Actually, a lot of the fights were resolved through clever use of surroundings, items or knowledge which is quite rare for shonen not through sheer will and stubbornness. That's what I also liked in SAO, though it has more of the latter too

But the author is simply too good, so they are not only juggling multiple ideas and narratives there, but also separate character casts (shogi players and normal human beings of Japan). Which is insane to me in a good way. That's a level of writing skill you don't often see even in literature

Funny enough, Bookworm's manga is taking a really interesting approach. They're adapting several parts in it simultaneously (cause otherwise it'd take a decade+ to adapt the whole thing)

i've done this for in the land of leadale (my personal favourite), so i'm a spider so what (lame ending) and reincarnated as a sword (can't wait to read the next volume)
I forgot to mention spirit chronicles as well, but it wasn't one of my favourites to read about as it all just kinda revolved around kidnapping nobles and royalty who can't protect themselves.
i dont think i spoiled anything by saying that, but it was just so wordy and repetitive i kinda lost interest once i caught up to the 24th volume
