasa
Not the design
Scope is pointed the wrong way
ye
they should really use a small SCT design for scopes
actually those would need collimating
In case of a plane is in the view of the telescope when you take a 1200s sub
Negative ghost rider. Cassegrain at small apertures are terrible optically compared to refractor type. There's no need to zoom in too far either, you can see heat haze/mirage through the optics after a couple of hundred meters
Well, help me i cracked my filter (red filter too)
that chip isnt the worst of it 😭
It is tho, thats a weak spot and if i handle that brittle piece of glass a bit wrong it will break
large as scrape in the green aswell
The funny thing is that in theory this would actually work really well.
Hol up… the more I look at that image, the more cursed it becomes… like that focuser… and the „tube rings”
The wedge
I just noticed the alarm clock being used as the motor 😭 😭
Would it work if there were no reduction from the clock axis to the mount axis
Clock 12 hours, day 24
Cursed CEO is back say hi (please)
hi
please present your work
hi
My new travel rig
Please no
I don't know. I think the blue tape on it brings everything together.
I had to go with the classic electrical tape. #1087219932900638720 message
Now release your grip

I'm not trying to repeat what Astrobisquit did with his tak... at least not today
Hello, I am here to confiscate your tak
took this with my phone and a dob untracked, idk how
LMAOOOO
Why would you have such a thick knob just to then connect it to the mount with a tiny screw?
Dude, there is an address in the picture. Maybe not yours, but would delete or crop it.
Maybe he wants unexpected visitors
heh
By the way now I know where to look for a mount, thanks!
I want friends🥺
Not that cursed but whatever
mildly cursed
what?
I meant sites like cloudy nights or the #1023613540587810846 chat, totally not someones backyard
K
HIII was thinking if ur active still
Seestar in a remote observatory pier is crazy...
Sounds like a plan to me. Cheap telescope with everything in it, cheap mac to control it. In a remote location… but weird to pay as much for the pier in about 8/9 months what you also paid for your setup…
not if you have some extra space for it, If there's just a empty place sitting there and no scope and mount to put then why not put the seestar
Because it’s a commercial rent-a-pier… $150 per month or so, for the cheapest spots?
the Mac mini is like the same price as the seestar, it does NOT need that to just control it
No, I’ve been looking to a raspberry pi to do the same. But hey, I don’t have remote rent-a-pier money atm either 😂
oh damn it's that much? yea nvm then it's just cursed
this slowmode is killing me
The cheapest pier; https://starfront.space/mini-pier-reservation-deposit/pier/item
yeah that's absolutely not worth it😭
To be honest, it’s that this is in America. If they would offer the same service for the same price in Europe, I might be interested. But at least twice as expensive, far more clouds…
i meaan, if you think about it. 149 a month for bortle 1 skies and like 270 clear nights a year. Its not bad, there are other observatories which you can rent a pier and they cost way more
youll outpay the cost of the seestar in no time. people are incredibly stupid to send a seestar of all things, remote.
Ik that now, when i said that i didn't know how expensive sending something remote actually was, i never looked at it
Diy dovetail
bro has a rig inspector not an imaging cam
What u mean
isnt that gonna point at the tracker
I may js get resl dovetail when i buy the sa gti
Best way to do darks idd. Image the specifics of your sensor with another sensor…
😭
Can't tell if that's smart or dumb..
full axis guider 💀
Doubled the weight capacity
I'm bored so I scrolled through a lot of this chat and this is definitely most caused thing I saw here, even more cursed than the newt in a dishwasher
scope claustrophobia
I'd bang the tripod, mount, CW, OTA, my knees, elbows, and head trying to get that thing in and out of that closet.
Oh, nothing wrong there. Just some hot pixels. Make some darks, lights and bias-frames and you can adjust for that.
i think the flame could cause some distortion so you may have to take more than average amount of data
there are flames coming out of the tube and its clearly burnt at the bottom
Its just photoshopped well
I dont believe someone burned their 14 inch
Of course it's Photoshop . Who would put their eye on a burning telescope?
I just took the image from a group.
I would
I would
This looks like me trying to hide in a dryer when hide & seek
Don't underestimate people.
ive put many acids on my hand to test how burny they were :3
when we were doing electrolysis i sniffed the chlorine gas coming off the HCl :3
Eep
its pointing too high up, it isn't
looks like a sad scope, looking down
the telescope being pointed like that isnt the cursed part, its that a 10" or 12" rc is on a eq3-2 or eq5 pro mount
looks more like an HEQ5
oh yeah now i see when taking a closer look
Why It looks like a compressor
My man imaging with a volumetric flask
litterally like my telescopes dew sheild
how did you make your name like that
Bold + italics
how
i tried to add the ** and it didnt work
I just copy and pasted my name here when I typed it in a separate program with bold and italics
poor mount
No mount vere broken
bro got inches and mm wrong for a tube ring 💀
bro i said 5cm not 5 inches
😐
I also saw it and thought "wait a minute, isn't that a zwo camera?" https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AjqK7MEym70
How old is this photo? Almost looks as if it was taken on a VHS camera or something...
You don’t need ZWO drivers if it’s not plugged in
When I did the solar eclipse
Results?
results? fried sensor
ay, 80% less sun = 80% less light, so perhaps the sensor didnt get fried :D
It didnt ruin it 😭
🙏
cooked to perfection
medium rare
I'm really sorry but when I saw this I thought of some VERY dirty thoughts
no comment on those
woahh
I didn't take the screenshot. I just sent it here in the group
= Pentapod
sounds like a dinosour
It´s a Schiefspiegler Teleskop. Cursed looking, but it´s interesting
What the
?
Survey says: ✅
Vixen gp dx is the best mount ever
A friend is using it with a 254mm f/5. Mount abuse
hell naw
I'm not sure which is suffering more here; and I wonder if it's actually the OTA
