#Phone Astrophotography
1 messages Ā· Page 6 of 1
s a t u r a t i o n
you waaaaayy over did it
Ya
please make it look less donald trumpy
ive been doing untrakced for about a year
i know what im doing well
i can do the general astrophotography, now i wanna do tracked
what settup?
planning on getting a swsa 2i
Hmm
or if i find a good deal, a gti since that will last me longer
i got me an eqm-35, uranus-c, and a 134/650 ota coming in
wait no i got those
just a sv106 and a ceres-m coming in
so i can platesolve and guide
now it looks a lot more blunt. its ok... theres a lot of limits what you can do with a phone
Ya
i went from phone astro to untracked
thats jus with a phone, 2.8 hours
Ooooo
uranus-c, 30 minutes
not bad tbh
not a phone photo, just a reference how much a phone limits you
Settings?
Ooo
but i let that run over a lot of time, and i have a higher quality mount
I will try m101 today
okay
im gonna do carina nebula at iso 6400 untracked
send final image
since its kinda getting really high
doing it tonight
shall put in #deep_space_pics
yhum yum
Hi
Which app is best for astro photo
Cuz my normal cam doesn't have raw option
š¦
"DeepSkyCamera" is probably the best, it might have the RAW option, but if it doesn't, your phone probably can't support RAW images.
I do have another phone which has option of raw img but the image has weried noise
Those are not star
I'm pretty sure that you can reduce them a bit by stacking and shooting dark frames
Mine has that problem too but it's way worse than yours
Ooo
It's not weird noise it's regular
And calibration frames probably won't work with a phone, it depends
I never had raw with my phone
That's normal, your iso introduces nouse
The higher iso the more noise
Widefiled milkyway from 2021
- Xiaomi Mi9T, 30x 25s iso 1600
Contryside of SĆ£o Paulo, Brazil. Bortle 3
you are crazy good at what you do
Itās them androids I swear
Still thatās just š¤Æš¤Æ
Ya i was using 4000isoš
That's Beautiful
HOLY SH-
Galaxy S23 Ultra and only 10x camera, 1364 frames, stacked 20%
ISO 50, exposure 1/250
Ceres
Milky Way from Bortle 5 š©
I tried process my moon from S23U 10x lens again, but I tried blind deconvulition, sadly that's introduce some noise and I can't use wavelets sharpening.
What should I do? Do I need increase number of stacked images? I captured 1364 frames and stacked 20%. Should I go to 5000 frames or even 10 000 frames?
Thanks!
Maybe try Imaging when the sky is calmer?
Did you filter out the bad images?
Yes, I stacked only 20% of the best images.
Try reducing that to 10 or 5%
Okay, thanks, but that would be pretty low amount of images to stack - around 136 images. I think I need capture more images, because S23 Ultra have pretty small sensor and also noise
A 3-4 minute video might be enough?
Ngc 3621, faint galaxy i managed to capture. With this much data you can just about make up some structure and general details
Okay, thanks!
C/2023 A3 will be visible around mid October 2024 so yeah be ready for that
One of the best 13 or 14 pro shots Iāve seen
The volcano mountain top in Hawaii. Canāt remember the second part of the name but it starts with K lol
Bortle 1 as bortle 1 can get
Just asked, 14 pro š
Oct 17th 2024 is the best time to see it, being visible with the naked eye, in the west sky during early night and sunset
Right now, calcs are still in the negatives for the magnitude, hoping it stays like thatā¦our predictions for comets are weakā¦
Don't get too excited, comets are like cats, they are very unpredictable
Still
Mauna Kea
Pretty good for like 2 minutes exposure
m8?
Add 43 to that number
M51
Feast your eyes on a single exposure of Venus taken by an iPhone SE2 with no stacking.
you could do better
my eyes had a slight snack
i dont think light pollution has any effect on a object of the -4 magnitude
it is a bortle 9 too
Itās not like I had to turn my exposure way down and use a filter to see it or anything š
you had to because it was bright
over exposued
lower iso
The first one was with a filter
ir-cut?
