took some googling around, but eventually it simply came down to deleting Magnesium, and installing Rubidium (https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/rubidium), which is essentially the same (a port of Sodium) but from other creator + Oculus (https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/oculus)
then just download the shaderpack you want and that's it

I'm an absolute idiot... I was using the javaw.exe instead of java.exe
For anyone having issues with starting up the 1.16 server with java issues, and they don't want to uninstall java 17, then just make sure you put your java 8 directory here in the .bat file (change to your own directory, it might be different to mine)
welp that didn't work but it's managed to just go ahead with it even after not pulling the correct java so idk what i've actually done to fix it

Is it worth switching to 1.18.2? Because going through the mod lists, I feel the only thing 1.18.2 has over 1.16.5 is the new terrain generation. If your on the 1.16 version, I don’t think it spawns anywhere else but the end ships. As for the end ship rarity, I don’t think it is very different from vanilla. Y’all might have just gotten very unlucky 😂

lol, just looked it up, apparently end cities only spawn in the End Highlands and End Midlands biomes which would explain why i havent seen any in the BYG biomes, it would also explain why they seem more rare

In order to use OptiFine, follow the steps below:
For 1.16.5 Forge: Remove Magnesium and Dynamic Lights Reforged, add OptiFine HD U G8 to the mods folder.
For 1.18.2 Forge: 1.18.2 comes with Oculus that gives you Shaders with 90% less load times. If you want to use Optifine then remove the Oculus, Rubidium and Dynamic Lights Mods then add Latest 1.18.2 OptiFine to the mods folder.
Optifine Issues are not Supported in the Github however it shouldn't be an issue asking in the Discord for help.