An EQ6-R Pro here in Brazil (converted) is 3,500 US dollars. So, some people take the risk of doing these crazy things with an EQ5
If you don't convert, it's even more expensive because we don't earn in dollars. Anyway, astrophotography is complicated here
Many dumb taxes on products that are not available in the domestic market
That is my setup
It's a telescope on top of a telescope. I wanted a finder scope that could zoom that could fit in the budget so I bought it from a flee market for $10.
I don't like telescopes that have corrector plates. They could shatter.
Yes fr
Dual-wield setup budget edition
does it not tip over?
no surprisingly not lol
it looks like it would
add a stepper motor and make it track😼
rectangle frac
cursed community report yourselves!
You should not be allowed to own cameras
Real
Literally my rig rn
Poor mount
bro never heard of a counterweight
This is exactly why they say eq mounts are not for beginners
Cursed?
@sly egret do it
Mount snapping experience
it’s under the payload capacity
Yk a guy that foes that and kinda works
oh hey this is nearly the same as what i have, just an eqm35 pro instead of the gti
Eqm35 pro has a 22 lb capacity. Gti has 11 so bit of a difference
I wanted to do it too a couple of months back
I wanna see the images.
Also to note, I only had the heritage on the gti. I took it off after it felt like it was going to tip over. Counterweights were on but I took them off before I took the photo
I can give you his tiktok account, its astro ticktalks
yes please I need to see this
I would rather die
omw then
Us that a double dob?
Is that a SeeStar mounted on a large ball mount, holding a guide cam that's being guided by a DSLR?
Bro
This setups look´s like an AI generate telescope. It´s all cursed
and it's using another dslr as a counter weight
Idk why this got a skull emoji, modern problems require modern solutions
where is the seestar
im genuinely going to do this in the future, the other side of the ra axis spins too so it tracks the sky normally. Nothing wrong with it
I may just tape my phone on there when the milky way core comes back
i cant see it either
it looks like a normal mount
is that one of those cheap phone cooling fans 😭
this counterweight also looks like it was in a war
other than the fan though it really isnt that cursed
New LTT video: We watercooled a DSLR and overclocked it to the absolute limits!
words cannot explain how disguisted i am, but this drawing i made can
This is honestly amazing
200mm on a cg3/eq2
Fantastic sight isn't it
Noooo
How
I think you need more scope bro
Wtf
Just needs orange paint then it'll be a traffic cone
new lens
🇵🇱
Tair 3S is a blessing not a curse
Gotta put that focal length somewhere
DUDEEE! i felt every muscle in my body contract in a single moment
i think those are 2 barlows, they move the point of focus further away making the whole train od stuff on the focuser longer
I got a telescope from temu
My man wants to end up like that one Polish police Commander
(For context a polish police Commander got a grenade launcher as a gift and ended up firing it in his office)
That was 6 hilarious incompetence incidents ago, I only just heard about some 250 land mines that went missing and turned up in an IKEA magazine 😂
Thick
Im so thick of it
ehy does it have a 1.25 inch focuser 😂😭😭
im in the thick of it everybody knows
User has been Blocked.
good
looks ok to me
Key in guide scope
Looks like a laser
@fossil gazelle
Oh, my fail
why don't people ever learn, stop leaving keys in the ignition you won't be so happy when someone drives your baby away
I don't know if that's cursed enough but I'm making my own counterweights because I'm a cheap ass student
(I will pour concrete after filling it with scrap)
Its smart
how heavy is it gonna be?
3-3.5kg
you must be superman to bend that rebar
it's just 8mm, vice and a metal pipe did the trick
ah nice
I thought it was a whole big bucket
it's a 3d printed "mold" cylinder r=80mm h=60mm and the hole in the middle is 22mm wide
I can take wide shots with this
nothing cursed here, id guess at least 70% of people here started with AP using a smartphone
This time i don't have to place a piece of tissue on the floor and put my phone flat on it to take pics
Taken with a phone and a swasa 2i polar scope, its jupiter, you can see one of its moons i think
Damnn
Bro polar aligned to jupiter💀
i thought the mini tripod legs were drone propellor blades
I don’t even know what I’m looking at… looks like a modern art piece
Atleast with other setups you can still identify the lens or scope and the cam, wtf even is this
Why does the tube look like a big pot
I want to do it
do it
The 50mm looks so tiny compared to the 60mm
nice tilt aswell
what a stupid observatory design
Lamppost mount
I'm not so sure the frac survived, who knows what sort of internal havoc was wrought.
If that's a remote observatory, I'd be cancelling sub, demanding refund, and 2x cost of the setup I sent.
you prob wouldnt be getting 2x
That's what I'd be telling them that they need to pay. "Your setup broke my setup, you were careless."
i dont think they would give out that much more than what was lost, maybe 1.5x the value of the setups at most
Probably signed a contract that prevents suing for more than it’s worth or something
I'm sure they did. However, if the door didn't rise before the roof came back then that points to negligence and might be something that the owner can take action.
Inb4 it’s starfront and you get no refund and no reimbursement and you have to pay the rest of your contract plus repair costs for the garage door mechanism and safety system.
You serious? Well call that another reason to not work with them. They can't properly maintain their equipment but it's the fault of the user. You'd think that they wouldn't want to mess with people who have tens of thousands to invest on equipment, then another couple hundred monthly to put down, basically "spare cash" they're using. Someone with that sort of resource might have some access to legal resources
Not serious and this isnt starfront, but i wouldnt be surprised if it was.
afaik starfront dont have a contract system?
sush i am dissing a company
Why do dislike starfront
sketchy management
that can't be enough counter weights
What if the primary is made from carbon fiber
i've seen light weight mirro designs but never made from carbon fiber
Would be a cool project to try and make

