#Phone Astrophotography
1 messages ยท Page 8 of 1
I'm not sure, I've never owned an iPhone
Ah yes I need to update the docs a bitโฆ But basically it makes the phone like a DSLR in manual with a control over the number of images to stack.
โFocusโ is to manually set the focusโฆ Autofocus usually doesnโt work for astro images
โNumber of exposuresโ is how many images will be aligned and stacked.
โExposure timeโฆโ is shutter speed.
โISOโ is just camera ISO.
Example settings for iPhone13 widefield Milky Way shot would be: 50 exposures, exposure time 10s, ISO 3000.
If using with a scope exposure time will depend on whether you are tracked/untracked. e.g. 0.5seconds for my main setup untracked.
Final point would be zoom (by pinching) to crop out trees, eyepiece circle, etc as this might throw off the alignment. I tend to take a single test shot then up the number of exposures
anything on the bottom half of the settinsg such as white balance exposure gain and pixel binning also alignment function
not soo sure what most of these words mean in this sense haha
You can leave them all at the default settings.
If thereโs an issue with alignment, white balance, brightness etc they can be adjusted
okay i will try it tonight hopefully its clear thanks for the help
Just downloaded and looks sick so far! Iโll try it out next time I get out the scope ๐ค
Only iPhone?
yes
only for iphone currently
@elder birch what do the the alignment function and pixel binning do in advanced settings?
iโve decided iโm not going out tonight just went to turn off the garden lights and there was 18 BIG spiders not 2 meters away from my hammock iโm not doing that
if i was to do 50 exposures for 10s exposure time would that be 8 and a half mins
50sx10=500s=8m 20s so yes
after editing i got this itโs just my first go i didnโt set it up on a tripod just layed it down in a hammock but a really cool app iโve never seen them like this through my phone next time iโll try and do it more proper
it looks much better on my phone before sending it through discord for some reason
much much cooler on my side
can see colours much better
discord compresses files
yeah
Haha yes, more of a tripod situation
Alignment function increases the accuracy but the trade off is slightly longer processing.
Pixel binning adds 4 pixels together to brighten the image but reduces the resolution by 1/4. Mainly useful for dim targets especially if shooting untracked
Sorry yes just at the minute. Eventually planning and android version
my image looks nice but the focus was off i had it on ,68 but couldnt check cos i had the phone face down and it was too tedious to do it before i start the image due to the low fps haha waht focus should i have considering it was a bit off
I usually set it first by setting exposure to 0.1s and ISO near the max then zoom in on a big star. After this set the other settings. The app remembers focus between shots.
Focus is a bit fiddly to be honest, Iโm planning to make an autofocus later this year (this iPhone PDAF one doesnโt work well for astro images)
nice i love to hear that you plan on making it better and better itโs the best app i have found so far iโve never been able to catch a good photo of the moon due to not having enough zoom you think i could catch one tonight with the app ? seeing as it has better zoom
Without a scope or lens itโs still not great as the optical zoom is the limiting factor
Reprocessing my last M-16 made last year.

DAMN BRO
Wooow
How do you get such long exposures without getting pure bright light stuff?
Filters or calibration frames maybe
hm
Oh, cool
You have to adjust your focus @fickle tree
You have to adjust it to manual
You probably currently have it on infinity
Or if you hold your phone above the eyepiece then you should better buy a cheap phone adapter
You can probably find a pretty cheap one...I bought one from TEMU and it does that job
I was able to shoot this photo with my phone...108MP, ULTRA HD
Keep in mind thats literally 1 shot, its not processed nor even stacked
And where i live there is a ton of light pollution
But yeah i had to focus better the scope
12s is not long exposure... Long exposure is 120s, 180s, 300s...
And I use CLS
Mine neither...what telescope do you use ? I use a Heritage 130p
Me too ๐
I am bortle 8
You may also have to better focus your phone camera...do you have an android ?? If so, you probably have pro mode in the native camera app of your phone...go to F (or focus) and change the value to M (or Manual)
Also mind changing the ratio
Do you see the yellow one saying 3:4 ??? You can change that
This is a photo of mine using 9:16...it's not good
You have to find YOUR sweet spot...
i have a skywatcher 130/900 with an eq1 mount ๐ญ ๐
They are pretty much the same
I was one click before buying your scope
But the guys in the server prevented me ...and I'm so glad I did so
why?
