This actually matters a lot. Manga/manhua/manwha adaptations tend to take a lot of liberties with the source material that usually hurt more than help it. In the case of something like MT it very much hurt early parts of the manga because they basically ripped out entire plot points (I'm looking at you Shirone arc). If the Manga was your only experience with MT you would probably have a much lower opinion of it than if you had read the novel, or watched the anime which adapts the novel.

I'm pretty sure there was an anime like that second part, based around a little girl in a chaotic world that has monsters hunting people and only a few safe havens, but everyone but the rich is fighting for survival and to keep their heritage alive