250mm F1.2 … Juwei 17
Where do i buy this and how much does it cost
Well…ya could try “Retired Cold War Survillence Ltd”… and about 400 bucks
Double curse!
Ayyy why the hell do the stars and the field look so good on this thing!
Have you tried imaging any nebula with it, not just the stars?
It’s got a 60mm imaging circle and field seems pretty flat with a 2600MC but, and there’s some cursed BUTs - the focal plane is only 15mm from the metal back, so hard to install filters…Nebs I’ve tried a bit with no filters but I’m under Bortle 8 so it struggles. At F1.2 filters probably gonna struggle. I’ve taped a Baader 50mm square 34nM Ha filter rated to F2.8 to the camera window to see what happens. It’s cursed I tell ya! So much potential but just out of reach.
filters?? I dont need no filters this thing is going to destroy em galaxies
This thing is quite cheap, like damn 400 bucks for a 250mm f1.2
I wonder if i can attach my dslr on it and us it as a lens for street photography

Yeah, but it is 40 years old, with limited use cases these days…originally it was strapped under a RAF Canberra flying high fast to spy on gawd knows what. It then had a life spotting supernovas for University Astro society.
Sort of what I was thinking… I got a old medium format Phase One 45+ camera back which I was hoping to try with it.
Well now I need to design my own
what design is it?
Not sure what it’s called, it’s got a front corrector plate with a Mangin mirror, primary and another corrector
is the corrector plate similar to a mak's?
Not entirely sure the geometry of the front corrector plate… it is like a “Gregory Spot Mak” with its slivered mirror, but this has a secondary corrector at the camera side. Don’t know much more at this stage of things
Filter seems to do something at least…18 x60s stack straight out of ASIAIR, graxpert, BXT, GHS
I need one! For...... stuff....
Would you mind showing the photo before BXT? I’m trying to design a similar system and want to know what level I’m striving for 🙂
That’s sharp!
ouch
atleast it didnt happen on the other side with like 7 diffrent telescopes
Will do when free
This seems on first glance to be the same or very similar design https://www.primalucelab.com/astrographs/officina-stellare-veloce-rh200-f3-athermal.html
convergent front corrector, Mangin primary, Gregory spot, two lens flattener
PrimaLuceLab
Officina Stellare Veloce RH200 f3 athermal with ESATTO 3,5" LP: Buy online | Primalucelab.com? Officina Stellare Veloce RH 200 (Riccardi-Honders) athermal astrograph offers a fast f/3 focal ratio combined with a large corrected field. Veloce in Italian means fas
That looks killer for outreach with EAA
I would trip so much times
primary mirror heater?
I know the Gti can handle the Askar 71f, but even that is pushing it. But THAT reflector?? Oh hell naw
I saw this on facebook one of the most coolest scopes I've ever seen
hexagons are the bestagon
I'm done, 3d printed counter weight
I'm now tempted to cast my own counterweights with lead
that's way more efficient than concreate and steel
Uranium would be more efficient but something about "nuclear proliferation treaties" prevents me from purchasing any
but also, uranium finnaly ends up as lead anyway so i don't think it's worth the hastle
Good point
how heavy did it turn out?

