Moon Mars occultation taken with celestron star sense 8”
its so bad, the venus i see is nothing but a rainbow 😦
Terrible 5min process and bad pre processing, it'll be better tomorrow
Terrible????
you used an h alpha filter for visual?
its h alpha for ccd cameras, but yes i view it visually through nv
visual h-alpha dont work on nv, ive been told
wwhen did that happen?
damn how much was your night vision
something similar to what i wanted.. either 14" premium dob or nv.. i chose nv
how is it
nv defo out of my price range i just wanna know
because u only see videos with it but what abt actually looking through it
im in bortle 9.. if i was in bortle 5 or lower i maybe wouldnt need it that much, but now its quite good.. idk, good telescope is just as important.. nv bloats stars quite a bit..
How can I attach my dslr to my dob?
using a t-ring and barlow
Ok
I saw a video where you could screw your camera in. When I try to do it with mine it doesn’t work. Video was shot at night so I couldn’t get a good view but I believe all he did was crew it in. Do you know if that’ll work on every dob?
And he used a t ring
can you send the video
Is astrophotography possible with a dobsonian telescope? Well yes, and no... See why as I walk you through step-by-step to the pros and cons of attempting astrophotography with a dobsonian telescope!

It’s possible I missed something as I watched it while I was outside in the cold. I skimmed through it
his dobsonian has threads or he put something in it
if yours doesnt have that then yeah you cant just screw it on
in that case you'd use a t-ring
I didn’t know if it was only for his model or if it was another extension needed
to put it in the place your eyepiece would normally go you need a t ring and a barlow like sword said
you probably wont be able to reach focus without a barlow
if you can you can just unscrew the lens
Can I get a visual of that so I can see it and so I dont mess up my things?
if thats what you mean
just found that on google
with my newt i dont use a barlow since i can move the secondary in closer, at full extension like a normal newt would be i cant reach focus
you can move the primary mirror forward a bit on a normal newt but it might not be enough to get focus
Ok thanks. I’ll send pics tomorrow of what I have to see if I did it correctly
if it works and you can reach focus then you did it correctly, no need to send pictures
anyone got any tips on how i can achive focus on the stars with my dslr + dob
it just seemes like there is no focuspoint
youll need a barlow. dslrs and dobs cannot reach focus on their own unless you mod the mirror position
So would this work?
try it
I tried a while ago and the only way I could get it to work was if I had the 1.25” eyepiece stick out the bottom. Only problem was that the small piece was the only thing the locking screw could touch so I had to support it
Results weren’t the best and I could only image planets and the moon
i know but i already do use a barlow and it seemes like im always focusing to far or to short.
Just keep moving it until you reach focus
and i can focus on the planets or the moon but stars wont get starshaped
That would be coma
With a 6” dob flextube and iphone 15 pro using astroshader
yeah same ay i just took off the lens it fits in there good as it just dosent screw in but if ur cheap u could just ducktap it there
it will fit fine yeah
but make sure you can reach focus without the lens in there
yeah have u tried takin photos like that? and is it any good
not with a dslr no
M81 and M82 through an 8” dob. Taken with a phone.
my first moon mosaic
any advice welcome
Tell me your secrets
I can't get over how cool orions core looks
So to attach my dslr to my dob I would need a Barlow and a t-ring right?
I don't think you need a barlow.
Natively a dslr cannot focus on a dob without a barlow
Is it just using the barlow as a spacer or is there another reason as to why?
For a dslr to focus, you need more inward focus. A Barlow adds a lens which extends the light path so that you reach focus
So the barlow is just a fancy spacer.
Yea somewhat
Tried stacking the one on the left with APP had walking noise then I stacked it in Siril and it magically wasn't there
Canon EOS M10 telescope bresser messier 5" 0.5 sec exposures 567 lights 47 biases 103 darks 21 flats
I have another 600 lights so I'm going to stack that too
It’s like a negative spacer
Ir pass filter + zwo asi 224mc (9mins of expoture)
At 100ms subs
Got it
Why no one mentioning NGC 1999
Looks awesome
Mine does lol
i have to reduce spacers
yeah same
dude thats awasome u use astrocamera or dslr
224mc zwo
nice
@azure lily when you are doing deepsky lucky imaging are you live stacking or just saving the individual frames and stacking them after?
Could you give me your hole process?))
i do live stacking sadly because i’m lazy
At what focal length and what camera?
but if i would do individual frames and get with nina, i would get even better results
250/1200 585mc pro
friday i’m getting a whole new thing
12p quattro on eq 8
What
Damn
That’s cool
I have a manual 12” with a homemade Eq plate
And an imx224
But I use a reducer too
This is my fov
ye it is
Something called seeing
Skywatcher 8" Dob + SV605CC (IMX533) + IR/UV cut
3s x 1893 (1h 34m)
Bortle 8/9
1400 photos, .4 second exposures over 2 nights, 10-inch manual, Bortle 7 (I forgot to collimate, and some exposures wobbled; that's why my stars are so bad)
Have any of you guys tried using an asi air?
4 secound exposures with no tracking? how
0.4 second exposures
ok
how did you find m51 in b9?
with a dob
also did you live stack it?
if yes which app did you use
did you livestack?
I thankfully have a goto dob that gets (very) roughly in the right direction. From there I crank the gain way way up and do some star hopping with the finder until I can see a fuzzy patch on the screen that looks like it.
According to the light pollution maps I'm technically b8 but it's just on the edge. It gets much harder when the moon is out too
no
(not my stack, though)
did u took 1400 singular exposures?
unfortunately, it was with my DSLR over 2 nights
1500
2440
Holy moly
but with barlow lens right?😅
Yes
What am I supposed to compare?, all I see is 2 images of static.
Still looks better than my pictures.

what did u use to stack cuz siril wont do it cuz its not perfectly aligned not even 1/50 will work
DSS
but Im moving to astrosurface
i have a mac🤦♂️ can u use astrosuface with mac??
Don’t know
Untracked mosaic
nice
this forum is so dead
i don t think so
well the 2nd most recent post is from may 5
It's hard mode in a hard hobby :/
no more dob ap for me sadly
think you could send the raw data for this shot?
because to me it seems like the colour is way off. maybe a bad debayer
it was a bad debayer
I might have it somewhere I have to check