It has a spherical mirror
Not necessarily...but for this budget...it's super stable and easy to use...I assume you probably have a hard time with the eq mount ๐
I can't do like 10 seconds 1600 iso without pure bright filterless
but alright
of course i do
its also a pain in the ass to carry around
Oh yes that is something too
Apart from this...still...it's a very decent Telescope
So if you try your best you can probably get a very good photo out of it
Experiment
if i have to switch i dont want to downgrade, i would probably get a dobson of the same quality. probably like yours
If your budget is a bit higher you could probably buy a better version of my Telescope...150p
Which is even better
yeah but i want to play around with my current one before changing, i dont want to get a telescope and use it like once in a blue moon
The only "major problem with deez dobs is that they have a helical focuser which doesn't support weight and they are a bit unreliable
I don't think you have to change...at least for me...unless you have the telescope for some time now and you want to get something better...
It's not that bad of a scope whatsoever...but you definitely know that better than me
@fickle tree I hope you achieve your goal! Astrophotography is a pain in the ass...but once you get to know it.. it's amazing
You need to experiment
thanks! i just started and im ready to learn
That's the spirit of a nerd! ๐๐๐
๐คฃ
This is a video of Jupiter I captured...it took me 1 hour experimenting with the settings
do dobsons have a polar aligment? because if they do you can take 1 minute footages and process them
It looks great ngl
I'll try it when I get home
It's pretty cool...but I made a grave mistake...I shot it in 4k30fps ...plz don't make that mistake too...choose 1080p 60fps...it's much much better
Now it looks fine...but when stacking...you will need ages
fair
That's the reason you don't shoot 8k, 4k and stuff
My telescope is f8 too. And I only take pictures at the zenith
that makes sense cool
That's what Jupiter looked like too ๐๐
You have to choose 1080p
better than a blob
Yeah...but the problem with your photo is that there are no colours
m16 without DBE
sheesh
I processed it in black and white
og video had colour
Aaaah
Ok
But again...choose the highest FPS possible and 1080p
I learned this today
cool
From a video
And...in order to shoot more frames, you can stop the video, track it and then when the entire object is visible start recording again
This way you can take videos of 3 minutes or even more
@chilly vessel https://youtu.be/MnvMdG-cyrg?feature=shared
In this video, we go over imaging planets with a Dobsonian Telescope and a Cell Phone. I used a Samsung Galaxy S9 to capture Jupiter and Saturn, but also had a few other images running.
DISCLAIMER I used my action camera to record because my DSLR was busy with something else (which you'll see). Because of this, I learned that my action ...
This dude is amazing
Yep
No they don't...
Unfortunately
11 hours, wtf
Just a quick exposure while wlaking my dogs
Redmi note 12 pro
30sec exposure
6400iso
Edited in lightroom
somehow with an Iphone 8 and 8" dob
anyone know why my images are coming out really bright on my phone now that im taking them from a more direct angle i was taking photos straight up and it was fine but when i tried to prop it up and tilt it more towards an angle rather than right up it was really bright and not much was showing up do i need to lower or higher the iso? is it due to light pollution any advice os helpful
Exposure
Ss
Iso
Galre
Glare
Moonlight
Never thought of this before actually but does it still work when manually focusing ?
I have the same issue as @timber vector Except it happens when pointing straight up too ๐ญ
Omg I never thought of this before either!
Ok but before I found this discord and I was using just night mode.... That was my photos .....
But it isn't ๐
It's ๐ฎ
Naaaah the quality is good...it could be better but compared to my night mode it's much better
You should probably use the pro mode of your native camera app
Or the Pro Cam X Lite app
Which is also pretty good
Is this an app?
It's a Samsung built in app
This was using a 10 minute exposure time using expert raw in Australia in a bortle 1 (yes I was extremely jealous of their bortle level)
@fiery rover it's built into only ultra phones afaik
10 minute exposure???? How is this possible with no star trailing?
Yeah
... unfortunately I can't download it ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
Do you have a telescope with a motor drive ??? This image is amazing
I'm not entirely sure, one thing I noticed is that the photo freezes or something when it takes, I saw a plane fly directly over top yet it didn't show up on my screen
No, I have a celestron omni az 102 but that photo was pure phone
My brain is not braining
๐
What phone do you have?
Note 20 ultra
How is this pure phone
I set it down on a bench, got it on 10 minute timer and a 10 second delay and pressed GO and then left it
This is what I get with my phone
Is this pure phone?
This is the best result I can get out of my phone itself...through my telescope it's pretty good
This is a video of Jupiter on a pretty bad day
With digital zoom
what phone can zoom like that
Yes
๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ
And then they say that iPhones have the best cameras
This was thru my telescope (I don't have a powerful telescope like you guys ๐ญ)
Showcase of 100x zoom
Is this proven ?