My setup
I weighed it but my scale only goes up to 3kg and it spits out an error so
3Kg
Doesn't that Tring going down to 1.25" introduce some awful vignetting?
not really
intresting, maybe i can use my 1.25' barlow with my dslr for some galaxy shooting
i checked and after some tinkering and magic of 3d printing im gonna shoot M101 with a 2x barlow, when looking at distant trees i didn't see any wierd abberations but stars wil show it for sure, thnaks for the idea @copper heath
litle cheap frac?
I SAW IN INSTA😂😂😂
And i saw that bird shat on ur lens😭
Yes
the best astrograph is a cheap guide scope
#🤩-show-us-your-rig message
the guide scope is the 6" newt btw
why

I've wanted to hand guide exposures using my RC as the guidescope lol
ita a joke 😭
smool
that is the Greatest imaging Newtonian ive ever seen, got a larger central obstruction than an rc
I actually suspect it might not be larger
This one was probably quite difficult to collimate
The shit people do just to not use a newtonian. (joke)
and for good reasons
Focal length of 20 fridges
What's that? You don't want a f/450 refractor?
this thing looks like a fire hydrant
I wanted to do wide field
I think your rig is over payload capacity for that mount. Sorry to break the news
Sometimes you gotta take a risk or two
where counterweight
The smallest counterweight I had was a 5kg and the hole setup is less then a kilo
get a lighter countweight.
NEVER use a mount without one
I found if I bring the bar out far enough that was enough weight
perfect 😭
Use the bar as a counterweight... It alone should be enough.
I did
Not even cursed
Bro saved 30£
“We have a Astro cam at home”
At that price I'd be tempted to buy one to see what it could actually do. I'm sure it's garbage, but it would be a fun trial
I’m quite tempted to
2k 4 million high definition😱
I think the 4 million is referring to the pixel count
Hot pixel count*

