Havent caught up with the anime yet, but I did enjoy the light novel quite a bit
The prince's character has some nice depth to them in the LN
I so wish we had a general gaming chat or something
Xenoblade 2 crashed on me for a third time (thankfully it was only an hour setback this time) and man this game hates me
Rip
First time I lost like 5 hours.
Second was 3.
This time it was only 1 thank God
Yeah, it'd be hell to have to play that much back again
We had #other-games, but they nuked it in the server redesign and I honestly dont know why
I liked other games. Now I need to cope with anime because it's the closest thing
I can only assume it wasn't as busy as they wanted it to be
While this channel generally gets a conversation or more per day
We did
But it's gone!!
Ya
Kinda weird how there's no general channel anymore
No more funeral parlor
Closest thing is TC lounge but that's a gated community!!!(Idk what that means)
TC lounge scares me. It's like old gtalk
even if it's not busy, I'd still say it's important to have to redirect the occasional offtopic convo 😔
feels weird to just not have a place for any topic that isn't anime or a hoyoverse game
Yeah, I agree
how dare u
Like they took copium and the other off topic chats and it's a little out of place in Genshin talk lol
It sucks because I like to yap about tcg stuff a lot too which definitely can't squeeze under any available category. Like today we were learning to play the league of legends card game because the demo decks came in to work. Which was neat.
lowkey tempted to take up the cause and make my name "JakeFromStatefarm ✦ Bring back #other-games"
I should do that because gh lounge at least got archived lol.
Dang, too long of a name

I mean this is basically what legends arceus is. This is just a much prettier mock up and has Red
😭
Let's rename and convert this channel into pop-culture channel lol
Could work
Means I’m gonna shill more comic books readings here more openly

@tidal shore @dusty fable can you explain the quote about the seperation of military and police because if military becomes the external and internal protector, the enemy tends to be the civilians?
Historically, military had a lot of power. Namely, weapons and people. Hardly anything can compete with that
So historically, rulers tried to divest power from military as much as possible without crippling it
So, as soon as military has a complete control of all military assets, the first enemy is the ruler(or government). As soon as military becomes the ruler, they just start to enrich themselves without much consideration for people. So any unrest will be met with military power. You don't need to look far, there are plenty of countries with military in charge at different stages of power encroachment today. The only more or less decent one is Egypt, but that is only as long as US money floats them and military scale back their ambitions because US investment is more lucrative than anything they can achieve in their region themselves.
thinking back to history
there's one successful military-governed state I can think of
which is the Mongol Empire
The terms of success is pretty vague. If you want to see a decent military-governed state, that would be Denmark, historically.
success is that they made big history or something
there's also the whole warring states of China
can't say people living there were too happy though
That's hardly an example of good governance. Just a combination of factors and technology that the continent didn't have counter against
As soon as military becomes the ruler, they just start to enrich themselves without much consideration for people.
reminds me a lot of the Polish "Szlachta" during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth union
admittedly each noble had their own army
it wasn't a serf system like the Russia
but they de-facto controlled the country
especially in part due to the dumbest law in history: Liberum Veto
which made it epicly easy for, say, Austrian or German or Russian spies to inflitrate, bribe, and cripple the country
fair enough
GILGAMESH IS A DAMN MONSTER HOLY SHIT
Well there is a reason for that...

@dusty fable @tidal shore remember the question I asked yesterday? I think that could happen in Indonesia in a few days
IF the situation isn't conducive in the next few days
Indonesia seems doomed tbh
Also, talking about doomed...
TW : Torture down below
What do you think is the best torture method personalized for each nation that wouldn't hurt them physically, but hurting them mentally, like how some Japanese office who doesn't like a worker force them to have nothing to work for, but still getting paid (because Japanese people likes to be productive)?
I did read some news about indonesia the other day, im sorry yall burnt a parliament building???

Yeah, but it's a branch, tho I don't condone the events that leads towards to the death of people who are stuck inside the building
Me after the Japanese bosses hire me and make me not do anything (it's the best job I'll ever have)
anybody gonna watch that sekiro anime or nah?
@dusty fable I've just bought P3R
are you getting hired in Japan coco
this can't be real
But since it's a disc form and not an online form, I need to wait for it to arrive at my home, I also won't be playing it right away because I need to focus on my studies, even though it's online classes due to what happened in my country, I still won't be playing it, I will be playing it on the weekends
Nah!!
L bozo
not true I have a buddy working there (foreigner)
he just has no one to go out with
Whatdahail
I thought they work 80 hours a day no breaks!!!
noooope
depends on the company
I imagine foreigners aren't rly expected to spend overtime with their bosses drinking booze after work
that arc is insane
I forgot fire force was still ongoing
Great, now that one I am more interested to discuss, though I have only played original P3, not the remaster. 15 years ago or more🥲
MASS DESTRUCTION, COME IN RIGHT UP
is p3 original good?
Yeah, pretty much the only thing outdated there is Tartarus - dungeon, that didn't age well and could be somewhat obnoxious
Very.
I think the remake is honestly a downgrade in terms of music and voices
I love the vibe it brings
Author just loosely confirmed the MC would be gay for the male MC if he was a gril lol
WHY DIDNT THEY SHOW ME SHIBUYA’s REACTION TO MALE TOWA 😭
What manga bro?

