In order to use OptiFine, follow the steps below:
For 1.16.5 Forge: Remove Magnesium and Dynamic Lights Reforged, add OptiFine HD U G8 to the mods folder.
For 1.18.2 Forge: 1.18.2 comes with Oculus that gives you Shaders with 90% less load times. If you want to use Optifine then remove the Oculus, Rubidium and Dynamic Lights Mods then add Latest 1.18.2 OptiFine to the mods folder.

Optifine Issues are not Supported in the Github however it shouldn't be an issue asking in the Discord for help.

I'm having this thing where one of the people playing on my server will play for days, and then suddenly the game won't launch anymore.

It freezes up a about 1/20th the way through the loading screen. The log never says the same thing at the moment it freezes. Just stitching textures and such.

Hello! To better diagnose your issue, please answer the following questions:

1. Have you modified the modpack in any way? (Adding/removing mods, changing configs, anything in the Resourcepacks menu)
2. What launcher are you using? (CurseForge, GDLauncher, etc)
3. What Minecraft version are you playing? (1.18.2, 1.16.5, 1.19)
4. What Java version are you using? (On Windows: press the windows key, search "Programs and Features", then search Java there)
5. When does the crash happen?
6. Have you ever gotten past the point where the crash happens?
7. Does a crash report generate? If so, send the file here. If not, is there an exit code? (On CurseForge, right click the instance, Open Folder, and go to the crash reports folder. Alternatively, post the log's text on mclo.gs and send the link here)
8. Did you follow the Performance guide in #better-mc-forge pins?

She even reformatted Windows about it last time and it worked for a while then just started happening again.

2 tried both vanilla and ATlauncher
3 1.18.2
4 java 1.8.0_341 (I think this is Java 8? It's hard to tell with Windows. I'm a Linux user team viewing a Windows computer lol)
5 while the pack is trying to start up street coughing okay in the launcher
6 yeah all the time then this starts

7 no crash report, just infinite freeze

I'm going to go read that performance guide to make sure it's all covered. And I'm just really unsure about the java situation

you're supposed to have java 17 to even run 1.18

I did install the adoptium jdk but her system is reporting 8 still

Is there like a Windows version of update alternatives --java?

i dont think its a java problem if you can even run the pack in the first place
