#What is the maximum focal length for the AZ-GTI
56 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
an alt-az platform is not a good choice for long exposure astrophotography which I assume is what you want to do. other than that there's no limit to focal lengths with mounts, it depends on weight and if you can balance it properly.
The az-gti can be converted to an equatorial mount via firmware upgrade. I have successfully used a C5 on it with guiding.
i.e. approx 900mm FL
neat
what is an equatorial mount, and how can i also convert it? is it worth buying the AZ-GTI or should i buy smt else
An equatorial mount is a mount for instruments that compensates for Earth's rotation by having one rotational axis, the polar axis, parallel to the Earth's axis of rotation. This type of mount is used for astronomical telescopes and cameras. The advantage of an equatorial mount lies in its ability to allow the instrument attached to it to stay f...
I use the az-gti for focal lengths up to 200mm regularly and it works great for that. You convert the mount by flashing an alternative firmware provided by Skywatcher and you would need some sort of wedge that allows you to point one axis to Polaris.
AZ-GTi is good, but if you're looking at DSLR astrophotography with a lens, buy a Sky-watcher star adventurer GTi, or a Sky-watcher Star adventurer pro pack if you're on a budget.
For telescopic beginner AP setups:
- Go-to GEM mount:- AVX, CEM26, GEM28, CEM40, EQ6-r pro, HEQ5 etc.
- Non-Go-to ultra budgety stuff:- EQ5, CG-5
- Unlimited budget:- Planewave pw2000

For scopes:-
DSO:-
Budget:- 6"-8" newt
Quality:- 80mm Apo refractor
Planetary:-
5"-8" SCT/MAKS's. E.g:- Orion mak90/orion mak120
fwiw I've an iOptron CEM26 and it's amazing for wide-field (250mm) deep-sky and works well for a 6" f/4 newt too. I wouldn't go more/heavier than that telescope though.
yea i have been saving up birthday money since i was 9 i think i can buy this.
yeee
pls give me tips on how to save 3,000,000$ birthday money
just cuiros
dude srsly-
thats it!?!?!?
damn ill have some left over to buy a nice car to put it in
and maybe even a observatory

and i might even have some left to buy some astrobiscuit merch
just save up bro its not that hard
dont waste it on chocolates like i did before i was 9
if i had not done that i could have gotten 2 of them maybe
wow nice
and then i could put them on top of each other for maxium zoooooom
RIP the mount
nah ill stack the mount also
let mount be x
let the number of mount be 2
therefore, 2x
hence good
and if one of them is 3mil
then there are 2
therefore 2 x 3,000,000
= 1 x 1,500,000
= 150,000
since the 1 from the "1"x1.5m cancels out with the 1 from "1",500,000
therefore 2 of them cost me 150k
@hearty pumice anything that is cheaper these about $2000 out of my budget
jk
tho maybe smt around 400 bucks?
preferably GOTO
you can't get goto for 400 bucks
only mount or telescope?
EQ3-2 exists but I woudn't recommend it to a beginner
i am doing just dso rn
why so?
also heard about dark frame optics are they good, is it worth it
I just wanted a mount but should i try and up my budget and buy both? or just buy a mount, if i do just buy a mount i would like it to have good payload capacity
so that i can add a scope later
well its not good unless you tune it, for which you need tunning skills
Not when you're just getting into the hobby
used EQ5 is ok if you can buy it in your budget
i dont mind learning a new skill
well ok then, go for a used EQ5. Ryan can help you with tuning it.
