Now drama was the hardest part to swallow. Episode 3 (||bullying|| and it was nothing you've never seen) and the last 2 episodes where hard to watch.

Drama in episode 10 was heavy, but rather well done, until the last part of the episode. People were blaming characters for acting as adult. I think it's different and very teenage like, but it's not what you want to see

Episode 12 was a disaster artistically speaking. Maybe they ran out of budget, but it tried in first part and failed (reused frames didn't help). Middle part, the dancing and the music was abyssmally poor and they went full sport anime, where people over comment every little thing... (and it even tried to break the 4th wall with some meta comments...)

My impressions weren't based on the start of the anime to be fair. I have that weird habit of picking up random chapters of a manga to read them and see if I'm into it. And everytime I tried a Nagatoro chapter I didn't perceive what you were describing

(Just trying to be honest, I fully realize it's not entirely fair to criticize a work you haven't fully read/watched. But you can still have an opinion based on the little you know)

Mawaru Penguindrum was passionating. It was really cool to rewatch and understand with more context of the Tokyo Gaz Atk. I even read the Murakami interviews linked to those events. The work on that anime was insane. And symbolism wasn't as in your face as in Sarazanmai

I never finished Yurikuma Arashi. I think I'd like it better than Sarazanmai

One of Sarazanmai's issue is that it's imo adressed to a younger audience. But it overdoes it in some areas which makes it impossible to recommend to said audience...

Welp. Mawaru is 10 on my MAL and Utena is 9. I'm more a fan of Mawaru than Utena. And when it comes to personal preferences there's no hot take imo, just... opinions and feelings

Now I'm fully biased, but you can safely argue that Mawaru is more solid on many points imo

(inb4 the film ruins stuff (or make it better, who knows...))

Death and Rebirth is more or less a summary

I think the order is indicated on MAL in general. You just follow "sequel". It's not as convoluted as it seems

(Depends on the series ofc, it's always good to ask for more info ^^)

As for the rebuild movies (1.0, 2.0, 3.0 & 3.0 + 1.0) they're an alternative version that starts rather faithful but continues different. Feel free to watch them if you're curious. I think they're far less mindfucking. But I also enjoyed them less personally.

Basically the themes in the second season were nowhere near as strong as the first, and everything feels shoehorned in- there's missing information and not the kind where it's like "oooh cool mystery" it's more just "what the fuck is even happening right now and why" and as the season progresses it gets... I'm not sure how to word it other than funky yet boring

The "action" that was dialed up in the first season with quick witted schemes and feelings of tension are replaced with cheap wins that feel undeserved and the kids suddenly go from being insanely smart to kind of dumb if I'm being honest

Iirc the season didn't fully adhere to the manga either, leaving out a lot to be desired

But it's been so long and half the season felt like a boring slog to me that I forgot most of it except for maybe key scenes but the general feeling is still there

Whereas the first season was extremely engaging in comparison

While I'm glad Bojji got a happy ending with Kage I'm still really disappointed. I mean don't get me wrong, I still really like the show and will watch it if it gets a 2nd season, but it feels like the story fell off during the final episodes. Even though I have some issues with the ending I still rate it an 8/10 because the rest of this anime was an absolute masterpiece in my eyes plus the animation was amazing. I just hope the story becomes enjoyable again when another season releases.

And I know that a story can be good without important characters dying but man I really wish some of the main cast died. There were so many opportunities to kill characters off but it just didn't happen for whatever reason which was also somewhat disappointing.

oh also ||everyone else magically forgiving Miranjo simply because Daida did was absolute bullshit and nobody can change my mind on that. also she literally killed Bojjis mother which makes it even more insane that Daida decides to marry her||

First 20 minutes of the 23 minute episode, nothing happens. And 12 of those minutes are spent in the same room, with the same group of people they haven't introduced talking about tea and sweets.