Holy shit, Sherlock Holmes is a guy and he's hot
Holy hell what the fuck
why is edgar allan poe a child?
@tidal shore yo Cave, i've just learned about Polish Haitians
What serialized manga that should've been a oneshot instead of a long running manga? Like there is the vice versa of that, but what about the question? The series with the idea that would've been benefitted if it's only one chapter instead of multiple ones
Shield Hero. Only the first chapter is good. Should have stayed that way
nah it's still better than most other isekai
and the parallel universe stuff was pretty neat
The only thing I can't stand in anime is moronic main character and moronic adversaries. Shield hero is a terminal case of having adversaries with a threat level of a wet noodle but somehow MC still can't do anything against them
I guess you can't do much with a shield against a noodle
Since you're here, look at what has arrived
And this friday is a religious holiday, so I get to play on thursday evening
Disc's are definitely still a thing. Thank God.
shit you actually got it

I fear they have a obsession

thats awesome dude, good luck playing

braaah... latest episode of isekai 7th prince is peak anime through and through from animation to story and wtv else..its there
which remined me i dint finish the other actual pig isekai anime from long ago...
Also, imo, this song can be used on horror games with the trope of you walking on a very dark place and your only source of light is a flashlight
Well, would you look at that? The afternoon class is cancelled, now I can play the game, but my little brother's friends have come over and played the PS, so it could be still the same time to play

This Tesla is also ||Married to Welt HSR|| HI3rd/HSR spoiler

Would you guys make bad deeds go punished or would you guys make good deeds go rewarded?
It's not a binary choice. Also, rewarding good deeds could be detrimental. That could replace an internal motivator for good deeds with an external one. Ideally, people should come up with their own reasons to do good, so that it would be consistent and becomes a habit. External motivators could be inconsistent (as can be seen through history with how religions developed). While religions' impact is mostly positive, there are many disadvantages to it
So the only choice is the bad deeds go punished then
Wdym the only choice? As I said, these two choices are not mutually exclusive. And in generalisation, they are both wrong. You don't want every bad deed to be punished either, because it would result in a culture of fear. Fear of God is one of many issues religions have. Now imagine that sort of fear actually based on reality. That would be a debilitating sort of fear
What is your own answer?
In simple terms, neither option is a complete solution.
Idk if you have read this manga before, but let me take you to challenge your own values with this manga
Can you be considered doing bad deeds if you punish only bad guys who go unpunished?
I'll look at it. But, tbh, it's a very explored topic throughout the fiction and philosophical argument
This will be the main question throughout the manga.
Well, topic of vigilantes is also heavily explored. The conclusion is that single person can't keep a stable moral coordination system. They tend to drift even if their starting beliefs were quite solid. So our best solution is a weighted engine, that we call morals and ethics that adapts itself. Not the best possible solution, but workable
both
duhhh
I mean, technically they're the same thing
The only difference is if the "reward" for good behavior is a reward or an absence of punishment, and if the "punishment" for bad behavior is a punishment or the absence of a reward
Negative and positive reinforcement are both reinforcement
@dusty fable WANT TO BE CLOSEEEE! The changing time clock starts playing
You could argue they are the same (in semantics), but for example in Christianity there is clear division: heaven and hell. Evildoers are all punished by being sent to hell, and good deeds are rewarded by good ppl being sent to heaven(in a very simplified form, since the point is not going into theological debate but show the distinctiveness of options). The division is clear, and reasoning is too. If you meant these options exist together working as a counterpoint and lose the meaning if only single one exists, then I agree
I meant that you cant say it's a choice between "good deeds are rewarded" OR "bad deeds are punished", since just going off of simple psychology, not giving a punishment can be a "reward" ("You're the only one that got this right, so you don't have to attend the afterschool classes"), and not giving a reward can be considered punishment ("you failed your exam, so you don't get to go to Disneyland").
The heaven and hell bit is really just a matter of degrees really. How much good is rewarded and evil punished.
I agree that absence of punishment is technically a reward, and absence of reward is technically punishment, but as far as reinforcement goes, they are not the same. Because absence of reward would be a continuous punishment, which wouldn't be a punishment at all due to adaptation and normalization
Which means after a time absence of reward becomes normal, and stops being considered a punishment
See, that's not even the original question anymore
That's moved from hypothetical morality to logistics and practicality.
The original premise didnt even specify what rewards/punishment
@dusty fable Still weird that the first Social Links in P3R outside of the groups (aka individuals) is not even from the group itself, not Akihiko, not Mitsuru, not Junpei, heck, not even Yukari, but it's a freaking ass random classmate, Kenji
He acted similarly to Junpei when approaching the mc, except, he's a bit more openly freakier than Junpei (for now)

