you guys tend to forget that there are digging and building mobs, creepers can go flying and explode at obstacles in their way and there are mobs that spawn vexes upon death and those are not fun to fight in tight spaces..

never encountered digging mobs, vexes are easy to kill if you are in a big room (like in my castle) and creepers fall into the waterlogged spikes

That is correct. However, digging mobs can only dig below sea level (y=64), creepers can't jump in water, and can't spawn in the ocean. The only mobs that spawn in the ocean are drowned, the enderfishmen, and the greedy fish, of which only one can attack the player out of water. If you build walls (as a castle should) you can't be attacked

The easy answer for vexes is just don't get hit

i'll agree on the AI cheesing for sure, but also that's just one of charms of the game, you take that away and many people just get frustrated (or get pissed on a pixelated game) and then just stop playing it altogether...
