The TV show is really average and honestly forgettable

people hype up the movie and honestly.... the movie isn't that impressive eiher

it's a fairly generic series overall

and the movie has advantages and disadvantages to the tv show

so it's very tough to say that the movie was outright better or worth watching

on the plus side

i have the intent to watch more kyoani in addition to my other projects

so expect some impressions on another kyoani work tonight or tomorrow

Personally, gave the movie a 7 (tho only barely, for having a somewhat memorable ending and decent mid-section), and the show a 5 (again, just barely due to a handful of episodes that were 'almost' able to give some depth to the characters)

Liz and the Blue Bird is a spin-off movie of Hibike

And you don't need any background to watch either series

The thing is... Liz and the Blue Bird.... is just forgettable

It's got some cameos that Hibike fans will like

But the plot and subthemes are over things that are over explored in other anime of the genre and its riding on that Hibike and Kyoani hype to make it better than what it really is

It's watchable and you'll like the plot, but I'm confident that I won't remember much of the show months and years from now because the characters and plot aren't that memorable for me

• Love is War (Kaguya sama)
• Over the Moon for You (Tonikaku Kawaii)
• The Demon Girl Next Door (not officially a romance, but my god, its the most yuri non-yuri (atm at least) show ive seen)

As for action,

• Re:Creators. I shill this show a lot, but for a reason man ;-;
• Vivy. Steins Gate meets Terminator
• Cop Craft. Buddy cop drama, but the setting is a modern-day magic city
• Beyond the Boundary. A rather unique story with Kyoto's signature super well done action animation. Needs the followup movie for closure though

Honorable mention:

• Bofuri (max defense anime). The first two episodes are kinda borning, but if you can make it past that, a pretty light comedy with wacky and rapidly increasing in absurdity shenanigans.

Saya from the blood c universe was captured after going rogue during the Vietnam War
Humans created a deal with the monsters so that they won't be random attacking the citizens
So the government give people to the monsters so that they won't be all over the city like in the blood + universe
When saya was captured, she was experimented on, they Erased her memories and gave her fake ones. She was living in a fake reality during the blood c anime, once kanako gave her the blood of the elder bairns she got her memories back, that's when she realized that everything was fake, the town and the people she knew were fake, it was all a huge act.
Then all the killing and gore started.
The monsters are different due them mutating coz of humans experimenting with them. Itsuki the guy who was brutally killer by a soldier with a gun was there to gain information for a group that's trying to expose the truth to the public. His group is shown in blood the last dark, Fumito is the one who started the experiments, the one who captured saya and did everything. Fumitos cousin is the one who started the group to expose "the truth" to the public. Members of the group were itsuki, shun fujimora, hiro tsukiyama, lori matsuo, yanagi haruno, and some other girl but I forgot her name. Kuroto Mogari is fumitos cousin, the one who created the group to "expose the truth to the public". It was easy for him to gather people for that, but his true intentions were to find saya and to bring her to fumito, which he succeeded on doing.

Fumito is obsessed with saya and Kuroto just wants money and power. They both got power coz their family were rich and connected to the government, they killed their own family just to gain power to succeed on their own selfish goals. Kuroto realized that fumito wasn't going to give him anything after he brought saya to the base, and he stabbed him with a sword, fumito then turned him into an elder bairn and after that he used the elder bairn power to create a giant monster, coz he's able to manipulate its power. Saya then destroys the monster that he created and kills him.

Also saber being a part of 4th holy grail adds taht extra layer of depth to her in s2 ubw and make much more of an emotional impact because of her development in f/z s2. Kirei killing tokiomi was done so much better in zero. Ubw will spoil it which removes the whole shock of what kirei did, it was executed so well in zero. Kirei is not a trustworthy preist.... Hmmmmmmmm but that makes kirei much more interesting in ubw ig since you're gonna be wondering wtf is kirei up to most of the time. Sakura wormed was a good twist ig but imo the pros are much more than the cons of watching zero first. Avalon existence adds that Layer of understanding as to why shirou healing is not just random bs and actually a well constructed moment||