My setup was cursed by the weather gods
You should just give it to me then
A little cursed maybe?
Maybe we’ve been doing it wrong the whole time
..
I thought that was bird dookie
It is
I bet that happened mid season
Now I see... My phone pasted some text when I tried to send the photo.
@slim tree Okay I think I found an advantage to using SCT vs. Newtonian. Cleanup for that is "carefully wipe off the outside." Newtonian is "Ohhh f." and take apart the OTA.
There’s alway a advantage with a sct
reasons to buy a dew shield
Use dustcaps next time 🙏
been there before
Lmaooo
just saw this on cn classified, idk what im looking at
Now that’s how a Dobson telescope should look
Eq Dob
big screw
Helical focuser, I've heard of. Helical OTA is another level altogether.
Imagine if the focuser was helical and all the gearing was also helical.
helter skelter
sorry i had a little accident 😔
their fault for using an sct
how could you...
i will not tolerate the sct hate
absolutely not, now say sorry!
sowwy :<
Budget starsense
I also doing this, and it works very well with Stellarium. I can find anything with this method
I'll try it out next few days my finderscope literally wobbles when I align something
But very important you also have to Aline the stars with the App and you telescope
Yeah true inaccurate gps within phone could be problem but worth trying
The App will show all the stars left wisch is wrong
I have a method it works so easy and accurate
I'll change location in the app to align stars at High magnification
You don’t have to I found with this method Jupiter in daylight Venus and even the iss
Damn what
I tell you later how I did this
Alright thank you brother there's slowmode here
🚙 tripod
aura. is he staring at the sun?
i mean with that it looks like an f/10 or more he probably can
Things people do just to NOT buy a newtonian 🙏 🙏
i think thats much more than f/10
This + a loan
Probably has the f stop to look at the sun without a filter
Well, let's see. That might be an 8" so ~200mm. Length ~20', or ~240", which is ~6,096mm, we'll round it to 6100mm.
6100mm / 200mm = f/30.5
However, I can't find anything that establishes an F/stop at which it is safe to view the sun without a filter.
it looks about f30 to me
i think f100 would almost allow you to it has to be a really high f stop
6100mm fl for seeing craters on the Pluto
yeah that’s a rounder number
is this a star adventurer 2i and a rokinon 135mm?
I think it’s more down to front aperture not focal ratio. For energy reduction. Still going the be stupidly bright.
I can’t find it
i asked chatgpt and it said f/316
Swsa mini and canon 55-250mm
dang
i wouldn't trust that personally
Why
Bro needs to double align his finderscope
finderscope for the finderscope
perfectly normal
Now but these three scopes on this and you have the perfect rig
Get another guide scope for the guide scopes guide scope
Portable right?
Hopefully won't need a rain cover! 😂
the kid got sold for a telescope lmao
Everything is portable, with the proper equipment.
Sometimes you can hold it in your arm, sometimes you need a hand truck ... and sometimes you need a CH-47 Chinook.
Sometimes you need a space shuttle
Yeah, that would take care of having to figure how to image through atmosphere.
You know, I might seriously suggest this to a friend who works with the university's scopes of the same form factor
It kinda works the eq mount is much stable than it looks
IMPROVED???
this might work for "all telescopes"
Is this enough for an 8" newt?
It looks like a small fork is just being used
Hi, can you ask the seller if this is enough for a 20" Ritchey-Chrétien? Thanks.
it says all, so yes it is
I mean it says all telescopes
the only thing cursed here is that ladder, wide boi
and one supporting leg on the back
oh yea i didnt see that, one wring move and the whole thing goes
Kinda what I imagine tw's scope to look like
Probably also the like 6' finderscope. Might be an 8'?
Became a little create
8 foot finderscope? Jeez
Me when i get my gtii
if it saves money AND works it's not stupid
Is that a a piece of floorboard
It actually does not save money. Im just making holiday in bortle 3-4 region and forgot that thingy to attach my Camera to the gti
Its wood I found somewhere
Damn it "
back when poons-broks was supper bright i was planning on going to a dark site to observe and photograph it, i knew i was gonna use my telecope for photographing it as long as i could see it but i really wanted to see it with my own eyes so i wanted to put my binoculars on a manfrontto mount for ease of use but i didn have a stupid L-shaped piece of metal to mount it properly so i went on a scavenger hunt on my bike to find a piece of wood i could make it out of. i found something better, it was on the side of the road, a piece of those aluminium side bumpers on trucks, i took it home, cut it, bent it and now i have a lovely adapter out of aluminium
and i managed to finish it before going out so my friend and I had pretty nice views of the comet
good times
Would this work
The most inpressive thing about this image is the fact that the refractor is so huge that it makes sense to have a c8 as a guidescope
Dear god what is that?
big teleskop
Wow
the extremely large telescope (no dome)
(ik but why is it in cursed setups)
for this cursed thing
“for any telescope”
Oh yeah I didn't think it was related haha I thought you were just saying the elt was cursed
In that case, might as well include the dome
lmao
The Extra-Ordinarily Large Telescope?
overwhelmingly large telescope
never to be built
Yes I knew there was a name I couldn't remember it that's much better than extraordinary. It would be overwhelmingly difficult and expensive to build.
unless
bake sale time!
Bruh
No that's cursed
You know it's serious when the secondary is 4 times bigger than an rc1000 🔥
Oh no....
So I saw this thread on CN about Apertura 6" RCs and someone asked if it would be better at planetary observation than a ZenithStar 73.
I quickly realized the secondary mirror of the 6" RC is larger than the objective of the ZenithStar.
It's probably gonna be 10 times better lol, altough cdk's are better for planetary afaik
Cdks have larger CO tho
What am i looking at
looks like it's a really crudely slapped together radio setup
bro got a eq mount for a radio scope
that only slews in RA
ah
Yeah, otherwise the images will trail.
Maybe not noticeable at this resolution but still

