Mochi (the author) did another manga called The Witch Servant which is also interesting. I discovered the show with the trailers/short episodes, and I felt it was really cool to repiece things together when I watched the TV version
Clearly not for everyone. But I love it

I think them trying to piece it together was also it’s downfall a bit but I appreciate the approach they took
The original stuff was clearly not made with a coherent story in mind
And unfortunately because they had to try to piece one together a lot of the side cast didn’t get much screen time at all
If it got two seasons like uchouten who knows

They definitely overdid it with the symbolism (love those shows in general tho), but I'm glad they did extra episodes to explain where they were coming from. It's rare I care for those kind of stuff in general, but this time it was interesting
Not sure the siblings were really meant to be developped tho. They just each represent a state of mind and a way to cope. But it would have been cool if they had more focus I guess
I'm not really looking for perfection tho, flawed but memorable may just works better than something I find structurally flawless but tends to bore/annoy me
For instance, I fully understand what Anno was trying to do with Eva 3 but I just hated watching it

I don't think combat choregraphy has to relate to combat knowledge. They're 2 different things. Ofc if a show has both it's supposed to be more believable (for who tho? Most of the audience wouldn't notice. And tbh while martial arts films look super cool most moves shown are so impractical that they could be deemed fantasy). But in a fantasy setting, with characters that have superhuman abilities, it often boils up to looking cool, and on that front I think RWBY managed well (at least while Oum was around)

As for the rest of the show, S1 & S2 were mostly lighthearted. I don't think Oum wanted to do something too deep or heavy. But probably unsure to be able to keep its spirit intact after his disparition, they went for a darker S3, with more emphasis on lore ane story. Which worked for S3, but not for the rest. Even if I guess there's decent payoff for faithful fans in the end

Welp, Oum was no pro. And RWBY definitely has a vocaloid vibe. It precisely came at a time where it was cool to watch develop an amateur project into something bigger just because community liked it
And when it comes to S1 & 2 they clearly don't want to be taken seriously. There's a bit of plot, but most of it is comedy and exposition (which kinda helped s3 to create a contrast, there was a lot of content to use for that after all)
Even format was all over the place. It's only with S3 it started to have fixed duration (around 15 minutes) and tried to be more ordered

Now I don't really hang out with community. Seems like the RWBY fanbase irritates people. I don't know why and I feel I don't even wanna know. But I just try to not dislike a show because of its alleged fanbase, no matter how annoying an spammy they are

Welp, that's kinda reductive don't you think ? And I'm glad someone got to realize one of their ambition before their death even if it was far from being perfect. You can't really say to people: "Stay in your comfort zone and only do what you're gold at" (and not that good according to you)
Now I definitely feel this way for some shows. Afro Samurai is something I could have enjoyed better if it had no plot for instance

But RWBY was mostly harmless in what it tried to do at first. Comedy and exposition don't ruin the show, at worst you'll have a poker face if it's not your cup of tea. You won't actively roll your eyes cause "plot so bad". There's very little of that
