We watch the world around Evia and Luna fall apart, confused where all the gods who normally interacted with humans are, and realise that the war we think is stopping them from interacting is actually already over and worse is to come

The major difference is usually a religion is between you and a deity, not you and another person. No lone person claimed christianity existed, and God as a deity to follow is fully up for you to decide to follow. Cults are different, because its usually a sole person telling you that they were chosen by god or that their god is the right god, and to follow THEM. Cults are often more dangerous, taboo, and restrictive in their rules than religions as well.

Well, yes, but the difference is this.
Looking at Chrisianity, you have the flow of God, priest, followers. Followers go to the priest to hear the word of their god, and these followers follow what they believe god's word is. These people do not need to rely on this preacher to spread the word, they can spread the word themselves or read their bible alone. They have full choice in what they do, and their belief is purely between them and God.

Looking at Mormonism, though they say God is above all, the hierachy is mainly between their "Prophet" and the people. This Prophet tells his people to follow HIM and HIS word, as well as Joseph Smith's word (the founder of Mormonism) in hopes to meet God after death. He preaches for his people to follow his own strict rules and to treat him like royalty as he's the "Prophet" that God sent. In this "religion," people lack the ability to decide things for themselves, having the majority of their life in close relation with their "prophet" to build a connection with their deity. They are also often forced to spread the word of their "prophet," fearful they wont go to heaven if they dont
