All you have to be mindful of when trying to have two contraption into one: Dont glue the energy for the thing, that is moving the contraption, with the thing moving the contraption.

contraptions don't really like entities like "item frames" or filters, if you wnat to make them only pace a certain block, use the block a the item filter instead of a filter

there are multiple bossews if that helps and they range from easy to difficult to very difficult. if that is not enough of a challenge then you can choose hardcore ring when you start this gives you 7 curses and makes the game significantly harder

The pipe valve will be either a Flow or No Flow, you just need to turn it clockwise or counter clockwise

You should probably try turning it the other way if the valve is not turning the way you want it to

Like, we have a smeltery, those has 9 water wheels for it hidden behind the walls.
Then we have a potion bar that has its own 6 Water Wheels open on a self made river.
Our tree harvester still runs with electricity because I cant be bothered to do it, also running on water wheels.
