#essential doesnt work
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
The Essential mod is completely incompatible with all of our modpacks, and there's no reason to use it. All of our modpacks already come with built-in, free world hosting, by clicking the "Share World' button in the Open to LAN menu. You can learn more by typing !ws in the #bots channel. You can also run type !server in the same channel to learn how to properly host a server for better performance and more flexibility. In modpacks that aren't owned by us, you can use mods such as e4mc or WorldHost to host a server completely for free without Essential's many issues and crashes and the microtransactions that they constantly bother users with. To learn more about alternatives to the Essential mod, check out this website.
ty so much
not entirely
honestly I'm worried about being banned for this, but not allowing essential seems really weird to me. I'm not going to say how, but there is a way of using it.
how is it weird
we already have free world-sharing in the modpack
why would we allow people to use a mod that has repeatedly corrupted peoples worlds & is full of shitty microtransactions
lol
I've never encountered problems with it, the mtx are 100 percent ignorable, and the world hosting has, in my experience, been 100 percent more stable and easier to work with than the included one
then host a server on your own pc
!server
Paid Method
We suggest renting a server from Bisect Hosting:
Approx. $10 - $25 a month depending on what plan you choose. You can also get 25% off with Code LunaPixel.
Go here and order a plan which fits you. We suggest 1GB per player but nothing lower than 4GB as the server needs at least 3GB to run.
Go to #server-hosting for more Info!
Free Method
To host a server on your own computer, read the selfhosting guide.
This guide goes over how to install, create, and launch a free Minecraft server on all operating systems (MacOS, Linux and Windows). The guide also guides you through installing Java and optimizing your server for better performance.
If you are installing one of our older modpacks, ignore the "README" file that is included in the serverpack files, as they have outdated information.
I get not offering support for it, and maybe including a "hey we dont support essential so if youre having problems then we cant help" message
but the option to play the game when I installed it was removed
it was literally gone
yes then people ignore it & bypass it and still get world corruption lmao
used essential for several years, no world corruption
cool, that doesn't mean that others havent experienced it
I'm going to speak freely and say it seems weird because, no offence intended, the built in world hosting is worse, and sometimes unavailable. paired with the fact that you guys have sponsored servers, it does come off wrong imo, especially with the lengths taken to stop users playing with it. I'm all for supporting you guys because the modpack is amazing and I love it, if theres a patreon I'd be all for supporting you guys
if you have a problem with us having a sponsor (something that every modpack & modder has and is the main source of revenue for all modders) then surely you'd have a problem with Essential selling Minecoins for $80 to children
yeah that is bad
but again, there are ways around it
I dunno I guess I'm saying this cause I think that essential does a really good thing and I love how it plays with the modpack.
The mod having something that disables it and says "hey we dont support essential" makes sense
but theres literally a dependancy coded into the jar files now
so unless you edit that, you cant play with it
it seems like a really far gone length
im not trying to get on your asses though I know this comes off a bit.
and like, I do get it im not saying theres 0 problems
like seriously the modpack is fuckin awesome dude
me and my friend have spent ages on ad astra alone lol, its all merged so well
i try my best to give a solution to everyone issues in this server, if you take a look at my message count here you can see that
Shit can't be easy.
it matters to me to be able to listen to issues people experience on my projects and be able to resolve them and build solutions that work long-term
we have a mod being developed, for example, that provides a lot of idiotproofing to reduce user confusion + have a proper screen explaining why essential is incompatible
with this in mind
you can understand how it'd be difficult for me to tell people daily "your world is corrupted, your stuff is gone, and you won't be able to get it back because you wanted to play with your friends and didnt know the mod your favorite youtuber told you to use is poorly coded"
thats why the warning was added
I mean, I don't know if this is viable, but would it be possible to have a screen before the main menu, providing essential be detected, to contain a disclaimer that support is unavailable for issues? And to mention the monetary problems?
for a while, it was easily bypassable because the share world button on the main menu added by Essential was still there and ppl could still press it
and then we'd still get those reports
Kind of like a "by playing with this you understand we aren't responsible for your world's getting corrupted"
thats why i dont want it to be bypassable, because for a while it was and it still caused problems
thats what we had already & ppl still joined the server and complained
I mean, what I'm saying is reasonable but.. I'm not accounting for people who just tend not to read important things....
i'd rather deal with people confused about the warning than having ppl lose worlds they've spent hundreds of hours on