Canāt change that in iPhone
what filter was it
Just a simple dual layer polarizing filter
you mean a moon filter
No, not a moon filter. Does not filter the wavelength, just reduces the total amount of light coming through
I was using my 8ā Newtonian
thats basically a moon filter
good on you for buying a dob
Not a dob š
send a photo of your rig
don't have one at the moment, but itās the Orion 8ā newt f4.9 on a beefy manual eq mount
I prefer manual because itās cheaper, lighter, and fewer things to go wrong
Not quite
I could install a motor later on, but for now I preferred to not have to deal with batteries or power
batteries???
I have to drive out to the desert to get to anything lower than bortyl 6
please onstep your mount
Onstep?
yea
I do have the exos 2 but with upgraded 2" diameter legs, so it should fit
U can improve it by moving the eyepiece away from the camera it makes a much brighter image
i do ccd astrophotography now
Oh ok
im still here to give advice, and here was the final picture:
hmm really good
yes
Wd
how much integration
2.8hr
low 5, high 4
Well done!
oh
My untracked saturn. 8" dob, Galaxy S23.
that's pretty good
6SE, S21 ultra
jupiter at about 40 altitude
no filters
26 frames at 25 sec shutter, 400 iso. Bortle 5 area. This is my first milky way picture

But like come on itās possible
It very much is
And itāll be funny
The literal only rules are these
iPhone 10 or higher
And some way to contribute data
What about we include android too
Yeah, what about android
I got bodes data still if you ever do iBAT
ill host andriod
Im on team android
IBat vs ABat
Same
Thatās like the 20 begilionth time you post this
We would all need to shoot raw and not many people with phones here can even shoot in raw format
The literal only thing possible is get everyone to use the same app
With the same settings
But jpeggggg
Some phones can shoot in jpeg and some donāt, who cares about the app, if itās jpeg, it canāt work
Even in the same app, some phones wonāt allow raw format
(And thatās why I bought a dslr)
I stacked 200 jpeg images of m31 and I didnāt see any detail improvements, Iād even go to say that the subs where better then the final image
But I mean an app that can live stack which means untracked is possible and tiff saves can be done
Damn it got deleted
The death battle
And we have tracked and untracked, where the tracked is ABat Ultra and IBat Pro Max
Am I doing too much yet?
There arent enough people
Huh?
Get a dslr, I think a single sub with a dslr would already be better then Ibat/abat
No
Let me laugh at you
mhm yeah
Well why dont we make ABat vs IBat and see what is going to happen, my old phone supports raw format so its ok for me. But im not sure for other people
okay bet
ill host andriod
We should not take batā¦bat stands for big ametuer telescope, this is like big phone telescope or something like that
I'm js sharing it, no need to be so interested in my life
Ibat, itās still a big ameteur telescope but with iPhone
No it's your exposure time being so high
I was told to do 30 :/
What are you imaging
Just the stars
is your backyard near street lights
I guess it's just cuz I took this before and learned that those "stars" are actually just noise
No
Idk how to share this info without telling you where I live lol
im not a professional at geoguesser
Don't let the vid fool you, there is light pollution but it isn't bad tbh
Do I need to do lower exposure ? @edgy talon
10s exposures, then stack in siril
take calibration frames if you can
800 iso too, your stacking, not taking single frames
what the hell
don't worry about it, about everyone here has their cords on ask a bot
we honestly do not care anymore
Yeah I'm not too worried lol
yeah you straight
What am I doing wrong tho?
From this to the one I just posted
Like wth?
Why are they so white now? š¦
Is this a good photo?
yes that's a good light
I had to edit it to make it dark :/
oh nvm
Needle galxy
F5
500x light
50x flat
60x dark
40x bius
Bortol 4-5
Of course with a phone
Reflector
how much was light exposure per shot
London Ontario (fairly south west of it tho)
Hmm, at like 10 pm @unborn loom
Try 11pm
I used to be able to take photos like this tho
Yea try at 11 pm
Lmk
What is the time difference going to do?