Dude you probably don't even need a DSLR or a dedicated camera...just buy a better Telescope and you will destroy everyone ๐๐๐
100x zoom bad
Use optical
So if I do 50x zoom I'd prob have a clearer photo?
Of course
Just use a telescope instead of a lens for high focal length stuff
More res and easy to hold
No
Your phone is insane
Digital zoom, it wouldn't show anything
?
Resolution
No you can't do that cuz I tried lol
Rayleigh limit
I can see Saturn rings with 65
Rayleigh limit
Guys I actually have a question
Idk...he doesn't have to use 100x... he can use less
I just got the celestron NexYZ phone mount... What do I do if my phone is too heavy, it bends down when I mount it due to weight
I tried but it still seems to bend slightly
I have that same problem too...try screwing the eyepiece better ??
I'll see tonight if it's possible to tighten more
Be careful not to tighten too much
If ur referring to the photo I sent it's thru my telescope.... With a 5mm lens and my phone mounted to the lens.....
Other option is I have a rubber band holding my phone down lolol
Aaaah...now it makes sense
๐
You don't read photo text do you, I legit said that lol
Another question for you guys
This is what I put on my Telescope
๐๐๐๐
This is 260x magnification
This is why it bends
Should I get moon and star filters before getting a adaptor for my Sony a6000 camera (meaning I'd be able to attach it to my telescope?)
No!!!
Don't do that
Unless you have money to spare
Don't buy any filter
Why?
Do you live somewhere with a lot of light pollution @cobalt brook ?
If yes
But a light pollution filter
Yeah sorta , London Ontario
You could buy a UHC filter...that makes everything green
Or red
But then with editing...you can get rid of that
NOTE: The telescope is not included Description The set includes a Moon and Skyglow Filter, a CPL Filter and 5 Color Filters(Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue). Moon and Skyglow Filter It cuts down glare and brings out much more surface detail and gives you better contrast. CPL Filter It filters o...
Or you can buy a NEBULA filter
It's either this or I buy a mount for my wife's camera
Colour filters are only for astrophotography
Well then...it's up to you ๐๐๐
But moon filters are pretty useless
I warn you
They are not what they advertise
Hmmm
Colour filters are good only if they are of good quality
Ok
Also

With colour filters you will see everything red, green, blue etc
So I should get those instead
Give me a minute
If you have a DSLR camera then these are a much better choice for me
They are also pretty cheap
I think that if you have a good DSLR camera these are your best bet...
My wife has a Sony a6000
But my telescope isn't the best.....
But it still supports 2" and 1.25" adapters
I'm new to this whole thing so right now it's kinda low
Your wife's camera is quite heavy
Uh, mainly I love planets but , I've been told with my telescope and the right camera stuff is be able to get Orion's nebula which.... Would be sick!
If you don't have a good counterweight you won't be able to balance the telescope
I'd love to eventually get into deepsky, idk what widefield is or whatever
My budget probably isn't high enough for a planetary camera yet
So with my wife's camera and my telescope it wouldn't work to get better planet photos and milkeyway photos ?
This one is pretty cheap
I feel like I'm setting my expectations too high, meaning I'd love to one day take dso photos but I doubt that will come to pass
Your first goal is to probably save some money and then buy a new Telescope probably of 150 aperture or more
How much we talking? I've been told my first goal should be to save up for a better mount first
My questions never get answers there
@wind spoke he could buy a new telescope with this money
A 150p virtuoso
There is the 150p explorer
At the same price
With mount
the biggest problem i face is, i love looking up and seeing things myself, but then sharing it with my friends and family sucks because its hard to share
๐๐๐
So i feel like, getting more into astrophotography would be the best solution and keeping my current telescope for viewing purposes
A very basic ap setup costs around 800-1000 dollars
You have to buy a telescope that's good both in visual and astrophotography that doesn't break the bank
What's your budget @cobalt brook ?
I have a full time job but I have bills, however I can save up for a while ....
I know that doesn't answer your question
But like, shouldn't I be getting a telescope mount before thinking about getting a new telescope?
I just got this telescope this year, Feb, on my birthday
Look...if you want to take pictures of dso...a cheap 102 refractor doesn't do the job
Futz
That's a problem
You probably need to sell this Telescope if you really want to upgrade
Because a new tripod ain't gonna do sh***
You will still be getting these results that you don't like
So
Tell me
Do you want me to propose Telescopes and you say yes or no
I'm just getting mixed feeling here
Learntostargaze on yt ranks the celestron omni az 102 as dso, moon, and planets ?
