I'm not done yet, but this data is an absolute pleasure to work with. Your noise floor is incredible, and entirely random.

Good data, it was fun to process ๐Ÿ™‚

#

this was shot with a duoband filter, allowing Oiii and Ha through

#

(at least, that's what it appeared to be, when i saw the blue/green and red stars lol)

fathom igloo
#

so how does that work? are there separate stacks like in mono processes?

#

how do you distinguish the Oii and Ha within a color image?

#

does the filter map the specific wavelengths to a color from the get go?

river coyote
#

if you split the RGB you get the Ha in the Red, the Oiii is split between green/blue

#

you can sometimes discard the B and recombine it as R/G/G (similar to HOO) and then go about the processing

#

some like to create a new blue by merging the green and blue channels with some pixel math formulas

#

here are the three channels split and stretched

fathom igloo
#

so is the separating of the wavelengths and designating it to the channels done by the filter itself?

river coyote
#

sort of. Ha 's wavelength is red as it is, so the red pixels pick it up. the Oiii is in blue and green wavelengths, that's why it's in those two. there's RGGB in the bayer matrix so the green gets more signal of the Oiii. since no other wavelengths are passed, that's what you get.

#

the L-Extreme filter is a popular one for this purpose

fathom igloo
#

so this only works because the elements emit those convenient light wavelengths. IF HA emitted pink, for example, would it get picked up by other channels as well?

river coyote
#

yeah, it would spread into other channels (whatever makes pink other than red lol)

#

i have an astronomik UHC filter that does about the same, but it does not cut off at the upper end of the Ha, so the Sii and all the way through infrared get picked up. really blows out stars

#

i double stack a uv/ir cut filter with it to tame it lol.

fathom igloo
#

what does the UV/IR do?

river coyote
#

cuts off the IR spectrum

#

and Ultraviolet

fathom igloo
#

is that not needed when imaging data?

river coyote
#

IR can bloat the stars on my doublet

#

a triplet, i dunno

fathom igloo
#

sorry for all the questions I've never learned about filters

#

let alone mono, I'm on an untracked setup with a stock DSLR

river coyote
#

no problem!

#

i first used a CLS filter on my DSLR, that's what got me into it

fathom igloo
#

hope you don't mind me asking, but what's a CLS filter?

river coyote
#

Here's the wavelengths of light my UHC filter allows through

#

CLS is a City Light Suppression (?) filter. helps with light pollution

fathom igloo
fathom igloo
river coyote
#

yeah, pretty much that's all the CLS does

fathom igloo
#

I'll have to look into that. Also, why are the filters so darn expensive?

river coyote
#

i know what color the elements emit, but not so much their wavelength

#

normally it's just Sii, Ha, and Oiii that's used in mono imaging for narrowband

#

not every emission nebula has a good Sii signal, and some have very little Oiii

fathom igloo
#

such as the arc nebula near andromeda

river coyote
#

yeah, really faint Oiii ๐Ÿ˜„

fathom igloo
river coyote
#

the major ones like the eagle, lagoon, wizard, pacman, heart/soul, etc. they have all three

#

yeah, SHO is mapped with Sii as red, Ha as green, and Oiii as blue

#

a lot of galaxies get done with HaRGB as well

fathom igloo
#

I know they have to be made very precisely, hence the expensive price point

#

but never expected them to be hundreds of dollars!

river coyote
#

i suppose it's the specialized coating required to only allow specific wavelengths of light through

fathom igloo
#

yea it's a bummer

river coyote
#

some have a 7nm pass, they're cheaper. the narrower the pass, the more expensive.

#

3nm for example is like two car payments ๐Ÿ˜…

fathom igloo
#

talking about the CLS

river coyote
#

my clip in wasn't too bad, i think

#

heh, about $130

fathom igloo
#

ah unfortunate indeed

#

I'm 14 with no job so I'm doing all I can to save for a SGP

river coyote
#

SGP?

#

ah nm

fathom igloo
#

yea skyguider pro

river coyote
#

i have one collecting dust ๐Ÿ˜… lots for sale on cloudy night's classified section

fathom igloo
#

my dad needs me to physically check the product over before I buy anything used, which is really limiting what I can get

#

nobody sells astro stuff in GTA because it's so light polluted no one has gear in the first place

river coyote
#

GTA?

fathom igloo
#

Greater Toronto Area

river coyote
#

ah

fathom igloo
#

bortle 9 for miles

river coyote
#

i'm in a bortle 6. i'm trying to budget for a mono camera kit with filter wheel and lrgbsho filters

fathom igloo
#

that white zone is about 100km across

river coyote
#

๐Ÿ˜ญ

fathom igloo
#

it's so sad

#

so I literally have no other option than to buy new

#

here it is scaled

#

so yea no one's selling astro gear near here

river coyote
# river coyote

sorry about spamming your thread @lofty turret ๐Ÿ˜… here's my process of your data

lofty turret
#

I tried to get this colors too on my other pic but it didnt work

#

And how did you kill all the noise

lofty turret
#

next weeek i finally have pix again and then iยดll try this color pallet too

river coyote
lofty turret
#

NoiseX*?

#

i need an Tutorial as soon as i have Pix

river coyote
# lofty turret did u use NoisX?

Yes, I believe so. Then used unsharpmask(?) to sharpen it up a little. Sometimes I don't like that result and just undo it. I don't recall the final steps I did for this.

quick 15 minutes process. Almost everything was done in the new Siril Update except for small tweaks in PS. Thanks for the data!
