Hello,

I've been on the grind recently trying to improve my processing skills, I usually practice by processing shared data here. If there are any tips or advice you have and are willing to share I (and others) would really appreciate.

My processing usually goes like this:
Stack with 3x drizzle
Use siril to crop, bg extract, color correct
Stretch in photoshop using asinh curves
Make a starless version, then use the starless version to tweak the saturation/vibrance
Add stars back
Use astronomy tools action set and other random filters/tweaks for finishing it off

@normal grove Deconvolution, hdr transformation, also consider putting a high pass filter on the starless and merge both layers at whatever opacity think works best but on overlay mode on the starless

Out of curiosity, why are you drizzling 3x? How undersampled are you? You're also increasing your noise when you drizzle, and at 3x that's probably quite the increase in noise. Generally, I limit mine to 2x.

If you're drizzling you should be undersampled, dithering, and have lots of data. 😁

What camera and scope (and reducer if you're using one)?

Dithering usually needs a guide camera and scope. Doesn't have to be anything fancy at all, even a small one will do (assuming your mount supports it).

Ok. You are actually wildly undersampled. πŸ˜‚ The a7sIII has extremely large pixels, at 8.4 microns. You're imaging at ~6.47" per pixel. The theoretical limit for the scope is about 1.9" per pixel. So, assuming you have a lot of data (to compensate for the increase in noise) 3x drizzle could make sense. Personally, I'd still stick with 2x.

I used this website to calculate:

@patent lily Your scope and your camera/reducer are separate resolutions. Let's take this into a separate discussion, maybe not on Nate's question. πŸ˜‚
