but you'd need to put it at the very bottom of the resourcepacks list

to prevent conflicts

if you want to do shaders you need to remove magnesium which could hurt performance

i think theres some optifine alternatives that allow shaders without also causing other potential issues but i have no experience w/ those

In order to use OptiFine, follow the steps below:
For 1.16.5 Forge: Remove Magnesium and Dynamic Lights Reforged, add OptiFine HD U G8 to the mods folder.
For 1.18.2 Forge: 1.18.2 comes with Oculus that gives you Shaders with 90% less load times. If you want to use Optifine then remove the Oculus, Rubidium and Dynamic Lights Mods then add Latest 1.18.2 OptiFine to the mods folder.

Optifine Issues are not Supported in the Github however it shouldn't be an issue asking in the Discord for help.

the normal 1.16.5 forge version is like completely lag free

1.16.5 has a 1.18 backport mod so it has all the features from caves & cliffs

Just play it like it's vanilla for now. Eventually you are gonna come across an item that piques your interest

Then you'll want to research on what does that item do, either by looking up the mod's curseforge page or pressing U while hovering over the item

when i started i just looked for structures, got a ton of loot, made a cool base in a mountain, set up a simple storage network, made a vanilla chicken & sugarcane farm, and kidnapped some villagers

hoglin farm would be a good idea early game if you chunkloaded it through FTB chunks menu in the inventory gui (you need to shift click a claimed chunk, when you see red lines on the chunk its chunkloaded). gives infinite food & leather which is necessary to fully upgrade backpacks
