Here’s what I call a “6” anime

Okay Good enough to give it a try. It has its niche. Some anime that have received a six started off very strong and I adored the series until it reached an important plot development and went straight to the garbage. Other shows made me feel "been there done that". A six is a solid score that lets you know that ReynTime enjoyed it to an extent, but something was missing.

It's nothing against Vivy or Odd Taxi, it was just last season was mostly a filler season

It falls into the category of "it has its niche", but it wasn't something that blew my socks off

Decent. The anime is "good", but the series has some notable faults (lots of tropes/ lack of polish/bad pacing, etc) that detract from the experience to firmly recommend. I may enjoy this show a lot, but I understand that the show isn't revolutionary and it's simply a guilty pleasure.

my overall thoughts is that the psychological depth is pretty good but the characters are hit or miss for a lot of people

2nd season had the better character development, but the worst overall "story" (not much action/events for the viewer to enjoy, and a bit of a decline in animation).
1st season did a better job at keeping things engaging, but suffered a bit in sone character development because of that (its still there, but not to the extent of S2)

Both are still very high recommendations in my book, but S1 (and the first half of S2) have a special place in my heart 👀

There’s a reason why 2nd season is peak for readers and it’s the characterization contents it holds that’s great on paper

Too bad for most of us watching the anime it feels as if they’re running in circles 80% of the time

S1 also tended to do a better job of "spicing up" the more boring scenes.
Ex: In the very first "loop" (so not really that much of a spoiler), Subaru is trying to talk things out with Felt, who's suspicious since he shouldnt know anyone is there.
S2 would have likely done "holding the sword at his throat while he talk-no-jutsu'd his way out", while S1 takes a more... animated approach to the negotiation

luckily the earlier investment of white fox opening its training branch whitefox izukogen paid off

since the only reason the main white fox studio was even able to handle rezero s2 was because of help from izukogen (basically their training school where they teach new animators)

Funnily enough a lot of good looking shots were done from trainees in izukogen branch

but yea atm white fox is in a terrible state to adapt re:Zero especially s3

either they have to wait till studios bind gets a break from animating mushoku and hand re:Zero over to them in the break or make re:Zero do an entire new studio change

It's an oversaturated market, so each new one is less "groundbreaking" and more "here's one small difference than the rest", since so much has already been done.
But then again, the same could be said for any genre if you look outside of the "big"/top tier ones.
Fantasy, action and romance have plenty of trash as well sadly.

But I think that at least as far as the "big name" ones go, we're still getting pretty decent isekai from time to time.
In the manga/light novel world, Ascendance of a Bookworm (2015), A Wild Last Boss Appears (2016), Overly Cautious Hero (2017) and Re:Creators (2017) all brought something fairly new to the table. (dates are when the LN started. Animes came a bit later (except ReCreators, which was an anime original))

There was a big initial surge in the early 2010s, then a "trope reversal" trend in the mid-late 2010s. The industry just has to find what the next direction to take the genre is

hm, havent actually seen the others, but if Wonder Egg Priority/supernatural is something you like...
Some recommendations:

Toilet-bound Hanako-kun: Supernatural mystery revolving around the various school rumors at the school. Well animated, and gets pretty dark/serious later on. Beautiful animation and a unique artstyle too.
Beyond the Boundary: Kyoto Animations, so you know the animation and character writing is good lol. A good mix of supernatural and action.
Shinsekai Yori (From the New World): Supernatural mystery set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have developed telekinesis. Pretty dark, and a really unique tone.

Well, depends. I'd argue its not necessarily the "greatest" in any one thing, more just what it does, it does consistently well.
There's shows with better characters, animation, story, pacing, etc imo. But its rare to find one that does a good job with all of those at once.

Definitely a great starter anime tho. Gives you a good baseline for assessing if other anime are worth your time