Make it more dark
Can you send one of your raw frames please?
I will send u those in 1 nad half hour cuz I am not in my house
šæ
Really good do u think I also would be able to get it with my rig?
40 SECONDS OF VIDEO ONLY.
that's what your ment to do
great shot man, congratulations
you even got a tiny background galaxy
can i see the full crop?
Hmm
I used an eye pice to image so that's all
Ya
thats insane
no corrector?
Where are the diffraction spikes?
not that long of an exposure
you can see some spikes trying to arise on some of the brighter stars
Oh
Can I see the quality of one light frame please
20s exposure and edited in my gallery.
Venus
Bean
True
yes
how u save all those files
Ya
Test on m83 while i wait for all the data to upload
we dont talk about what is going on on the right
Epic
Wow
comatastic!!!
How much total exposure time did you put into this?
10 minutes total exposure time with an iPhone 14ā¦60x10s
25 minutes
You should see my carina
How do u take such fantastic images
left one is with a 70/300 frac while the other one is with 114/900 reflector (abbout 2 minutes integration tume on both)
More integrationā¦
Wdym
Its not recent soooo
I am trying swan nebula now (yesterday was clear but seeing was terrible it was soo bad that even the brightest stars were appearing dim ) will try again today
i couldnt cause dss is not accepting (even after selecting stack best 100% frames) also my input frames were 1100 x 1sec š„²
Yeah
No? Mare australis is a bit west to the atiken basin
Yeah that is australis
My mistake
Better image that i took
hyper space!!!!
and this is an orion with a 200/1000
oh and not 2 mins but like 2h
What mount are you using?
was* eq-6r
Not bad!
its gone now sadge

What camera
I just used an oppo f1f phone
Also u have much better stars how
My seeing conditions were extremely good b5 also
I'll send a single sub tomorrow
also a phone, xiaomi redmi 7
I wasn't zoomed in that much, used the 25mil lens that came with the scope (not sure about the fov) and just centered the camera as well as I could and the stars just did their thing, also focused using zoom in to see when the star was the smallest
also by I wasn't zoomed in that much I mean that orion wasn't taking up the whole fov
this is a single exposure, you can see difraction spikes on the bottom left star which is a good sign, also orion is only the inner part of the shot
Wow
We celebrate the longest day and shortest night so yeah
Lithuania stuff
We are makin smores
Vega
Barely visible Ursa Major cause of the CLOUDS and the SUN because this summer barely has NIGHTS and no Astronomical DARKNESS
I had to do a curve stretch (I do it whenever I feel like it)
Dude you're way too agresive on curve stretches ššš
I did the same
Whatās up with that core š
How much exposure was a single sub?
I also used a 25mil Kessler that came with the scope
My fov was similar to yours
There made it less deep fried
You reduced the highlights didn't you?
well here is my single sub (unstreched straight from the camera)
I legit just blended the two together using the smooth eraser š
What works works ok
y
Y wht
Yes..
Which ones tiff? Single sub or final
actually lemme see what i can get out a single sub, bored asf
Oh no no you don't wanna
Wait ill provide u with plaidies try to get the nebulosity out
okay bet
okay
i am providing u with 2 datas taken from same scope but on different nights and different software (same camera)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jhyRI5Exen8BAB1hgJBv3fCfX7xktryF/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qE9xiERgoFt_-okEkzSbcKQ6B5HIvdlk/view?usp=sharing
yes ik i felt verysad when i saw this but
hyperdrive
i m leaving this traget (i chose the wrong scope to target it)
what did you use to take the photos
phone
is that it?
yes
with a scope (114/900)
oh yeah
should have done with the 70/300
bigger aperture
didnt have that much knowledgge atthat time but now ik
yes here is the fov
yeah next time use your 70/300, that other scope will amplify your trailing
yes
and why not use the 70/300 as a guide scope in the future?