Look
I don't want to make you feel bad
But...YouTubers don't always tell the truth...now you ask...why should I tell you the truth...well...I can't really answer that question
Also
Because a YouTuber says something is good
Doesn't mean it's good
Astrobiscuit says that Celestron Powerseeker 70az is good...while its trash
Everything is relative
It's complicated
I fell on the same trap as you
And the guys here in this server changed my mind
๐ฅน
And I got an amazing telescope
I swear
Without this server I would have a trash telescope
Ooof
I have to catch my breath
๐๐๐
What I'm trying to tell you is
I was in the exact same situation you are 3 months ago
I did A LOT of research
And the help of the guys in the server
I made my choice by MYSELF
No youtuber can tell you what to buy
You have to make sure that you buy the best telescope for yourself
It's up to you
Okey
I think that was quite inspiring
๐
So
So....
First things first
Find out what telescope my neighbor owns that he never uses
Maybe i can get a good one for cheap
Well
That's not a bad idea
You could look for a used one
Many people on this server will tell you thay
But in case you want a new one
I need at least an approximate budget
Deal?
750-1000 (it'll take some time to get there tho)
You sure?
No ๐ญ
Hmmmm
That's neither bad or good
It's reassurance
In order to proceed
Ok go with 750-1000 just for now
Okies
Give me a minute
So
For the telescope
Skywatcher Evostar 72D
Are you with me
?
So telescope this one
Link?
Here you go
Is that a carry case ?
No...this is just the tube
Tripod
This is a tripod used for very heavy telescopes
Chunky telescopes
No it comes with a aluminum case
This is better
It comes with a goto
๐
You tell it where to ain
Aim
This one is goto?
Oh yes
๐
This is your setup
More expensive
๐
GTI?
Tbf I could be saving up too I just have house payments and crap lol
Yeah you are not that lucky...BUT if you believe it l...you can achieve it
Bets country in the world
I live in Greece
Damn
Naah
It's really bad
๐๐๐
For vacation? It's amazing
For living
It's amazing...but for living it's horrible
๐
Every year I see a lot of Finnish people visiting Greece
Generally from Scandinavia
Norwegian
You guys love Mediterranean
๐
What's this for?
This says it isn't for heavier telescopes ?
It also works for dso
This isn't heavy
The 72d
It's pretty small
But you will also need to buy Barlows and stuff
What makes it different from your current telescope is the quality
It doesn't have colour aberration
Do you know Canadian links? Lol
Also it has better lenses and it's especially good for dso
I will search...but generally
If you order it from the US it's cheaper
?
It will go above the budget then
How about this
I'll make a "should I buy" chat
Send the links in there please and thank you?
That's a good idea
You can ask some top gurus
Like Gingercatmeow
He is extremely helpful
But I suggest you keep the 72d...it's really really good @cobalt brook
He's helped me before actually
Done
the astro mode takes subs and stacks them
if you go to the details of the raw image you will see the details for an individual shot which includes how long each of the subs were
yeah
so that milky way image is 10.5 second subs
which is why theres no star trailing
Fair, so is that how it works all the time?
Takes subs and what's why for example I didn't see the plane in my first photo I ever took using expert raw?
Can you explain why I have the weird camera lenses flair thing?
I've never had that happen before
@fiery rover do you mind sending the links to that set up in that chat ?
No problem
I will try finding them Canadian links too
Don't worry about that
I think it takes multiple exposures and stacks them, not an actual 10 minute exposure. I may be wrong though
I took this from bortle 5 with the samsung astrophotography mode for Expert Raw
Wtf how?
those damn garden lights on the left
no
uranus-c
Find the perfect high powered pellet gun from the leading expert online retailer, Airgun Depot, offering low prices and a free shipping offer too!
theyre my own garden lights theres just spiders guarding the off switch hahah
theres also a massive 1850s street light in the allyway behind my garden so i might have to invest
Pop it
might have too
Anyone have an answer to this?
I think its because of the tiny sensor
Sensor......