do I finally read this before the anime airs
or do I keep waiting a few more years
I feel like it would be most epic if I binged on the manga after watching the tv series
Kenji, the legend(wait for the true legends: seller Tanaka and nightclub monk). Also, it just means that party members are more introvert and tend to be shut in, which is why they are better at using evokers (yk allegory to what evokers are). So pretty much your schoolmates are better at opening up towards you. P3 is much deeper than p5 in this regard
Junpei is a special story. You will understand why. He is not really that open. It's funny, but P3 FES opening (or original, can't remember) is a bit better at depicting partymates for what they really are
Than p3r
Don't look at p3 story through p5 lens, you will get a wrong idea. P3 is much deeper
should i read the manga?
If it's A, M, or Y, I understand, but J??? Being introverted/shut in?? I don't think he looks like that (for now in my gameplay, probably it will be like what you said in the next reply to my message)
Also, I'm sorry to trash on your favorite teacher, but Toriumi looks like an NPC lolllll
Also again, the teachers in the school (for now again) is wayyy more incompetent than Kawakami, they want to teach their own thing instead of teaching what has been assigned to them

one other thing I noticed about modern anime
this is also true for Apothecary Diaries
and a few other slops that were posted here
it's all so... SLOW
why is it so quiet and slow!
Because of the source material and the seasonal model. Either they have the time to be slow and adapt it properly or they have to intentionally slow everything down because with their allotted episodes they'd only make it halfway through something important even if they rushed.
Things like Apothecary Diaries are the former
But fr tho, I can't hold myself back listening to french accent lol

