It gets my adrenaline going during the performances cuz you just KNOW any one of these kids can fuck up. The rivalry these kids have is pretty amusing by manga standards. But the character progression keeps me on damn well nice. For both the female and male lead respectively.

But when it wants to nail some emotional impact it tends to deliver very nicely.

I also appreciate how it tries to acknowledge child psychology fairly seriously. Esp when these kids get anxious and how they receive what their instructors are trying to convey to them.

The movement on the animation was so good I'm not surprised it was through mocap

That was the kind of animation I was hoping for with 3D before stuff like beastars appeared, but this was a lot smoother and a lot more akin to the usual anime style we see in 2D which was really nice

Was on the swim team for a little, but never went anywhere with it