The sensor is just the thing behind the lens that the light hits and with it being a phone camera its tiny so its prone to more of those weird artifacts
Enough, I was just blown away that I was able to get that with my phone alone
Fair enough*
These tiny phone cameras tend to be more sensitive to light in the middle of the image, and since you were in australia and bortle 1 with the milky way core presumably directly overhead, that would've been a lot brighter than the surrounding sky amplifying thos effect
Also hate to be that guy but i think it was out of focus aswell ๐ญ
Still a great image though
Yes, that is correct, it was directly above and I didn't even realize because I don't know the night sky enough yet
Oh it probably was out of focus, I still don't know what I'm doing, I was using expert raw mode on my note 20 ultra and that's how I got that
This second image is a very similar one, taken in bortle 5 looking straight up but at the cygnus region of the milky way because i live too far north to even see the core ๐ข
You can see there is a subtle band of a redish/purpleish hue going around, less noticeable because i heavily edited it, buf its the same phenomenon as in your photo
And the noticeable brightness increase in the center, that bright vibrant blue bit right in the middle is not part of the milky way just the phone being more sensitive to light falling on the center of the sensor
What flair thing?
i think he means the colour banding around the edges of the image
Yes this ^
amp glow?
maybe light leaking idk
Well, they may say that, but I don't think they're reffering to/comparing Samsung's zoom/telephoto cameras! Obv iPhones are nowhere near the level of Samsung in zoom clarity.
Bro- you're putting that on the Heritage 130p... you don't know how much courage you just gave me..
I must say thank you.
But that's a barlow, an eyepiece and what's the 3rd thing?
Gingercatmeow suggested me a crazy ฯฮฑฯฮญฮฝฯฮฑ
So
I have a 3x Barlow
And a 2x barlow
Aah yes and you removed the lens and just used the plastic as a spacer-
I take the 2x Barlow's lens off...and I put it between the 3x barlow and the eyepiece
And it multiplies the magnification
I see, alr, now you literally made me go purchase a heavy barlow with no fear no more.
Thank Mr Gingercatmeow
Thank you dear *@*Gingercatmeow
Ah and I see, is 260x easy to handle on your scope?
It is the maximum
Right
Sorry I meant- like- moving the dob around and finding things- if its hard that way-
It's not
I have masterfully collimated my red dot and I have NO problem
extending barlows for world peace
It took me 4 hours
๐๐๐
And how's the image through your ฯฮฑฮฝฯฮญฮฝฯฮฑ; Sharp?
But at the end
It's amazing
I've not taken the time and I barely have my target in my pov with my 25mm... I should be ashamed.
Yes show!
I am uploading a video
It's uploading
I'm really curious to see, lookin to buy a 3x for myself, so
Oh w o w.
Oh wow.. well if it does the job, which it seems to indeed do, that's amazing.. what phone do you have, if I may ask?
I have a cheap Redmi Note 10 Pro
It costs 200 euros
But has a pretty good camera
This is 4k 30fps video
Jupiter Airlines ๐๏ธ
Yup I know it, I used to have that too, awesome, asked to see the weight of the phone, was wondering about how the focuser would handle it- which seems to be handling it.. pretty good.. yes?
Oh it's a pain in the ass
You got me really excited because I was really concerned about the helical focuser on my Heritage 150P, now you've completely changed my mind ๐ฎ
Ah!
Well...it's not that bad
Yup
Because I put all that stuff on the focuser...it BENDS
And the phone bends with it
Oh wow, the videos you sent me are with it bending?
So I have to adjust it while it is on the telescope
Otherwise it won't work
It's crazy dude
๐๐๐
When I managed to get this video I felt like a professional astrophotographer
๐๐
I haven't seen DSO yet
Though
I have an app...called astrohopper
Which does the job for me...but I recently found out I used it wrong !!!!
Well, it's not that that that much far away from proffesional, that's some nice beggining planetary astrophotography! With a few free programs on your PC like PIPP and Registax, you can turn that video into a nice sharp image with loads of more detail possibly, I imagine!
To help you find things, like Stellarium?
I tried...but for some reason the image didn't appear in Autostakkert
I will have to try again
Yeah.. thankfully for me it's not as bad where I live ||Crete|| atleast for now, but still, clouds are starting to become a thing again :c
This is my last resource!!! Astrohopper works like StarSense which is super easy
Yo... what's your bortle ?
Mine is 9
๐
You don't happen to be in any of the more dangerous areas eh? Everything's safe where you're at?
Guess where I live ๐๐
I don't really have to.. ๐ฅฒ rip Athen's light pollution.
In the biggest city here where I happen to live in, it's the lp level of a big village, 6-5, I'm really lucky-
๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
The thing is that the second biggest telescope in the country is just an hour and 30 mins away from me ๐
Ahaha.. yup, I've got lots of locations to go to, so do you guys, but you have to travel more unfortunately..
