if you look at the right bottom corner, there are tokens, that are gained throughout the battle. Usually 3 types, when you use a triplet of any type, it produces a different type of attack. The point is the management of these tokens, so that you have triplets you need at appropriate times (some triplets give you avade or other protection, some are DPS triplets etc). Token type is random, but you can use any single token at any time, by which you can produce a stack of tokens you want

more depth (to me) means stuff like being able to block and deflect, stun, throw airborne, use buffs and debuffs, comboing different elemental attacks to get a desired effect

but I can see that the token amanagement adds some strategy to the mechanics, which I like

I am once again asking everyone to please watch Synduality: Noir. Great show that's on it's second cour and is pretty much untalked about. Part 2 has been going crazy on the stuff introduced at the end of Part 1. I will admit that in terms of overall plot Part 1 does lag behind Part 2 so it does kinda drag for a bit at the start and despite being somewhat tropey it does almost all of it's tropes well so it's an enjoyable experience.