︀︀
︀︀Based on the Fantasy Manga by "Danmachi" writer Oomori Fujino & Aoi Toshi
︀︀
︀︀(Tsue to Tsurugi no Wistoria)
why so long
There are plenty of shows that are not slow. If Apothecary Diaries was any faster, ppl would get their brains fried just like with LOTM
They've never seen Saiki Kusuo then
actually recently rewatched Pervert Prince and it's a great comparison here
Wha... Isn't that a gag character? Not much to think about there
infinite pacing tho
unless this is more about a lack of sound
anyway I'm not crazy, anime did get slower and less dynamic in the past decade
You should watch anime from 90s and 00s. Epitome of slow paced
^There's a reason my list of completed animes falls off so hard pre-2010 lol
The pacing is nightmarishly slow
Is it me, or the text says SKIBIDI here? If it's me, I blame cocoglock
Idk about the filler, outside of action shows there aren't much filler episodes if any at all. If you mean traditional fan service like seaside or hot springs episode, then yeah, those were the times when shows must have had those
Nah, not the fan service episodes. Just episodes with a ton of wasted space 100% just to pad out their run time.
Even more narrative focused shows like Code Geass weren't immune. They had an entire episode around "Oh no! A cat stole his secret identity mask! Can he track down the cat and retrieve it before someone spots it?"
That was the entire episode. No other plot points
Those work to break up tension, dude
They bore me to death and thankfully seem to have largely died off since then aside from your Saturday morning cartoon-esque slice of life's
Tbh, many of those episodes are built on the memes of that time, so it's understandable that late newcomers don't understand them and find them boring.
Also, that style of pacebreaking comes from Visual Novels, and VN fans was one of the main target audiences at that time. So you kinda need to understand the way VNs worked to appreciate that sort of storytelling, which is why the style died out as soon as VNs stopped being the main source of anime fans
Did I just get "it was before your time, you wouldn't understand"?
I feel my youth returning to me
I mean, yeah, the times change, what can I say
there's a reason the only 90's anime I've watched is Berserk
One Piece got especially bad with it around 500 to 700 episodes in
so bad in fact that I could complete 50 episodes a day just cuz there was so much skipping to fo
do
made the experience more engaging tbh XD
Unfortunately, nobody has time for VNs anymore, but VNs have one of the best narratives out there. And a lot of game developers of the last decade were inspired by VNs of that time
Ppl are crying for whatever Obscure 33 story is, but tbh that's pretty boring compared to most top VN moments
And VNs do hit hard because of the pacing. I don't think that effect is reproducible in any other kind of medium
Obscurus 33 felt like a fever dream
I stopped when the only character I was invested in died
which is act 1
also feels like kingdom hearts level of slop (not that I ever played it)
best of all? South Park did this turn based combat 10 years earlier and people are yapping about it revolutionising the genre
and here I am like "nah bro u trippin"
Also there was an interesting dynamic and meta-storytelling hidden behind those episodes. Usually, they were put there 1) to unwind you after a story bombshell 2) make you soft and relaxed before hitting you with a bombshell(like killing a chara) for maximized effect. Eventually these episodes became a "red flag" and viewers started second-guessing what would happen next, if such an episode appeared. So that whole metagame was kinda lost
it's still a good narrative practice for longer tv series
I find that actually comedy writers are the best at managing tension like this
real life isn't just composed of slow pace and nothing-ever-happens
there's contrast to consider
Well, nowadays they just split the show into cours and let you unwind in the months between the cours
for series that lack this contrast I'll likely never watch them (looking at you Frieren)
on the other hand Heavenly Delusions absolute peak with this
Frieren gets good in the second half in that department
it goes like wham bam and action filled and the characters can even joke during the moments to break up the tension, but never in a way that sabotages it like most other writers
looking at you Shounen writers, seriously HOW can you be so bad at writing action
it's incredible
I don't have the patience for this
Up to a taste. I found the pacing rather wacky there and rather mistimed
there's not a single character there I'm interested in, even after slogging through 5 episodes
unfortunate
the recent rewatch of Perverted Prince had a similar structure, and when it did slow down it would hit HARD and DEEP, getting existential and all
it wouldn't pull punches, and it was usually at the end of the episode so you could sit with it too
and then we back to comedy routine
Well yeah, the characters are boring and that doesn't change. It's just how it is. But the idea is genius and it reaches its peak in the second half
unfortunately Heavenly Delusions > Frieren
hell
SAO > Frieren
Idc
no investment no watching
It's kinda intentional, because Frieren is supposed to be desensitized due to her perspective on the flow of time and story revolves around that, so the POV is bound to be boring. It's the points of exit from the POV where Frieren shines
but I'll admit the issue for this comes down to the message that it looked like it was trying to convey until I stopped watching, the message appeared to me so banal and obvious and something I've already thought through countless times to the point where even that couldn't make me interested
Which is? I don't think the message is banal there.
I'll take your word for it
For what it's worth, there are very unique ideas and perspectives on history and how it works
There are a few similar notes in Spice and Wolf, but Frieren takes it way further
I took it for "people around you and your experiences with them are important" since she kept flashbacking like that and being a slobbery mess
learning to appreciate the moment and the life around u
something like this
A bit of that too. But it's more about "what we are remembered for". There are some interesting concepts like: if you are a teacher, are your teachings worth anything if none of your students amount to anything? Are your teachings worth a lot if they produce superior students? Would you be remembered by your successful students and what if there are none? It's boring, but interesting
This is boring only if you don't expand on it yourself
it's mildly interesting maybe
probably
I kinda wanna think about it now
does it matter thi
tho*
does it matter if you're remembered at all
I already kinda have my opinion on this
Technically, the ideas exist much longer than our genes. Your genes passed down for 7 generations dilute so much that generally can't be traced back specifically to you in most cases
While teachings survive much longer than that
and most people don't even live to see the results of their ideas or teachings
Well, some people crave for power, some don't, some people crave for riches, some don't. The same goes for becoming a historical figure(or at least someone who leaves a footprint). Ppl have different raison d'etre. Most ppl aspire to leave a footprint one way or another
what's your way to leave a footprint
"Having a happy family" is pretty much one of those
My work
ic
for me, my relationships
it's good enough for me if I'm even a slight positive influence for someone
In general, there are a couple super rare tropes in Frieren. One of them is a dead person as one of the main characters. Meaning, they take significant role in the development of the story but they themselves technically stopped developing at the point of their death. But we experience the development through the way the story is told. It's a very rare trope and I often find it in the most interesting stories
I started reading a vampire webtoon and the female lead is the funniest shit ever
ur right

