As far as how I feel about the characters in NK so far
Columbina ||has been pretty good all around. Most of what she’s done has been pretty carefully handled and developed to a point where I really appreciate it.||
Rerir, ||I was especially satisfied by seeing what’s become of him. It’s such a fitting catharsis given everything we got on him prior. Idk if he’s ever going to be a part of the main story again, but I don’t mind if this is the last we see of him (and by extension Tholindis) for a good while.||
Sandrone ||has overall been pretty consistent. You can kinda make a case that they don’t really commit to her being antagonistic, but it honestly checks out even as far as the same early story role stuff she’s had, as well as her own personal interests. Her relationship with Columbina is easily one of the most entertaining dynamics, but it’s also very bittersweet.||
Wanderer ||was fun to see mostly bc of how much you’ve seen him grow since Sumeru. Both in how much he consoled Durin, how he was gaslighting his former Harbinger colleagues into thinking he was a totally stranger, but even the prorities he set for himself when it came to facing Dottore. He never got to directly face him and kill him like he wanted (even if he had a chance to try so but saved Aether instead). He did however play a huge (if not maybe the most important) role in ultimately helping ensure his downfall through total trust, which I can vibe hard with.||
Dottore||….im not even disappointed by. Intrigued at best. And I think he’s got the makings of what could eventually be a pretty solid antagonist, but it still feels like we haven’t gotten enough for him to ‘get there’ quite yet. But he’s quite interesting if you look at him past a surface level with everything shown in how he acts and behaves, especially with how he was trying to sway the Traveler. If this is the last we see of him (which I hope is not the case and doubt), then it’d be pretty disappointing. But if there’s more to come given a good number of setups and longtime foreshadowing, I’ll look forward to it even more. He just feels like someone I can make a total take on just yet.||
||Feel like the worst you can possible say so far is that they don’t directly showcase Varka much as a warrior as you’d prolly like. He was at least a charismatic leader and planner, and still contributed in the sidelines but stayed out of the frontline spotlight himself, which was kinda weird but idk. His disguise and how he gets along with everyone (especially Nicole) has been great besides that.||
I do feel like more can be done with Flins, ||but he’s honestly great comic relief otherwise. Bonus points it was fun to see so many old and new characters interact and even playing various roles, be it big or small. So I hope we get more of this kinda thing in future MSQs.||
