How they wanted me to approach it: Carefully implement each shape's formula to figure out the size of each shape, cutting out the overlapping bits from my calculations.

How I did it:
"Well, this line is 1m... I'll make notches in my pencil of the same size, and use those to make a grid of 1m squares... then just count how many squares are filled up"

...got the right answer to .1 accuracy