is that camera zip tied to the dovetail
yeah

ngl the zip ties are the only cursed thing in that the cardboard is fine. Astro cam on a lens is odd though
a kit lens at that i believe
a kit lens that actually didn't come kit with my dslr too, bought it separately a few years ago
yeah that canon lens was my first lens i bought for astro lol
ok ya kit lens is pretty weird
Seestar EQ mod
(Not mine, from FB)
I'm a newt guy so idk how well the cardboard is actually gonna work on a lens like this lol, but it was about the best option I had for this test/for fun thing so here i am
I haven't done much widefield so idk either but I'd say cardboard should be fine
😭
Cardboard is fine 🔥
frfr, I wouldn't spend $170 on a slightly prettier aluminum one
this is beatufyl
alot of theese telescopes look Ai generated for real
cardboard gang
No, i have the same mount. It real setup
Some nice binoculars
and that mount is not
Never flame the AZEQ5 again
Bros defensive
That thing is doing 60s unguided subs with 9kg of payload just fine, goated mount fr
I know they are real im saying it looks like a AI attempt to make a astronomy rig
Wat da hail
Alright hear me out. Steam powered telescope. Use pistons to turn a crankshaft, connected to a gear, to spin the telescope to where it needs to look. (Absolute genius)
I believe that the word we're going to learn in this setup would be "Turbulence". With a descriptor of "severe"
Steam emgime
i can hear the sound of it crashing down
This is a completely appropriate amount of counterweights
please make it functional
i love this
Thanks lol
Yo that's actually awesome
If you made little plastic or metal ones i would definitely buy one for my desk
This is so cool
I added a dowetail to my 3d printed telescope and it's balance plus a slight high spot on the bottom makes it sit on a single point of contact removing pretty much any friction with the surface it's on, makes for a really cool fidget toy
I can make a tutorial vid on how to make a mini SCT model if you’d like! I don’t think I can do the edgehd11 on the eq wedge as I only had the materials to make 1, but I can do a Celestron Nexstar 8SE or even a dobsonian if you want! 😊 though it wouldn’t be optically functional and just a toy lol
That would be awesome. I'd definitely try it
the hot glue. That's so cool though
I know 😭
I love the tiny Celestron logo
its perfectly balanced on my taps, i cant see no issues haha
In case anyone is wondering wtf this is, a gopro 10 on the end of my selfie stick powered by my powerbank sticking out my kitchen window haha
Balance perfection 👌 🤣🤣
Narrowband with 18/55mm kit lens from canon
how bro did that

flavour
explain. also can you know attach this to a dslr?
It explains itself
astrophotographer but can't focus a normal picture
brudda i took a pic before my phone autofocused
can't focus with autofocus
Excuses
Should be manual at all times
If you manually focus your phone you are a complete psycho
I manually focus my phone
Anything can be achieved with enough tape/zipties
yea me too, i get better focus then the automatic one so why shouldn't we right
Wellwellwell
mailbox light blocker
seestar s50 Setup not the worst
Not cursed.
Not cursed at all
is this cusrsed for testing focus on a tree far away?
the setup itself isn't cursed
wil be when i steal the focusing knobs
Well that could apply to any setup in fairness
yeah....
wanna try and make the most of MW season when it gets here 😂 dslr, phone and gopro
Does…. Does that even work….
yes lol its on a star tracker so all 3 track fine
i can slide the bar across and also the phone and gopro separately so balancing is easy as well
I was thinking of trying this
https://amzn.eu/d/5YVJSvM this is what I got, it has 3/8 thread on bottom and then adapters for 3/8 to 1/4 for on top
Has someone made this a real image yet lmao
I like putting random things on my mount, so I probably could make it happen
barbeque
Flower pot
Equatorially stabilased cactus plant, 100% photosyntesys automation for your convinience!
This will revolutionize global food production. One problem: how will the cactus get sunlight when its night. Will the rays pass through earth and reach the cactus (which is conviniently pointing to the sun)?
you an youse an equatoriam mount during the day tho
but we hear your concern
so we developed a NEW product!!!
i here by present to you
an artifitial SUN!!
it always points towards the sun
Eq dob mod
Actually insanely useful invention. Where do we test it?
France.
Good idea
the actual weight of that is gonna be sad
Under ur bed
What about at ur guide scope?
No wonder my coffee was so hot. The bomb probably exploded there
Wait i have a banger idea
Lets put a gaming setup on the equatorial mount. And on another equatorial mount we put a chair with straps so we dont fall off. And along with gaming monitor we can put like a guidescope. So we do gaming and when we are bored just spin around the whole setup to our desired DSO/SSO and look through the eyepiece

INSANE IDEA:
Attach a solar panel on this and make it track the sun. So the solar panel will get most optimal sunlight for the whole day

