It's more about the amount of mods than the actual minecraft version ๐ Not all mods have updated to 1.18 yet, so while there are ~300 mods on 1.16 there are only ~180 mods on the 1.18 version. That's why it requires less RAM.

There are things you'd notice if you played both, like 1.18 having a temperature system and 1.16 does not. But mainly it's just the amount of content being different (1.16 having more mods and therefore more content).
Of course content comes at a cost, and unfortunately it is not possible to run this amount of mods with only 8GB total RAM.

Removing mods to compensate for lag is not efficient. You might as well play the 1.18 version then since you'd have to remove so many mods that 1.18 has equal content.

Yes, but odd thing Dynamic Lights wasn't even in the mod folder when I went to take it out.

Right it just works so well for an fps boost for me and shaders depend on it. Otherwise i probably wouldn't use it. I can see some entities, but its like everything around me like blocks are clear except for random blocks and things like some grass blocks are clear and some aren't it's weird.

Go into your video settings, there is a setting "enable fog". Make sure it's disabled.

Looking at user benchmark, it's extremely lacking all around, but there's only a limited amount of info I can go off of
Your ram is fine, so the next is the GPU/CPU, which in this case, it seems the GPU is to blame

I assume the person with the waystone unlocked crafts the bound scroll, probably uses it on the air to bind it to themselves, then gives it to the other person to consume, and unlock the waystones

Here's a little tidbit about it, all origin debuffs or buffs are limited to only vanilla items, so modded items aren't constrained to them
Well, depending on the crash it perhaps didn't create one. Then I'll take your latest.log.
Some of those constraints or buffs may change to include mod items and such, but atm, vanilla only so abuse it while it lasts, which may be forever :P

Yeah, there's also MutliMC you can try, a bit more configuration has to go into it first and the UI can be confusing at first glance, but it's an option of CF gives you issues

There is a keybind to open the book, and inside you can create spells by putting glyphs in order.
Glyphs are created in the glyph press and transferred into the book by right clicking with them.
All the recipes for the glyphs are in the Worn Notebook, the guide book for Ars Nouveau.

The thing is that a server usually logs everything. Did you check what the latest.log in the server's \logs folder says?
I mean, no matter the cause the server would log something like "Stopping server".

The modpack runs fine on other servers, so that's unlikely.
You can access your server's directory, right? Please go into the server's \logs folder, scroll down to the bottom and send the file called "latest".
A minecraft server has a very similar file-structure to singleplayer. There is a \config folder, a \mods folder etc. Including a \logs folder. It saves all logs.
Usually people who host a server use FileZilla to access the server's files.

Sometimes you can also access them on your host's website directly though (like you'd do on Nitrado or Bisect).

If you spawn in a desert then you have a problem. Otherwise try to get into water as quickly as possible.

@short moat Well, hm. There is an error but it's 1 hour before the log ended (so it's not the reason). Strangely enough the log doesn't say anything else. You can check in the same place where you found the \logs folder whether there is a \crash-reports folder.
Alright. Then I'd suggest to contact the customer support whether they know about such an issue with their servers.

Well, look. It was not an ordinary crash (otherwise there'd be a crash-report) and it was also not shut down properly (otherwise the latest.log would say so instead of just... ending in the middle). So one of the reasons I can think of is that your host had a power-outage which would've killed the server without any warning indeed.

@short moat Check on your host's website whether you have access to the CPU and RAM usage of your server. Perhaps you're running on 200% usage and the server just says "I'm outta here".

I know a couple of free hosting sites and all of them have the same issue. You just can't get proper equipment without paying for it.
RAM is easier to fix, just rent more. But CPU... if the host doesn't let you use a better one then there isn't anything you can do.
The best thing would be to host it at home :) LAN has its own issues, with some mods not supporting it.

Yeah, basically any mob that spawns in under the sky has a chance to become a apotheosis boss, they can drop some nice loot, but can be a pain to fight
If they get hit by lightning, they'll also have a name when you look at them

Their spawn is accompanied by a lightning strike, they are fully armored, usually with a shield as well, and they are named. You can't miss them, or mistake them as anything else.
"Skilled" monsters with particles are from the Champions mod.
Also, as much as I like all the structures, sometimes they seem to clump up. Like I'll be traveling and there'll be nothing, then there'll be structures from two or three different mods in close proximity

blocks breaking and creepy noises? I don't know about the blocks breaking sound. But I can tell you that the strange talking noises are from the fan-made enderman. Creepy bugger too
although, fan-made enderman not so creepy anymore, I am desensitized to it now. For my first month of playing this modpack though, it was freakout time every time I heard it.

If I was underground and I heard block breaking noises that I could not immediately identify, I would immediately suspect the worst, that there is a tier 4 or 5 dragon nearby that is tunneling its way out.

Another one says that an Addon isn't able to be install because it no longer exists... Can someone please help when you have the time? Either you transfer the enchantments onto a book or you get XP back by disenchanting it (stripping off the enchants into thin air).
Taking off enchantments onto a book will never give XP.
Can you make a 5 second video of you disenchanting an item?
If possible with 0-2 levels only, otherwise it'd be hard to see the difference in xp.

Due to how minecraft is setup, mods must be on both client and server. This is similar to many other games. Plugins are what can be installed only on the server because they use different ways to implement the custom content, while using vanilla mechanics and content.

All of our forge packs are decently heavy, my suggestion would be to try the fabric version of them if fps is an issue

You can also press shift (sneak) instead.
If you want to revert it to vanilla behaviour though you can do that by setting "CustomPickup" to false in the ItemPhysics config.

In the folder. You can right click your profile in the CurseForge launcher, press "Open Folder" and go to \config. Scroll down to the "ItemPhysics.json" file and edit it.