#dungeonmeshi #frieren #pey
Another interesting trope
Oh I love pey
His videos on frieren and dungeon meshi have been really good, as well as any discussion he has on any anime
I liked another about that one movie I forgot the name of
Well, dungeon meshi is an oddball overall. Usually, the point of the trope is to get an "alien" perspective on some normal everyday thing to make it interesting. Dungeon Meshi creates an Alien perspective on Alien setting and I don't know how it works, probably how nobody knows how DnD games work
issok tho
I don't have to get everything
it's pretty much a cooking show with some plot mixed in
the natural evolution of cooking anime
took like 5 years for TV to catch up to the idea tho
what's the movie about, maybe it's worth watching 👀
maybe I know of it
peam
Nah, there is Shokugeki no Soma the one ring to cook them all
Tbh, there are plenty gourmet shows. And the idea is very old. Even HunterxHunter has Food hunters (not the main plot, but idea is there)
Then there was Toriko, which I never watched but planning to for the last 15 years
I'm moreso talking about the trends here
Food Wars feels a bit like an outlier (and it's heavy on comedy)
the modern cooking shows afaik tend to be much more slow paced, and less comedy, and no fanservice
lots of assumption here tho
not my cup of tea
didn't know about HxH
Toriko first time hearing it
Toriko, Gintama and Beelzebub - the three anime that were on my "to watch" list for the longest time. All of them were pretty much top shows 15 years ago
Ah, also Sket Dance
I watched Gintama and Sket Dance. Eventually I'll watch Toriko and Beelzebub
Technically One Piece and Conan are on that list too. But I don't expect to watch either in any capacity due to sheer length
much easier to read
and to skip Detective Conan fillers
half the episodes are fillers
Well, I generally don't read manga. Dislike reading it from the screen, and I'd rather spend money on books than manga tankobons
Though I do not mind reading really good manga
Or something decently good that has low chance of being turned into anime like Raqiya or Dorohedoro. Though Dorohedoro was eventually animated out of nowhere to my surprise
I still gotta watch that
Dorohedoro manga is my favorite "what is this fucked up setting" manga. Afaik the author was an assistant to the author of Blame! And took everything even further
Arguably, it's the first time the trope "a person living in a monster's mouth" appears. At least that I know of. It became somewhat popular after that with Hells Paradise and 7thPrince being the latest usages of this trope
In case of Dorohedoro, there is a person inside a Cayman
And that Caiman bites other people's heads to let the person inside him find someone he is looking for
Fun fact: The Yakuza Stage Play actually have Kiryu pause a fight, and chuck down some Staminan Royale to heal himself.
I just got the game what is happening 💔
Two girls who are artists and go through life with that as their favorite thing to do but each one does it for a different reason one being more miserable than the other
I think it was called look back or something
Kiryu
isn't it the same author as chainsawman?
fujimoto's?

wrong order buddy?
Ofc it exists as a compound knowledge or a set of criteria you come up with. Correct me if I am wrong, but I assumed that you meant "intellectual highground" behind "media literacy". If so, no such highground exists, only we ourselves try to imagine that it does. If you meant "good taste", then it only develops only up to a point and pretty quickly, so not a useful metric either, since it's very subjective and only useful to people with similar taste. If you meant that you get a better selection process, while it's true, it also means you are prone to discard good outliers. Which means none of these possible meanings of media literacy can be used for comparison of expertise
Ok, that I can agree with. But it's more down to critical thinking ability. You won't develop it just by watching tons of anime or reading books

Media literacy is an essential sk...
for reference
true, you can't practice something without actively doing it
and it often requires a lot of knowledge about our current world too
Critical thinking is a separate process from media consumption. It doesn't involve media at all. It is just useful everywhere, media included
Haru Urara just fucking died.
the one caveat I have is that, without the prior knowledge of what media is, what it intends to do, and how it can sway your opinion, it's difficult to analyse
even if you're equipped with the tools
errr
I would agree though that media literacy is a result of applying critical thinking to media process
But it's more of a product
And it's still questionable, how useful it is beyond your own views
For example, were ancient Greeks media illiterate? At what point you become literate?
NTL, do you know Muetatsu is and how to get their social links?
I'll be honest, I never thought about what exactly is the difference between media literacy and applying critical thinking to media
I'm getting the vibe that there's a difference
even if only a slight one
Well, in the end, the one thing she gave up is life...
Yk? Because she never gives up during races? Lol
Idk if life due to natural causes is something you can give up xd
It is stat locked. You need to lvl courage and strength, mostly courage I think
Also, you need to unlock ability to visit the area late in the day, but can't quite remember prerequisites
You mean like charm or actual strength that strengthens my attack?
Higher, lvl 3 or 4 courage. And lvl 2 or 3 strength
Wait, don't tell me there is more to the social stats than the 3 I have rn
Whoever really focuses on courage instead of balancing between the 3(?) is funny lol, no reason
Strength is battle stat
wait this is awesome @dusty fable
I still think that ppl confuse media literacy for something else. While the task in the post is interesting, I fail to see its relevance to literacy

Media literacy is dead. ...or so I thought. Come with me as I recount how I spent months of my life trying to understand media literacy, along with lots of help from my friends. It's a big one.
CHAPTERS:
00:00 - Intro

