is there any reason in specific that the MrCrayfish version is better than the port?

the main reason is because the mod has been updated with some fixes that the unofficial port doesn't have

well, i sorta assumed it was since the last update was in june

the curseforge page also links to the mrcrayfish version

im hesitant because some people have goblin traders in boats & cages, replacing your mod with the official one might delete them

that's a reasonable concern

currently there's no major bugs with the unofficial port, but you should keep it until i figure out how to load end goblin traders with the official version
