#advice for hosting personal custom modpacks?

sup guys i was wondering if anyone who has experience making their own personal modpacks and hosted a server for it? i wanna learn how to optimize it and stuff (easier ways to track bugs/glitches like spark, finding the right optimization mods (i have embeddium and other stuff related but ik theres other mods that are more focused on specific issues (etc. mods from someaddon), if you guys have used datapacks to adjust structure spawn frequency or found mods that can help you do that, etc.

here are some issues I'm facing right now.

  • based on curseforge i have 344 mods but once loaded, it says about 400 (just for reference)
  • i'm using bisect to host my server which is loaded with 8 gb of memory and hosted in my home city
  • view distance is set to 10, sim distance is 5
  • when playing, there are freezes when i open up inventory, click on certain items in inventory, some interactions with crafting tables, furnaces etc.
  • theres freezes when picking up items (i am also using item physic full)

some approaches i made to solve these issues

  • tested how stable the modpack is in singeplayer with each added mod
  • tested optimization mods (idk if having too much is bad or if it makes the other perforamnce mods redundant)
  • adjusted spawn rates of configurable mob-focused mods
  • added datapacks to adjust structure distribution (ex. when dungeons arise - spacing tweaks; fyi idk how to make datapacks)

current perfomance/optimization mods in my modpack

  • saturn (general memory optimization?)
  • smooth boot
  • canary (server optimization?)
  • neruina - ticking entity fixer (i saw this like delete entities when it affects tps badly, is that accurate?)
  • ftb quests optimizer
  • mobtimizations (i have no idea what this does specifically for mobs tbh)
  • fast ip ping
  • embeddium (general fps optimization)
  • spark (diagnostic tool)
  • clumps
  • ferritecore (rendering optimization?)
  • immediately fast (idk if this is the same as smooth boot listed above)
  • connectivity (does this help connecting to my server or like maintain a stable connection?)
  • farsight
  • login protection (is this for when people log in and protect them until they actually load in)
  • better fps - render distance
  • fix gpu memory leak
  • better chunk loading
  • client crafting (does this help with the freeze issue when you open up the crafting table?)
  • leaky - item lag (idk if this fixes the freeze issue when you pick up items)
  • server performance - smooth chunk save
  • fast async world save (i have no idea what this does tbh)
  • noisium (rendering optimization, idk if having this and ferritecore is good)
  • entity culling (idk what this does)

reason i ask the questions in each parenthesis is because i would test each optimization mod to fix a particular issue and i have no idea if it actually works or not.

ex. i notice freezing when picking up an item. i install a potential mod that could fix this issue (leaky - item lag) why this mod? ima be honest its because it has a lot of downloads from other people. i test it, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt but how would i know? how do modpack authors confirm if the modpack is stable and such like that for servers. that's generally what my goal is (knowing how to measure performance so i could have a decent experience on my modpack on a server with my friends)

i also dont know if this list of mods is too much optimization? i saw in other forums and discussions that having too many optimizations will honestly make some mods redundant and affect stability

having too many performance mods isnt bad

#

its just you've chosen a ton of really bad performance mods that break your game

#

if you send your modpack zip i can optimize it for you when im free later

zenith pivot
#

oh wow really

#

i can send you a code for my modpack on curseforge

loaded mods =/= amount downloaded because some mods have library mods internally, which will load them as well.

freezing when opening inventory and interacting with tables/chests are signs of server tps dropping, spark is usually the best one to help diagnose this

#

you can also alternatively try building your pack off performatic maybe, or using the mods performatic uses, since its got most of, if not all of the performance mods we use in there

are there any red flag performance mods that u guys see on my last that i shouldnt of had used? @foggy skiff @pure stirrup

#

you dont even have modernfix

#

ill get you an optimized zip soon, been busy the last few days

#

you had both trinkets & curios installed for some reason lol

heres all of the changes, scroll to bottom for all mods removed:

#

if you have any questions lmk

zenith pivot
#

omg tysm @foggy skiff i really appreciate it

#

oh and for the removed mods, can you explain why they were removed? are the perfomance mods that were removed the bad ones and the other content mods like unstable?

#

like enhanced celestials i like that mod

#

but if it was an unstable mod then i understand, ill look for an alternative

foggy skiff
#

and the performance mods i removed are the bad ones yeah

ah ok