From what I know of, Tough as Nails seems to have way too fast of an overheat time, it's way too unbalanced and some biomes just make you instantly hot or cold
If you don't like it, delete the mod from your mod folder
Also yes, you can for this one, it crashes on launch, try removing fancy menu and drippy loading screen

Started watching a 1.18 series. Damn these caves. 1.16 medieval has better caves than vanilla Minecraft. But apart from the big lava lake caves they are nothing compared to what 1.18 produces.
Was this after allocating the 9gb of ram suggested in the video?
I love that 1.18 caves really go way day to the lower depths, makes cave mining a lot more fun

Probably horribly incompatible with all the stuff changing caves in medieval but playing with that did feel quite different. And now watching the video looks a lot like that.

Nope, they don't have the same mods
So I just setup a skeleton spawner in my test world. I have it setup with 5 skeleton spawners, one in each cardinal direction and one in the middle. Simple system where they just wash to the middle and fall into a hole with a platform made of hoppers just below the hole. Additionally, I set it up with a sword with looting VII, Scaverger III, and Knowledge of the Ages. In just 2 minutes and 54 seconds the skeletons began dying of entity cramming damage. At that time I killed them off with 4 swipes of my sword. 126 levels in one go.
Sadly, due to very short age of this test world, the difficulty has not yet ramped up. The difficulty, despite being set to hard, is still just at 2.25. In time, that will get up to about 3.3. That will significantly increase the experience gained because the skeletons will spawn with more equipment that they will drop.
I believe it goes without saying, I will be implementing this farm into all of my playthroughs from here on out.

You can force the issue with librarian villager trades. It may take a long time to do it, but it is possible if you can muster the dedication necessary. But who knows, maybe you get lucky and get all the correct trades on your first tries.

Open the item physics-common config. There is a "custom loot = true" line almost at the bottom. Set that to false to remove the item crouch looting
Be advised though that only better minecraft plus has create in it.
You can also just add it manually to Medieval minecraft. Doesn't break anything

When the server is overloaded it tunes it down automatically.
Don't click anything, or do anything if it's not responding. It's still loading I'm sure. I'll sometimes have that happen loading into multiplayer.

Cause a friend of mine thought it was a good idea to plant our minecolony on a meadow biome and now we have to travel alot to get dirt and the inventories of our colonist are always full of meadow dirt
which is actually unusable
the ONLY way to make it useful is use a hoe to make it into farmland and that turns into normal dirt

recipe in the just enough items(jei) overlay while in inventory, just search "canteen", but yeah, 6 leather in a bottle shape will get you there

LOL!!!! Not gonna lie man, I would update the modpack to remove the hot/cold thing. That seems to massively break the game in such a way as to make it unplayable for the majority; to the point where it is recommended the mod be removed.
Yeah, no clue why the devs made it so bad. 1.12 was not easy with TaN but it was playable.
Though you couldn't be outside in summer either. So unless I've played 1.18 myself I won't judge whether it's actually worse or the people just don't know how to deal with it.

It's about as bad as it in in rlcraft, in my experience. I think it does too much damage.
Maybe if I'm near lava or in the middle of a desert, I could understand the heat killing you.
In RLCraft you lived underground in summer and near campfires in winter. Until you got the underwear-armor stuff thing.
Maybe in a blizzard I could imagine the cold, but it goes too far.
Sounds about right. Had a campfire inside my house.
If it's not worse than RLCraft then it is playable. You only have to adapt to it until you got the right gear.

@indigo bloom in terms of making your own weapons in medieval minecraft, have you played with tetra? it's like tinker's construct except more fitting to the theme and less OP, you can customize weapons and etc

I do see a Survive mod in here and it has settings for thirst and hypothermia, etc. You may want to tamper with that.

I don't know for sure myself, sadly. In 1.16.5 v46 the temperature stuff is turned off by default.
I don't have experience with minecraft on servers, just use it locally. Locally you can do that. You back up your profile (I'm using curseforge) and then remove the mods from the duplicate to make sure it doesn't destroy your game.

So, okay, don't know I hadn't noticed this before, but it looks like if I a food item that brings my satiation to full, from 2.5 hunger or more, it applies 2 thirst damage. If this is going to be the case, I must disable the thirst.
I have a practical doubt about this heavy mod. I have 16GB of DDR4 RAM and I'm running a server for 2 people. How much should I allocate in client versus server?

I have mine set to 13, and I have seen this game eat up more than 10 of it, when I reload my mods during gameplay.(which is used to AFK farm in several different applications)
So the officials here state 8Gb is the minimum requirement, but I would say it is closer to 10.
Or, to be more specific, I would say 10 to 11 is the recommended.

Okay, instead of disabling thirst altogether, I am going to try and bump the amount of times I can drink from a canteen up. Because with food inflicting 2 thirst damage every time I eat, 3 is just annoying. I like the thirst mechanic, in fact I have built much of my gameplay around it. And I feel removing it entirely would take something away from the game. Ultimately, however, I feel that is not going to be good enough. But I am willing to give it a chance before I nuke it.
Okay, sadly, that did nothing. Set it to 15, canteen still only provides 3. Seems 3 is the max. RIP thirst mechanic.

One strategy is filling a traveler's backpack with purified water from a bucket
A few minutes purifying water buckets and you get hours of purified water
Its not the amount that is the problem, it is the constant grind. I already have a perpetual purified water source. Also, I feel I need to blear here, hours of purified water is now only minutes for me. since every time I eat, I get thirsty. I can drink to full hydration, eat something not even two seconds later, and now I am thirsty again. It is constant drinking now. And I am not okay with that.
Alternatively, I would accept removing the thirst damage from food. But I don't know how I would go about that.
