The BAT man has an atik camera, maybe he can help you
thanks!
I use an Atik 460ex CCD mono camera and find it to be a very good performer. I don't think you would go wrong with the 490ex mono especially at that reduced cost. Of course you would need a filter wheel and filters also. Here is a recent result from my own Atik 460ex.
Do CCD camera require longer exposure than cmos for noise reasons or am I mis-remembering stuff? Love that image btw
Not so you would notice but that said the latest cmos camera's designed for astro use have a higher QE and no amp glow. Quite a few cmos camera's have amp glow but CCD camera's don't suffer from this. However, cmos technology is fast advancing and superseding the CCD, this is why CCD prices are dropping as they fall out of use. Another CCD camera user here on the server is Pam W who produces excellent results. Anyway, have a look at the Atik website for camera specs and in my opinion, 40% or so off the original new cost of around £2100 has got to be a good deal. Personal choice in the end though.
I wouldnt go for the 460ex at that price honestly
seeing as you can get a new 533mm for a similar price, that has a similar size sensor but is a modern CMOS.So it has much less read noise and a higher QE
I got him to the equivalent of £500 so I'm happy to say I'm getting an atik camera in the mail!