Absolute cinema
(eq)^2
This looks kinda cool
All that for a DSLR? No, wait, a vintage late-'90's cell phone camera. Just the sensor and lens
which of these is more cursed as a weight
i shouldn't have reminded you about the weight bag
no i reminded myself after my rig keeps on almost falling over while polar aligning
why can't you just put a weight in it like everyone else does
i don't have any weights here, its either objects or rocks on the ground
use a big rock then
yea but the 2i is right there
It's cursed tho😿
ZWO tripods look a lot bigger in photos (Insert "That's what she said joke here"). Imma go for ol' frac
if you missed general i did this afterwards
Add a brick too
bob learnt today that he can extend tripod legs
no i already knew that, today i learned that bigger triangle means more stable
Not my setup
im more concerned with lack of counterweight
But hey... he got a guidescope on top of a guidescope
piggyback rig
Just slap every piece of optics on top of an unbalanced EQ6 and call it professional settup🤣 🤣 🤣
you give that one Little Tip and weeee!! Crash
WTF
Nightmare fuel
Poor EQ6, without counterweights too 😭
NO COUNTERWEIGHT??
Who needs them? Guy thinks that belt drive and harmonic drive are the same
Can you belive me that when I started astrophotography I was taking advice from that dood?
Which dood
The inventor of the abomination that I posted earlier. I shall keep him anonymous
Yall i finally found a mount for my spotting scope ☺️
A fellow dob on EQ user
Yes
how many wars has your counterweight been through
Gone through hell and back
Wtf? There's no way he pulls 5 second subs on that thing.
I don't think he ever imaged anything
Still waiting for someone with a RASA and a 20mm eyepiece in front
To he fair to me its a temporary solution
Too much
Definitely looks like it has been used
But hey i does its Job perfectly
Well... yours looks like a counterweight, mine looks like a suggestion
See? Suggestion
This seems more for aesthetic purposes than to actually help in anything
Yeah it looks tiny 🤏
Adds about 2kg of counterweight. Helps me sleep better at night 😂
the mount suffers from no mount woblle look at a ower line almost 5 kilomiters away
Rather have too much then too little
I'd rather have something than nothing
Yeah
Plus I need to find a way to put the counterweights from the HEQ-5 to the 20mm shaft on the 150i
I don’t have a guide scope cap
Cool😀😀😀
I see that you found a handy solution.
We know you're serious when the glove comes off.
Before then you're just kinda pointing in the general direction.
You have the essential things to get a grip on your task.
The only question is how to give a thumbs up?
😂
Give it a high5
PHD2 : "(taking darks) Cover the guidescope!"
you: "time to glove up."
means your astrophotography jurney is going great
bob why are your feet not extended and more importantly why is there one missing
He didn't know tripod legs corks be extended
that song
embedding shikonokonokokoishtantan into my brain permanently was very funny but a bad idea
I'll see that tune, and raise you "Barbara's Rhubarb Bar"
#bodowartke #einversuch #onetake #r...
meh, with my new setup (dobson untracked and my phone's shitty camera)) i was able to progress alot tho, this is my progress : P
for a phone, this is great
Lobotomy kaisen
nice jupi man
Jupitune
hell naw
But it's a skywatcher they said
I think you are forgetting this is a kids server
yeah please everyone don't post stuff that's NSFW, thank you
what did they post
At some point in the future I will be getting a dumpster refractor to image with.
Cheese
I got one. Perfect SkyWatcher 70/900 achromat
did somebody post a picture of a 50/2000 telescope which had a cooled camera, filter wheel and an eaf attached to it?
worse.
Was it corn
close
What was it
Dm
REALLY CURSED FOR A KIDS SERVER
Very cursed ya ngl
central obstruction = yes
it didnt sit right with me
i feel like thats gonna cause weird patterns on your images too lol
defo an easy way to get messed up diffraction spikes
that setup has some stance
Atleast is not a visual eyepiece
don't make me even think about that
I'm now curious too
Last one.
I’m also curious
Here me out widefield and deep space in the same lens
Better to buy an ferrari and use it as a camera stand
small wheel for qick focus changes
Its diy fine focus
to get fine focus adjustment you need a bigger wheel than deafult
Bonus points for style. Try to find the chrome ones. Put some bling on that thing
Toob
I'm hoping this is some sort of baffle tube and not the backfocus you need.
not a cursed setup but i think lyra looks more like a kid's drawing of a sailboat then a lyre/harp, ya'll cant unsee it now
Double tracker = double tracking accuracy
This fricking hurts me how dare you imbecile
AYO
What
ouch