its heavy
very heavy
ohh well the thing is my counter weight is not enough to handle the weight of both small and large scope
attach it
double up
attach it to what
put the counterweight from your 70/300 onto your 114mm
my 70/300 is alt az (hobby killer)
oh what the helll
yes ik
that eq mount looks small as hell
in reality its not
in reality it is
are you planning on getting another mount
i might
because this is what im gonna say to you
if you can, switch your 70/300's mount with the 114mm's mount
or, you can find which has better tripod legs and just switch the mount head to it
32s at 200iso
i put the 70/300 on the 114/900 mount
is it better
thats a log expo
WAYY better
i take 1/3 sec exposures
use your lightweight rig like that for right now, and then you can use your 114mm for planetary, which has no need for a eq mount due to you taking a video and stacking it that way
yes yes thats my plan
70/300 for deepsky 114/900 for planetary and galaxies
ok
you can use your 70/300 for galaxies too
but galaxies are tiny
exception Andromeda
and lmc
and smc
if i do andromeda (which i will later) i will use the smaller scope
which one for lagoon?
70/300
with the small one?
yes
ok
ill w8 till the sky gets crystal clear (here is a shot of moon from 70/300 cropped)
#older_system_pics message message link
Same
DAYUMNNNā
It loks like the ISS Is saying yes
is this with your phone? and whats your focal lenght?
130/650mm reflector with 10mm eyepiece and 2x Barlow 4k60fps so I donāt have to worry about taking photos
nice
I also got these 2 the same night
Photo dump
@boreal vessel are you sharpening your deep Sky stuff?
Yes
Mostly
You probably shouldnāt, it increases the noise
True
Capture footage and stack
Stack 10% of the frames, the good ones
Dman
Are those tiny dots stars or noise? It looks way over sharpened
mans likes to sharpen untill theres nothing left
Itās noise, LowSpec sharpens the images and it creates more noise
anyone else doing star reduction on star clusters š¼
Lol fr
Cool
What vignette? That's how the sun normally looks
I already got my coloured version
nvm
1 minute and 32 seconds of exposure, bortle 2, untracked, I forgot flats darks and bias frames
Moon
my rosette with the phone, I processed it quite a bit differently than before and it came out looking great, just the resolution and noise arent the greatest cus phone lol
soon tm
for comparison this was my first process of the same data
ik I'm so proud of myself!
UGGGGHHHHH I want to be able to do shit like this so bad! I'm such a newbie at this whole thing, I have crap equipment compared to you folks and seeing all this makes me so jealous! Beautiful photo bro!
Have you seen my binocular images
No sun, but I don't have a eq mount or anything special so forget it
š¢
It's just there is so much beauty up in the sky!
You can buy one for like 50⬠maybe
Wish I could share it with my family and friends haha
My friends and family don't care about bad images because they don't know what they're looking at
Sad truth
A mount?
Yeah i got a telescope and a mount for 55ā¬
Depends how lucky you are and how your used market is
Thats a good mount
not sure what your situation is but if you're old enough I'd recommend getting a summer job because with that you'd be able to get a great star tracker/dslr setup and you'd be able to take better pictures than I could've with a phone, if you're an adult try saving little by little and start small again with a star tracker and a dslr and slowly add up to it, if you realize that this is not for you you can easily sell the gear. My biggest mistake was starting big, although I got amazing gear it was just way 2 much and it made me hate ap, now I'm budgeting for a different setup so that I'll actually be able to afford a camera and laptop this time around
also remember to budget and when budgeting: you need a camera to take pictures (don't be like me and forget that), aperture doesn't matter for deepsky, you can start without a tracker, start small and add up
I'm 27 yo and have a full time job and married, lots of bills ...
