Exploring is really just a matter of choice. If you really want to squeeze primogems, then you should explore. I, myself, explore areas until 80%-90%. After that I leave the region and explore again if I have some spare time. Make sure when you revisit you have a treasure compass though as it really helps with finding missed chests.
Or you can go the hard way AKA interactive map. Usually, stopping until you get all the exploration achievements is okay imo