Celestron mount 🥀🥀🥀
oh mine god
Toooooooooooooooooob
why do you need dat do?
I don't
Oh good fair i bet it's just a wouldn't it be silly if i- Moment?
Precisely
Fair enough
celestron is awesome
there is no way
I'm having a heart attack and PTSD at the same time
I’m surprised how this even works, and I don’t even use a regular eq mount 😵💫
EQ wedge is the meaning of life
I have my harmonic mount balanced... well not 100% but just enough the help me sleep at night
How does it even balance at all? The altitude motor must be hanging on for dear life
You can install a counterweight shaft
Oh okay
My mount can do 15kg unbalanced
Dang alright
And balanced can do 25kg max
Sorry I meant to say “rIgHt aSceNcioN” 🤓
But that’s crazy, they gotta build those to be incredibly strong. You got an SCT on it like in the photo or something else?
#🔭-astrophotography-chat
Phone ap, dslr ap, and visual at the same time
Or just peak laziness, look at your phone with one eye and do visual with the other
I might need more back focus
You need counter weights
Perfectly safe
Oh no...... its going to die!
Because no counterweights 🙄
it puts unnecessary strain on the mount and there is always a risk of you relecing a cluch and your lovely telescope going down hitting the tripod and maybe you. i woudn't risk that
That's not how anything works bud
i love putting strain on my strainwave mount
every time i text here this chat revives, so hi
This counts yeah?
Ya sure why not
That’s insanely cheap for such powerful optics
I genuinely think this piece of clay looks like 4 different things all at once
Nevermind, 5
Put a f*cking counterweight on it
Make me
I hope you get dew on your secondary while imaging
I hope your socks are always slimy
I hope your collimation slips so your nebula or galaxy looks like a turd wiped across the screen.
I hope you always get the worst possible service at any shop or restaurant
, I hope you drop your ota while putting it on your mount
I hope you never have clear sky and bortle 9 conditions for the rest of your life making imaging a worthless task
I hope your ra clutch slips so gravity pulls your ota and mount down.
I hope you get severe IBS every time you sit down
I hope its too hot or too cold for you too sleep
I hope every meal you eat has the taste and consistency of sawdust
I hope every meal you eat is lukewarm
I hope your ceiling leaks everytime it rains
I hope an unexpected rainstorm hits your gear while imaging.
I hope you get sent to North Korea

I hope every sandwich you eat is made with mouldy bread
I hope your dog spits in ur mouth before u go to bed
You're gonna get this thread closed lmao
He started it first
damn...i acc liked this thread
Is it too late to delete the message
you've thrown away the chance to get red nerd, thats for sure
Are you sure that mods saw it
what just happened lol
even if you delete/edit it gets logged so mods can see what youve said
quickly type huge amount of things so that it gets burried lol
Yeah im cooked🥀
ouch
WAIT, WHY ARE YOUR SOCKS GETTING SLIMY

ANYWAY TO CONTINUE OUR STREAK, I hope that your mount is cursed with infinite backlash
I think you cursed the wrong person
Mines bad aswell lol
No i didn't
I hope ur pillows both sides are warm
Its coming up to winter, that would be pleasant
Summers coming tho
Not here
Oh lol ok

This entire interaction was hilarious
Naww what is that
It's the tape that gets on the inside of the cover that bugs me. If it would only have been on the outside then that would have been one thing. But the lunatic folded the tape over INTO the dew shield 😱
Reminder to vote in round 2 of the thread competitions #1369694419963613295 message
Weak, …
Nah how?
Anything but buy a newt
i do that to refractors every single day
W
Based
nah its just plain true
smol camera
Dang bro got his
Bought it on CN and I’ve had it for 3 weeks and no chance to test bc clouds smh
Why?
Well cool
I'm really unsure if physics like this to happen
No way this is real and useful
This mount🥶
actually kind cool ngl
I figured this would count as a cursed setup. An old 60mm Artillery Spotting-Scope with a DIY solar filter fixed to the front of the aperture, made using the film from solar glasses.
The filter structure utilizes a Pringles can, styrofoam on the inside to make the fit tight, a layer of card paper on the front and back of the solar film for rigidity, and a layer of aluminum foil at the front to reflect away any light that isn't hitting the solar film. The corners that stick out let you align with the sun pretty easily, as their shadows disappear when pointed directly at the sun.
Not easy to use, but still kinda fun and cool. Probably won't use it again, for the sake of safety.
yea, mine looks the same. i just gave up with guiding in Dec if you polar align well enough you can get away with no guiding in dec just change dither to "only Ra"
Maybe something is loose. That was what happened in my case
i have a lot of backlash in the worm gear, i tried to get rid of it but never went below 13000ms
Scope made out of chopping board
But check the size of that mount.
Cw on the mount is at its minimum 💀
The cuy could have used the power supply as counterweight. Have you seen the size of that PSU?
Yeah lol
Weak
your mount atleast corrects eventually
Only when I ask it nicely
Hold on, I think I can give you a worse one
This was from last night and somehow I still managed to guide below 0.5" for almost the entire night
