Also I'll say, while Korra's story had its issues, its villains were really good (again, aside from Season 2 )
Opponents that challenged the need for an Avatar and whether the Avatar helping the current system was their best use was a good antithesis for a "peace time" setting

Kuvira in Season 4 I especially like because, well, she's not exactly wrong She's just a case study for why typically we try and avoid military figures in civilian positions ("When you have a hammer, everything looks like nails" kinda thinking)

Well, there was that episode about the vengeful old woman who taught katara how to use blood bending

I think that one was probably one of the more horrifying ones to watch as a kid, but not for anything visceral

The show itself isn't overtly "violent" and doesn't really show injury outside of the classic little dirt spots and things

And most injuries are played up as jokes/non-serious like when kids are fucking around outside and someone gets knocked on their ass and gets scraped up then goes back to playing like nothing happened lol

The writing for the character development, communication, and emotional impact and changes on everything is more where that show shines, outside of the insanely fluid and dynamic animation ofc

Very rare for me to recommend an on-going anime, but four episodes in and I can already say To Be Hero X is one of the best shows I've seen in a long time and easily my anime of the season 👀

TL;DR: In a world where heroes are powered by peoples' trust and villains by peoples' fear (as in literally their powers are shaped by what people believe about that person), the MC is an office worker dragged unwillingly into the world of superheroes as he struggles his way up the hero "leaderboards". Mixes in a lot of real life entertainment industry concepts like media campaigns and branding w/ the world of superheroes for a really unique take on the genre.

• Going to be 24 episodes long, consecutive (so there's still 5 more months of episodes to look forward to)
• Seamless mix of 2d and 3d animation
• Soundtrack by the legendary Sawano Hiroyuki (Attack on Titan, Gundam, Solo Leveling, 86, etc.)
  Also...
• Has an insanely good English dub. As in "Holy shit, how is this only this guy's fourth role as a named character?" good

Persona 5 is pretty bad too

I know it's not mainly a "story" game, but the way the writing was handled there pretty much ruined 90% of the impact the writing could've had

this is why the anime sucked, game hard carry with awesome visuals and then everything else flopped

I want to say that Persona games typically shine with character storylines, whether main cast or background characters like that politician

but even those are a hard sell for me

The game explores themes that are somewhat taboo in Asia, like underage crime, abuse, some typical Asian problems words for which are banned here and I can't be bothered to work around them. Western AAA games would never even get close to such topics

The problems are so underreported and swept under, that games that manage to portray them properly like Yakuza, Judgement, Persona are massively popular in Jpn

Tbh, all the 5 persona games are very different. P3R is definitely worth a try. For me personally it has an ideal balance of all elements including length

Tbh, I would argue that Persona 5 is where Japanese JRPG gaming peaked, if you look at it as a sum of all elements. It took a downgrade in some aspects that Atlus games are known for, for the wider reach, but the result is ultimately more balanced than anything Japanese industry has to offer

Funny enough, Persona is literally like Elder Scrolls series. 1st game noone remembers because nobody can play it. 2nd game has way too many things to offer, but is a mess because it's doing multiple things at once. 3rd game is the ultimate go-to if you want to get the OG experience and a taste of what the series were meant to be. 4th game is solid improvement in every aspect, but a bit unassuming and undaring. 5th game in the series is probably the best for most ppl and overall upgrade of experience

The plots begin to diverge significantly after the Monster Association arc

With anime, I think an argument could be made that new production tools/resources could let you do something you couldnt before, or if you were limited by the source material not being finished (like in FMA), you could claim that too. But with a manga, I feel like it could be seen as basically admitting "I messed up" by trying to do a remake since it doesnt really have those excuses.

Actually, I remembered something a bit like Monogatari. "Sankarea". It has decently strong Monogatari vibes imo. Also It has a weird episode release order, there are some prequel episodes, that are good for understanding, that were released later

Tbh, it was way more original, before Japan made it main stream. Alchemy experiment gone wrong, Bermuda triangle, simply turning a corner in a wrong way and crossing into 4th dimension then, there were a bunch of teleportations gone wrong in SciFi too

I also don't really think MAL watcher numbers is a fair metric to use in any debate tbh. Older series will inherent have an advantage but that's not all. Solo Leveling is something that appeals a lot more to the newer generation of Anime watchers. I don't know if this true but since Anime has become significantly more mainstream the actual % of Anime watchers who use sites like MAL has gone down. Newer Anime converts tend to be a lot more casual about it (not that being casual is bad or that casuals don't use MAL) and won't take the time to mark that they've watched a show.