12:37 - Fi...
rewatching this
wdym literacy
the task does show that you can write something, based on data, and twist to your own motive, which is something the TV - that is news, journalists - do all the time
any video online you watch, or online post you read
Why there is an assumption that you need media literacy for this? I have seen 6yo kids twist the narrative all the time to suit their needs
and so I see media literacy as an ability to discern the truth from the writer's intent
well, think about it, what better way to show someone how many ways you can twist something than by giving everyone the same experience first, the same statistics, and the same conclusions, only to subvert it all at the end (on the 3rd period in the post)
I think the task is meant to predispose people to be more cautious about how they consume media
Again, that skill doesn't have any relevance to media. Otherwise kids wouldn't be able to do that
of course kids are able to do that, anyone is quite frankly
but having that bit of caution can enable many people to start thinking
you can't apply critical thinking without stopping to think, no?
Yeah, but it's critical thinking, not media literacy
definition is vague, I will admit
but
I would agree though that media literacy is a result of applying critical thinking to media process
Idk what exactly you mean by that, but maybe we can settle on a more concrete definition of media literacy
personally I'd start with applying critical thinking to media, any form of media really
Well if it's the process of "applying critical thinking" I don't think it needs any sort of secondary naming to confuse things. If we are talking about the product of said application, then maybe
yea the thing is I genuinely don't think it's just applying critical thinking
The question is, is the product the end result or not? How useful it is?
there's more
huh I haven't thought of that
the definition reads smore like a process though
the knowledge, part of improving one's own general intelligence, is also important
just knowing physics, physical phenomena, social power structures, etc
this can take off an immense amount of cognitive load when analysing media
But why invent some process when there are already pretty defined thought processes humans exhibit that explain all of our activity? It's just creating some fictional thought vehicle or renaming an already existing thought process
ofc you can't know about everything, but I still find knowledge very important for both critical thinking and media literacy
Idk it was invented in 20th century Idk what intellectuals at the time thought
people love patterns and to categorise everything, my best guess is that this is useful so far as in talking about it among people who know about it
or perhaps there was a need to create the distinction, since critical thinking is a process that can be applied to anything
so you get best practices for engineering, maths, physics, science, etc that have been defined over time
field specific stuff
Maybe. I never used it before and didn't hear it used much. I might have a blindspot, but tbh I fail to see why the distinction is necessary. Again, it makes me think it as a vehicle for ppl to think they are "media literate" whatever that might mean
being media literate seems to me like a term describing an obscene amount of knowledge about and on media
could also describe the media literacy part, i.e. applying critical thinking to media to reach the objective truth
I love semantics
Sure. Then we come back to "were ancient Greeks media illiterate?". They didn't have obscene amounts of media knowledge
for people who the way you described it's a very unhealthy way of looking at it though, I will admit
philosophers come to mind
they would likely be
But they didn't have a lot of media to process. Very little actually. Modern 6yo kid has more access to media probably and compound exposure to media.
So, if ancient greeks are media illiterate
Would you call their writings and stories media illiterate?
they did have language tho
and they wrote texts
this seems to be arguing that if media literacy as a term/thing/condition/whatever wasn't invented in ancient greece then they didn't have it, but that's just not true
things don't start or stop existing as you make up names for them
No, I am trying to posit if they were or weren't media literate
Because if they were, that means media consumption or amount of media knowledge is irrelevant to media literacy
From my point of view, I don't see much reason for it to exist tbh
Which is why I am questioning its existence
it's similar to physical fitness, you never don't have physical fitness, you only ever have n amount of it
Ok, nice analogy. I can work with that
So, can we call media literacy media fitness then?
media fitness makes a bit more sense to me tbh
Physical fitness is a compound metric. Technically it's not necessary, because it can be described through stamina, agility, strength etc
So there is no need for physical fitness to exist. Except to vaguely define a general level of quality of physical state of the body
I don't think I used word fitness much, but I can see why it might be useful
The problem with media fitness it that it is even more vague
is critical thinking also compounding?
No, critical thinking is a defined thought process
It consists of steps, but it's is not a collective term
does critical thinking also require general knowledge?
No, it's a function of a brain. It uses knowledge to improve results
ok
let's say
you want to analyse for example a study
but
you're not aware of the systems that facilitate funding a study, you don't know about scientific journals, and you have no clue what meta analysis is
how do you critically assess and reach the objective truth without having the knowledge of the systems the rule it?
I would rather not use "objective truth" either. Seems also meaningless to me. Maybe call it a main idea or something
why not?
All the truth is subjective. It's just an asymptote that never reaches said "objective truth"
I don't get it
is this a case for "all perceptions are subjective therefore nothing's real"
No, it's more like "everything is a product of our mind"
oh u said asymptote not assumption
NEW word
but coming closer to the objective truth is still important I think
honestly I will get more educated about this and come back to you at a later time
Hard to say. Sometimes opposite is more useful. There is no discerning quality behind "objective truth".
it's difficult as is to talk about something that has a vague enough definition/s without fully understanding the subject
feel like I'm missing something
and I honestly expected you to have your own idea of what media literacy is, considering its recent virality in online pop culture
err which angle are you taking here, something like having an open ending in a story?
More like it requires meta thinking. Which is thinking about thinking, and since the term is self reflective it's in constant state of self updating
