This is more of a visual question, but does anyone have experience using Oiii or UHC filters for visual astronomy, particularly when viewing nebulae? How was your experience and what brand did you use?

I don't think Oiii (narrowband) will work for visual at all

In fact, the two OIII lines are the "main" lines for visual filtering

#

H-beta to a much lesser degree.

#

The only reason H-alpha doesn't work is because our rods cannot see it. Otherwise, it'd be great for visual

#

That's one of the reasons why people run night vision, because it unlocks H-alpha

How narrow

The narrowest you can go while capturing both lines

#

Single line doesn't work as well, looking at you Baader visual OIII.

#

With H-beta I think the filters are narrower, but those are for specific objects

#

Personal preferences of course play a role.

I'm hoping to get to see one in person before taking the plunge on my own filter

I recently bought a UHC filter I am not very experienced but I could see m57 shape decently well with dark adapted vision

#

Gives an edge only when dark adapted

yep, im in a bortle 9 but with my 8" f/5 i could clearly see the ring sort of blurred because of course it was too faint, but without any filters

I can see Ring pretty easily without a filter... Once I can actually find it