I dont read allat
Moon tonight
ever plan on getting a cc
yessir, gonna order one in like 2 days depending on what happens
gonna switch to dslr then so am going to be leaving yall
but I had a mostly good time here
yeah i had a really good time here too, and good on you for getting a coma corrector
cant leave this place because this my family
personally phone ap just wasn't worth the effort, I mean that rosette image is like 500x500 pixels, I think I could've done much better had I had a dslr
get the dslr, will be way better
2.8 hours with phone
like 20 minutes with a uranus-c
ye gotta find a mount first, you wouldn't happen to know where I could get a used heq5?
night and day tbh
cloudynights?
found a used heq 5 on a german site with a belt upgrade and the owner just wasn't comfortable shipping it so now I don't know what to do
I'll look into it
fly over and grab it
that would make the cost so much higher
or emotional manipulation
nah not like that
just made an acc at cloudy nights
just thinking like damn that mount was a good deal, everything total came to over 1500 new and he was selling it for 850
offer more to get him goin
then get your mount
i need
told him what if the shipping was on buyers risk, because thats what I saw other people do
i hope you get your crazy heq-5
the pictures would be insane
used to have an eq6r and sold it
How much would you have offered?
svbony 40mm eyepiece
damn thats a good deal
ye anyways I bought it with my 200p and it was just way 2 heavy for me so it was a massive pain transporting in the winter and by buying it I didn't budget for a camera so I had a crazy mount with crazy optics but all that with a phone
so now I'm looking for a used heq5 with a belt upgrade and am budgeting for a camera
awww to big to transport such a little babyyy
its not hard to hit the gym
it is when you spent all of your money on ap gear and don't have any left for a gym membership
you can do pushups
no I cannot
plus I didn't even have money for a camera
had to switch something and the scope just didn't want to be sold
Just do calisthenics
True
no mount..
how did I what?
an image of what?
this
mistook it for carnia
oh thats an old image when I still had my eq6
never imaged carina so idk how likely it is to mix them up, but ye I'm still split weather I should invest in another setup cus I did hate ap quite a lot when I left it and am afraid that might happen again and I also want money for the future, especially when I'm going to get into an engineering school it would be cool do work on cool projects which cost a bit more
o yeah
saturn but I cropped it (and blacked out the noise) (you can clealy make out where I blacked out the edges)
(and these are 2 images, forgot to mention that)
I got dione! it was only visible 3 images lol
Cool
did you process with video

I mean I don't have a computer right now
Put it in a google drive
I can stack for you
well later tonight, but yeah
Nice subs
Is it true? Well, I can, but it won't be very fast.
My village internet is not able to upload these photos(sad), but I will share the result in a couple of days.
I would send, but the internet...
damnn
You say yours is bad...
For bortle 3/4 worth it!
Bortle 3 too
these are editied lol
Pretty good
can you share the data

Share the data, as in the image

He's telling you to share the unedited image
Can I edit that :)
go ahead!

Canāt wait because this phone is good, and Iāve seen people do worse with my equipment, so Iām sure I can do pretty well with the new cam
Yeah man
Here's what I got with my uranus c and 6" SCT
Saturn was out of focus soo
People be underselling these things fr
real
I will say sharpness is iPhones biggest weakness
I took this with max power eyepiece combo and itās not that good with banding and the like
iphone also doesn't take that good of raw shots iirc
What's your scope?
I took this with AstroShader, you canāt even see dust
130mm newt (Orion spaceprobe 130ST)
oh ic
iPhone 11
Oh lord you must have been new when you took this
Yep
like 2 days into using my scope
Send a raw frame
nope
Or a screenshot
data is gone
like a long time ago
:(
Asp you ever notice how different peoples photos are of the same targets
Namely Jupiter
Like take this
This was a photo someone took with their phone (I processed of course
)
And this Hubble photo
The banding looks smaller on the first one
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Here is my Saturn with my android
Is this the stack?
Yes, 21s frames stack
Very nice
40 min
That's what bias and darks are for
This I took with the normal camera app at 800.
Shutter?
Highest the thing goes at .3s yes it want processed or stacked but it was a test anyway.
There are stars there, you normally have to open it and zoom in.
Then with the bottom left at least my eye also has a issue because I actually saw those, can't say the same for the others.