But I can assume the objective truth as a Grail of knowledge, having an intrinsic value. Putting simply, something we want to know as an ultimate knowledge, that has unquestionable usefulness which doesn't degrade with further insight
I see
when I say objective truth I mean it in reference to a piece of media
as in, what's the intent behind [article] and how did this [journalist] miscounstrue the truth
"Spy x Family" TV ANIME SEASON 3 NEW TRAILER REVEAL!
︀︀
︀︀Air Date: Oct. 4, 2025
︀︀Animation Studio: WIT STUDIO × CloverWorks
︀︀
︀︀ED: "Actor" by Rira Ikuta
︀︀
︀︀Based on the popular Slice of Life x Action Romance Manga by Tatsuya Endou
or in reference to a fiction novel, what was the [character's] true intent, why did a [character] make these decisions, or maybe even what did the [author] really try to convey
Yeah, it's still pretty vague. Because the intent behind an article is manifold. The intent of an author can be different from intent of an editor.
Investigative journalism is a good example
Journalist might want to uncover the truth, editor might want to follow a political agenda etc
Ok, so the main function is basically knowledge extraction
Specifically from media
I agree that it involves a multitude of thought processes, not just critical thinking.
In that frame I can accept media literacy. The problem is, such extracted knowledge is almost never definite and there is no known way to me to prove that the knowledge you extracted is any better than the knowledge other person extracted.
The trailer literally shows nothing important, very good
They managed to not spoil one of the biggest arc of this series so far
Concerning novels, there is value in different opinions. Often, an extracted knowledge has little relevance to the author's intent or idea but is still valuable due to unusual or new perspective, even if it is far from truth
Which is why even if the person is wrong, their take is good. So, sometimes a 6yo child can provide an interesting insight. At which point media literacy is not useful to describe insight
So I guess my main point is, media literacy shouldn't be used to discard insights, even if they seem wrong. There is often value in the lens through which the person looked at the subject
ITS ALMOST BACK
Also I assume you asked where he is, he is sometimes in a night club in the market area late in the day. He is not always there and there are unlock conditions which I don't quite remember
Late in the day?
Evening or night, not sure exactly
He is on an upper floor, you need to do some mini quest below to get there
Missing "i" at least
Nope. We're not entering that territory, EVER.
We can skidaddle around
Back again with my experience with my Japanese lessons place:
The kanjis is getting harder and harder to be remembered
After learning kanjis of food, sizes, days, now it's the activity
Like the kanji for writing, seeing, doing, etc
Do you write them down as well? Helps a lot, since you remember how exactly kanji are written. Also many of them could be considered a puzzle of sorts: a composite of small hieroglyphs, each adds to the meaning or phonetics. There are tools that let you decompose kanji into structural parts that describe how those parts are derived from basic kanji and how they produce the eventual meaning
In my lesson place? Nope, they didn't do it nor the source material that they provide doesn't have the section to write kanjis
For example kanji for "station" has "horse" hyeroglyph inside, because initially stations were carriage stops
You could just search for tools that let you analyze kanji structure and supplement it yourself. The tool is free
I remembered that one IG account that teaches the viewers kanji and how it was written approximately 1000 years ago
Like how "fun" (楽) is actually about "music" a long time ago
Nope, it was both words for the meaning of 楽
Yeah, it's partially like that. But you can simply start from decomposing kanji into radicals. Jisho.org has such functionality
You can click on each part and see further meaning and try to guess how they work. It's harder, when parts are there for how they sound, not what they mean
But how it was written a long time ago is a man holding out a set of musical bells and shaking his hands out, making him doing "music" and having "fun"
駅
Hmm, idk if Memrise app is still there but there were learning collections there for any lvl n5 to n2 that go deep into explaining each kanji and how they are built. Might try looking there
Actually nowadays you can ask AI to tutor you. It can explain all the meaning
DeepSeek has a good free plan that is not too limiting
Just as an example
only problem is you have no clue if the AI isn't hallucinating
unless you're an expert in the language
Uhh, I think you're supposed to post the results for AI, not the process lol
Yo cave, how is the government doing in your country?
It's pretty rare for basic learning materials that have a lot of representation on the Internet. You can explicitly command AI "Avoid hallucinating. If not sure, say 'Not available information' instead of inventing stuff. Be rigorous". You can remove 99% of hallucinations
Adding something like "Stick to factual information and verified data" etc almost guarantees no fictional facts
Also can ask to provide likelihood or credibility values for statements, to make AI more rigorous at evaluating truthfulness
LOL
what is this question
Sorry for going out of topic so suddenly lol, just wondering, seeing how the french government collapses
it's ok, we will not collapse for the next 15 years at least, statistically speaking
does this work for any AI?
Right after the day I said that the french accent makes me laugh
If you want result, here
But you can specify the output format to AI too, if it's too long or too short. I wish I had such a learning tool in my student years
Also, the prompt is a key, which is why I posted the exact prompt wording
Any Reasoning model AI
So pretty much most prompt based AIs like Grok, Claude, ChatGpt, DeepSeek, Qwen etc
wha t about Microsoft Copilot
Afaik, it's also reasoning model AI. You can always cross-check the output in other AIs if not sure
Nani ga suki has just expanded its lore lol
Generally, telling them to be rigorous and strict is enough to make AI to examine facts more thoroughly before presenting facts. I once had AI reason for 6 PDF pages just how to answer me, trying to prove or disprove their own thinking. The answer itself was 30 words
JFC this goes on for so lojng 😭
Two and a half minutes
If you want, you can ask me in DMs, there are a lot of efficient tricks to AI Prompting to get quality results
nice, I will keep it in mind
I DMed you a further input on media literacy. I would say, I kinda misunderstood the concept and I agree that Media literacy is necessary
I always feel like I've taken some sort of drug whenever I see a conversation with timelime in it
Idk what drug it is, but it's definitely a drug