That's freaking awesome
I don't know why they built the Observatory of Athens in Pnyka
It's a scary ride, driving up 2km high but it's worth it!
What bortle is it there?
100
๐
I went there to see the Supermoon
It was horrible
Pnyka is a small mountain that receives AAAAAALL the light pollution of Athens
It's far better observing from my terrace
It's kind of the same here, at the nearby observatory that I mentioned, it overlooks Herakleion with no mountain blocking anything, although it's still Bortle 3 I guess, and quite a sight at night, to be seeing the whole city from up there.
Bortle 3
That's insane
Wait do they actually have a huge scope with so much potential like that just being filled with lp, that's sad..
I have visited the telescope
It's an ENORMOUS apochromatic refractor
Yup! It was awesome, I went to a Bortle 2 location on my holidays.. it was fantastic :0
It's crazy good
Oooh it's a refractor eh?
It's handmade !!!
The one here is a 50 inch RC scope iirc.
Oooooh RC
Some type of newtonian hybrid, yes!
Not sure honestly.. as of right now I still only know the most basic 3 designs ๐
But- it's very similar to a newtonian- so keep that in mind
Newtonians are in my heart!!!
Did you look through that beast? ๐
Planets through that must indeed be incredible-
Was it like the good zoomed in astro-images of it?
That's mind blowing
I can't find any information about the telescope
Oh my god it's indeed late- I must've woken you up a bit- sorry about that ๐ thanks for all the info!
Yeah...it's a little bit late
๐๐
Do you happen to be observing rn?
I only found that it was made in 1896!!!
No...I tried
Wowie, I think that was about the same time as the one we have here!
But even Saturn looked HORRIBLE
Rip-
Tonight?
Oh yeah I bet the conditions are horrible right now, Daniel is enjoying himself!
With what mag?
There was something going on in the atmosphere
Some kind of turbulence
It also looked not that bright
Oh yes
Wow-
Mat doesn't mean anything
Mag
ฮฮฑฮปฯ ฮฝฯฯฯฮฑฮฑ ๐๐ป thanks for everythin, clear skies!
atmospheric refraction
FINALLY
THAT STUPID STORM HAD BEEN OBSERVED
trust me its there
im not going insane

Ye if you squint a bit you can see
Lucky you, I can't even see Jupiter with my equipment
What do you mean? Your telescope should show jupiter
I can see it too ๐คฃ
Did you zoom with your phone ?
This was my jupiter with my phone
Sure
I ripped the lens off this black barlow. So I basically extended the Celestron barlow. But it's very dark, I believe it's more than 3x magnification
yep
I didn't do anything very different. I just extended the barlow and recorded the video without noise reduction
How big is your telescope if youโre able to use so much magnifaction and still get that much light????
Just 4 inches
REALLY?!?
I get only about 3 or 4x
What eyepiece?
6mm 68 degree svbony
Dang Alr
Iโve got a 2x Barlow and a 9mm
Thatโs it ๐
But mine is 4 inches too
and itโs still not anywhere near that on max mag
You need more magnification. With just 2x and 10mm you will not get good details
iphone SE, i forgot how long exposure and how many, but this was in bortle 4 with astroshader app. very surprising for me at least because my camera app doesnโt support long exposures
noise blends in with the stars
How?
Yeah you should be able to see jupiter
Why does Deepskycamera not save my pictures
widefeild settup
Dude DM me plz ๐๐๐...HOW DO YOU TAKE THESE PHOTOS???? THAT'S INSANE
I have a 260x magnification and I can't see Saturn so big...I did the same thing you did..I ripped the lens off a 2x barlow and I put it between me 3x barlow and my 10mm eyepiece but still I can't see Saturn from this close
Plz DM...I really need to know how you do this @iron bear
That's definitely not just 4x magnification...this is like 6x ๐๐...the further the eyepiece from the Barlow the bigger the magnification
no?
barlows focus to a point, just like frac lenses, if you pull the eypiece out, your gonna need more inward focus
Whatever dude...have you tried it at least? I do...it does work...you can ask Gingercatmeow too...he is the GOAT
yeah dude......................................i never tried it......................i do dsos..............
im gonna try it actually
Then keep the opinion for yourself
It does work
opinions and facts arent the same
can you unfocus your eyes?
It's not a fact coz it's not true ๐๐๐
Yes
what do you think moving the objective lens more foward does to a focal point
I'm a superhuman
Increase the focus ?
