See, in Natlan's timeline, we only know of Natlantea and Natlan but there's a civilization sort of "between" those two that we don't know of

Like, Natlantea was the civilization of the Dragons before the Primordial One
When PO came, it was "destroyed" more or less and then came the civilization of humans and the Angels, but that civilization was not Natlan
Then the Dragons came back and destroyed that civilization and well we know the rest of Natlan's timeline already
Its sort of like how Remuria wasn't exactly the "first" Fontaine civilization, because there was a civilization that Sybilla used to protect that was destroyed alongside its Irminsul tree

In fact, if you flip one of the "wings" on the home symbol upside down you get something very similar to that. Again, idk if its intentional I just wanted to point it out||

Even as someone who's favorite region to explore was Sumeru, both the forest and the desert, I do agree with the complaints that people had. For example, navigating without an underground map was the biggest pain in the ass, especially when using the compass to find chests

BUT I feel like Fontaine was perfectly toned down for both the people that didn't like Sumeru exploration and those that did. They should have stuck with that "formula" they had for Fontaine imo, but with Natlan and Nod-Krai they dumbed down exploration significantly...
I mean more so Nod-Krai than Natlan, for example I'm not a fan of the Nod-Krai world quests in the slightest, I miss the quests that had actual emotional impact as well as lore, but now the NPCs are all boring and forgettable, I miss NPCs like Jeht, Caterpillar, Zhiqiong, Mamere etc...