An example of a Battle algorithm they are patenting
Not just logic, but very broad logic
it's ok, just copy this and change 1 thing, no one can sue you now
They can sue on per claim basis. And the claims themselves are pretty vague.
I do wonder, I don't think there has been a JP company as greedy as Nintendo, what happened to them?
Being successful and millions of fans of their products, that don't care even about how the company works with its own fanbase
Like, Nintendo cucked Switch 2 buyers with subpar screens, with refresh rates worse than previous gen and nobody cared
The refresh rates are so bad, the screen physically refreshes at 30 fps in non performance mode
20 year old TFT monitors are not this bad
its also cuz they kinda have a monopoly, they really dont have much competition in the handheld space so they can get away with a lot of the things they are doing now
By who

You know what's interesting: there is often city sewage systems depicted in western cartoons, like in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or marvel or DC Comics. But I can't remember a case of anime using city sewers extensively in a story. It's especially interesting, that most of the anime takes place in Tokyo, and Tokyo being the biggest metropolitan area in the world must have massive sewers. And I never encountered even a hint of how it works in anime
Pretty extensive Sewer section of the story
I meant Tokyo specifically, compared to New York
I'm pretty sure it's New York a lot of the time because it's famous for the subways and sewer systems beneath the streets
Tokyo is known for its extensive sewers as well?
Well, that's the point. Tokyo is the biggest metropolitan area, so its sewers must be massive to accommodate all that population and area. Biggest in the world = interesting already, which is why I am curious it's not represented in anime.

"Expelled From Paradise: RAKUEN TSUIHO -Liberated from Paradise-" Sequel Movie New Trailer
About to start Fruits Basket, I will give a reaction every 5 episodes

Ngl, this is in top 3 josei anime of all time easily. Last season is something
Cut short because I need to bring my aunt to a wedding and need to wait for her to go back as well
First episode reaction: I was stunned to see that there isn't an opening, just immediately entered the story. I already know there wil be a bit of love triangle, since Tohru is a dog chinese zodiac want to become a cat chinese zodiac, that attracts Shigure but pushes away Yuki, but I think there will be a turnabout for Yuki later on
You will see, it has one of the best character writing in the anime media
I think I know what my friend mean about Fruits Basket, for the traditional game, I already know from the friend as well, but the anime itself, I'm starting to understand it myself just by the first episode, the philosophy of the anime is that Tohru is essentially a normal fruit in a basket full of eccentric food, she will be in the conflicts of super powers while being powerless herself, she will never be truly accepted in that basket itself
Damn the art goes hard
Is this the water magic isekai series?
Ngl forgot it existed
No its exiled from 100 different world (or something like that) series
Tsuihousareru Tabi ni Skill wo Te ni Ireta Ore ga, 100 no Isekai de 2-shuume Musou

I wonder how the author will make it through all 100
Yeah man, its been really good so far
I hope the author wont fumble it
100 worlds is no small number
I hope the manga won't get axed
please don't get axed
there will be time skipping, there must be
Its based on LN so i think it will still serialized as long as the LN still alive
My only problem with the mc ||why the fuck he still act like a teenager whenever a girl coming close to him||
Apart from that, its very good series
that's the opposite of how it seemed to me