Probably
wait thats microscope stuff
Yes
this has a similar effect to eyepieces and barlows
You see the mirror
secondary spider and collimation
In theory yes...but in practice no...I swear it works...I didn't believe it myself at first...but it does work
Spider?
spider veins, like a spiders legs
Aaaah ...you mean like...I understand
๐
The three things
i dont see how racking an eyepiece outwards on a barlow has any effect on FOV
What you basically do is use the empty Barlow as an extension tube
And somehow it works
but then, you need to rack your focuser inwards to get focus?
No...outwards
what?
dude your pushing the eyepiece outwards, why need more outwards focus?
That's what I do every time ๐๐๐
It works
Don't ask a lot of questions
๐
I have no idea
I just tried it
outwards, meaning farther from ota?
i just got like my favourite photo with just my normal iphone camera
looks much better on my phone pre edit and not compressed by discord obviously now imagine that tree wasnโt there
@edgy talon might have to get a chainsaw not a pellet gun
A 50 cal
Just shoot the trees in hapf
donโt think theyโre as accesible in the uk than what they are in the us
๐๐
too bad
might just punch in to death like minecraft
should I buy s21 fe or mi 11 ultra?
Dslr
dslr
dslr
also you can use a dslr without a telescope as a dslr
@iron bear plz send accept my friend request...I want you to teach me how you take such amazing photographs ๐๐๐...it's insane
D S L R
cheesecake.
Dslr
HMM
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Understood
what dslr should I buy for planetary photography?
under 500$
I also hate street lights
Uranus-C
the imx585 one?
Dslr doest work for planetary. A cellphone will do 1000% better images in this case
I wouldn't buy a DSLR. 585 from playerone is so cheap and is so much better... Dslr is outdated
@steady cedar tested with cell phone vs DSLR on Lunars and the difference is big
is that so
I think image proccesing by the ai in phone is making the difference
maybe
cuz i dont know this deep knowlegde
For planetary image, phone will be much better. Most because the fps and resolution of the video is larger
But I wouldn't buy a cell phone as expensive as the s23 ultra. Firstly, its sensor has a ridiculously small pixel size due to its 200 megapixels. Get a cell phone with the IMX 766 (Same sensor that my cell phone has)
yes
or should i just buy a dedicated astrocam
dedicated astro cam
buy a dedicated. The 585 one
hmm thanks guys
no, the difference comes from the very large pixel size and the low bitrate, which makes the images terrible
Maybe a newer mirrorless camera will do a good job, for planetary purposes, but a dedicated one is preferable, like the IMX585 sensor
Also, planetary astrophotography the key is sensitivity and FPS, more important the FPS in my opinion
I personally recommend the Player One Uranus-C Pro USB3.0 color Camera, which is cooled, will have less noise, will be able to do solar astrophotography with the appropriate equipment, and you can even try doing DSO
heres dso's and some planetary with the uranus-c https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GfqdRcWbjt4oiTxGxgyofD4lMminW0tu?usp=sharing
thanks
thanks alot
hi everyone, what do you think about my andromeda? it was shot by the main sensor of my s21fe and then cropped
ISO:800
f/1.8
20s
5,4 mm
total exposure: 1h
get more
anyway when stacking dark and bias everything is fine but when flats are added this is the results, i tried different exp and iso on flats but nothing changed, i used DSS for stacking
i do not think it can get much more better than this but i will try
i got 3h of data but only 1h was usable
did you stretch?
Looks prety good
Ask in #๐ค-ask-a-nerd
ok
did you stretch the image
this is already stretched
andromeda, jupiter and the seven sisters in 1 image from my iphone
shoot in raw
Your stars have black disc's around them
yeah ik but idk what shoot in raw means or how i do it
๐
hows that funny im new too this well done mate u know what shooting in raw means instead of putting a skull emoji maybe help or just be quiet
like well done u know something i dont when ive been doing this about a week on my phone ๐
my brother in christ.
you have google. use that instead of getting angry at others
why are u puttign a skull emoji tho what do u gain at laughing at someone ๐
whats wrong with wanting to hear an answer from an actual human
then i can ask questions and get a more in depth answer
ur weird bro we get it u know what ur doign dont need to be an ass to someone who dosent
whos "we"
he wasnt laughing at you, and it wasnt directed towards you
someones in a very salty mood
im in a fine mood lol
ok lol sure he was
thats why he replied to me after
but stil, his point stands.