At least I know this camera is a no go.
I have a family member with a DSLR so I might borrow that.
Holly crap, I just did a test with my phone using another camera app and dang this camera is definitely not usable. Normally this phone won't go over ISO 800 and 1/3 shutter but the other app lets me go to 1/2 and 16000 (the app specifically supports my phone) and I have significantly spicy pixels everywhere way above the normal noise too.
1/2 isnt enough
your only gonna see like vega
I know it's not but that's as high as it goes.
Going to have to find a different camera.
use a dslr
Venus

Eye warning! How can I change my photo in adobe light room, I've used the regular Samsung editing mode for so long but I cannot figure out how to change the brightness to be dark, I am able to do so on my normal editing mode (I know it's not a great shot but it's the best I can do pretty much) š¦
Oh, I think I got it! Not a terrible shot for a newbie!
Didn't you say that you would buy Uranus-c
No I said I wouldnāt buy it
Oh
Yeah i see
If so pls help
Nahh
:(
I use my phone, that damn equipment is getting hella expencive
Ask in #š¤-ask-a-nerd
I know yeah, i will see. I will probably buy the SV300

If i see the ring nebula with my 5.1 inch newt the you should definitly see it. I really dont know. Like the other guy said. Try not looking at other light sources for at least 10 minutes
Anyone know if it's possible to do image stacking on mobile
There is an app but it is paid and I don't know anything about it except that it exists
Not possible
If you have iphone you can use astroshader
ring is super small
use your lowest power eyepiece, find a star that doesnt look so much like a star
then center in
Averted vision
And low power eyepiece too
looks good
My first image of m57
Its only 4 1sec of exposure
Nice!
These are my first M57 pictures
There beter
It really depends on what u are using, what camera settings are set... And i didnt stack pictures i just edited them in lightroom mobile
Yea we can see that in my image there are more stars but yours has more dƩtails in the nebula
Ye
I used a newtonian 130/900 on an eq2 platform not tracked
Ok
dbe please
makes background more black, then run a green noise removal in siril
Dynamic background extraction
Yeah, siril has background extraction
gradient? what gradient?
i dbed the first one for you, you can see theres a bit less red gradient on the bottom right
Oh my god, thanks thats so much better
That red is the light pollution, its making me crazy
And is it just me or my secondary mirror is out of collimation, im guessing by the shape of the stars
Bro just like me fr
Do you have a coma corrector
The astrophotography mode on the S22 ultra feels like cheating
No
nah that's just coma, the mirror focuses closer to it on the edges
so stars away from the center are out of focus
don't be so thankfull, a coma corrector costs 100$ š (unless you go real cheap)
Probably
any glass optic thing is expensive
maximum accepted error size in optics polishing is i think 1/15th of the wavelength
so you can see how anything in visible light has to be very neatly polished
Why is it complicated
short answer quantum physics
Thanks to my physics teacher tho
Damn, well i call that quantum rizzics
longer awnser: imagine a bucket that catches baseballs, if the bucket has holes that are 1mm wide, the baseballs don't notice the difference between no holes and holes. if the holes are a few cm they get stuck and interact with these holes
well same goes for light
in this example the bucket is a mirror
Ohhh yeah, so every little error distrupts the light when reflected of the mirror
and in glass it would be like trying to deviate the path of the baseballs by very precise amounts, the errors in the glass have the same limit as in the mirror but you have the added cost of having more than one surface to polish, so for every glass surface you have some cost
Ye, you should be a teacher
exactly, you don't feel nanometer sized holes in machined metal, it feels smooth. that's because you are too big to feel the holes
if you were smaller you would feel them
thanks
thanks i never really understood that
Well i gotta go pack, im going on a trip and im returning in 2 weeks (im bringing my scope)
Oh, lemme checl for clouds
For me its 9am
good day then(?
watch out for the wind
last week's trip i happened to have done than when this huge windstorm came in and blew off 5 tripods and my mount
The mirrorš
saved my tele
