tbh, i might have to go with people who have rescued a kitten or are looking to rehome a kitten, the only shelter that really has kittens/cats and quite a bit of em, is actually hella strict for my family, theyre making it harder

like they might not accept cuz im on the 4th floor, and they wont accept when i move out to my other house cuz its in a village (even tho my cat will be o n l y indoors and i WILL give em flea meds if needed) and stuff like that

im only allowed to use the vets they use, i also have to constantly send pics, and it just makes stuff harder on my family

plus considering i never had a pet before im afraid they dont trust me either from what it seemed

tho i really loved one of the cats there i seem to be unable to adopt from that shelter (i was put in with cats for 30-40 mins to see how i react and how i do)

(it was like throwing me into a pit with affectionate toddlers and some lil evil baby in there that keeps wanna bite me xdddd)

(yeah, it was my first time touching a cat too for more than 0.1s)

Since you've never had a pet cat before, I'd try to read up on things such as cat behavioral patterns, what health problems different breeds may have, and- if you DO go and try finding a kitten- be aware that you will also be dealing with trying to teach that cat what is or isn't appropriate behavior in a positive and constructive manner. Cats, although it depends on their personality, can sometimes like to be very independent and like to have sociable moments with you on their own time (if you get an adult cat instead of a kitten). And if you get a kitten, you'll want to prepare to be able to give it the attention it needs as it grows and know that the kitten could be destructive and do things like rip up your furniture and such in an attempt to remove the caps to it's claws when they're loose and/or other behaviors that may be allocated to something else like a scratching post. They're adorable pets but just like any animal, they can take work to raise in your home, so I'd do research on the costs and needs of cats before I'd adopt one- but that's just my two cents on the matter

yep! gotcha! thanks for the concern, ive dedicated actually the past 2 months to just knowing for sure i can handle cats and specifically kittens if i wanna go with em, im aware of their behavior, and their destructive behavior too, i also heard that cats get also more affectionate and cuddly as they grow up but well when theyre kittens they need more playtime-, ill have months off at the time i get my kitten before i go to university which seems enough until the cat grows up (and theres quite a high chance my college is gonna be online for lectures and physical only for workshops which frees up plenty of hours for me ; D), i have realized with my visit to the animal shelter that i certainly am not removing the fact i might adopt an older than 6 months old cat now, cuz my god i just fell in love with these creatures (not only stuck on the fact i wanna watch the kitten grow anymore xd), my main plan tho is to try to adopt a 2-3 months old kitten, preferably not 2 months cuz thats still at a time they need their mom.. but my country really feels tough sigh

my biggest obstacle really is just my parents, and my fear that we might be allergic, we seemed hella fine, and chill around the cats but my parents say o t h e r w i s e and that we're allergic, feels like an excuse but we're going a second time to check (my parents will do lab testing cuz they dont wanna get close to the cats LOL)

It's good your parents will be tested, it'd be terrible if one of them was allergic to cats and you brought one into the home. My own mother has an allergy to cat dandruff and can struggle to breathe if she's around them for too long so we never got to have cats

i know this is late, but there are a few cat breeds that are almost hypoallergenic. they produce less of the protein that causes the allergies , also good if they dont shed too much. russian blues are a good example id say.

This is my first post and cat haha 😄 he was born with an eye defect that makes him near sighted and my husband/I adopted him Dec 1st. He's only 4 months old! Very sweet and cuddly, any suggestions for what he might have? The vet didn't give us details/neither did the rescue/humane society know what he has.