just google it
not everyone would know how to shoot raw ona phone
and my point stands whats wrong with wanting to hear an answer from an actual human
then i can ask questions and get a more in depth answer
u think he would put a skull emoji if he didnt know
it was just unnecessary
i cant shoot in raw cos i have the standard iphone 13 not pro version is there a good app i can use
Get Craigslist and buy a dslr
a specific kind brand or model or just any that are DSLR
Get a ZWO ASI120MC with the CS lens
Then you can do planets with a telesfope
You need a laptop tho
yeah i cant do all of that
might just get binoculars and a phone mount and use third party apps
im on a budget
There may be an app that can help you but I don't know iPhone so I can't personally help
yeah thereโs some third party apps but i doubt they have the 10 second night mode

Try that maybe?
haz arenโt you using astroshader already
Are there any android apps for this kinda thing btw? I've never really looked it up and wondered if anyone else has suggestions?
Deepskycamera
yes but i wanted one for quick photos
like the actual iphone camera
i just use the stock camera app
it canโt do much but it seems like it gives the clearest images
at least for planets
problem is i have the standard iphone 13 so i dont have more then 3x zoom
iโd just stick with astroshader then, you could possibly get some nice pictures with an iphone 13 camera. My iphones camera is probably worse and iโm getting good results just aiming straight up
anyone have advice for shooting andromeda with my phone i can take a wide angle and clearly see itโs andromeda but i canโt zoom in and get any good results any help ?
thats a drawback to using a phone
Just don't use apple raw. It's already all messed up and destroyed.
Try using raw from an alternative app. I don't know the iPhone ones, but there must be one
yeah i do
You kind of have to have raw for that
Use 3x zoom
Usually people stack but i don't know how that works on an iphone
Android is fine
i do but it just donโt come out right
iโll try and get one tonight but it moves too much for me to get a good photo
i also donโt have a mount just prop it up outside
How so?
Yeah put it on like a chair or some sht
i do but on 3x zoom and being in the uk either clouds ruin it or andromeda moves too much cos iโm trying to get a like 10 min exposure image
Yeah you move with the sky
amazing
thanks
Can anyone help I have a Samsung galaxy a52s can I do any astro stuff with it
orion nebula, heavily edited
Can you send the unedited version
What's the suggestion with android ?
Ye I might have oversaturated the reds a bit
Because it's probably better
No I mean what do you suggest for using ? Default camera app? Expert raw? A play store app?
Default camera apps on androids are pretty good, but using an app called Deep Sky Camera is probably better
I use deafult camera app i find that to already be very good
@amber dome I guess the advantage of using expert raw or deep sky camera would be automatic settings that I don't know what I would need to change on the default app ๐
Single 55s iso 400 without crop. Lagoon nebula
114/900mm, eq3 with onstep, 20mm 68 Degree svbony. Xiaomi 12
how the hell
that is impressive
On a telescope I assume?
yep
Damn bro that's sick!
Dayum
You shouldn't buy a new phone for ap. Just get a DSLR or a mirrorless camera
iโm curious
imx 989. Xiaomi 12s ultra, mi13 pro, mi13s ultra and another ones
It's a one inch sensor. Bigger than the 533... But I don't think they've released more than 32s on it yet. So I prefer the IMX 766 of my Xiaomi 12 which releases up to 55s
Stacked version
with processing
DBE?
Yes, I did
ABE actually. DBE doesn't work very well if you try to use it along the edges of the eyepiece without cropping the image
Holy shit that's amazing
How does deepskycamera work?
Idk how to run it tho
oh yeah
its kinda orange
would you like blurx?
Yes, the edges of the eyepiece change the color a little. I could have fixed this in Photoshop, but I processed this photo in 10 minutes before leaving for college, so I didn't spend much time refining it
Yes, I use Blurx and Noisex
oh okay nice
Dude, I think you're the best phone astrophotographer here. Your pictures are amazing.
The quality wont be the best but its defenetly possible
I have a phone adapter for my telescope so i can take pics
yeah same, some come with one
Yeah but I got more detail from a single uranus-c sub than I did from a whole session of m51 with a phone
DBE please
how long of exposure
blackhole?!?!?!
nice field rotation
Dust spot : )
aughhh I feel like im getting so close to revealing a bit of the dust lanes ๐ญ
I hope I can get more data soon
hastily edited pic of M31, once I get more frames I'll upload a finished photo
I never knew phones can see black holes
Nice joke
What equipment?
Stretch more
You'll get the lanes
S22 Ultra and a tripod
Too noisy to stretch past that point
