well actually, we don't call kebab doner. kebab is the general name of turkish meat dish for foreigners. shawarma is doner but it's, yk, arabic name of it

the word shawarma comes from the turkish word "çevirmek" (turn;rotate)

A good starting point for finding places to eat out might be searching for the term '精進料理' (しょうじんりょうり, written in romaji as "shoujin ryouri" but anglicized as "shojin ryori")

It's not impossible but as warhead says, finding food that hasn't even been seasoned with animal products, e.g. dashi can be difficult and expensive. Lots of home cooking at the end of the day. But lots of people still do it, so you need to track down people who share your lifestyle and find out what they do to get by.

It will also depend heavily on what part of Japan you're living in/visiting. Big cities will of course have many more accomodations for vegetarians than some rural situation.

When I cook low effort, naan they sell at the store is great as a makeshift flatbread. I usually keep fresh mozzarella around and when I have fresh basil, I could eat that alone.

Polished off the black truffle sauce over some lobster ravioli with a copius amount of fresh grated Parm.
While it's definitely a lot, it's needed to cut through the truffle flavor in the sauce.

Many truffle flavored things use a rather low quality "truffle oil" which is (sometimes artificially) infused oil, so I try to use things that say "truffle paste" on the label over oil because those tend to taste better, but also, it's still way too much. Truffle is a decadent and luxurious ingredient anyway, and is best used sparingly

For that i used:
Bacon
Breakfast sausage
Jalapenos

Awesome! Here ya go
Ingredients:
2 cinnamon sticks
Half a cup of long grain rice (or whatever u have on hand)
2 cloves of star anise (I personally like it with only one)
Can of condensed milk
Whole milk (I use 2% and it came out fine)
Vanilla Extract
Directions:
Add the cinnamon sticks, rice, and star anise to a pan and roast till they get fragrant (you dont want the rice to brown)
Add the mixture into a container and add 2 cups of water to it and let it sit for at least 6 hours
Add ingredients to a blender and add half a can of condensed milk (I suggest using less if u dont want it super sweet about a quarter can but its up to you it tasted good for me)
Add in a tablespoon of vanilla extract (I eyeball it lol)
Add a cup of milk
Blend until its nice and smooth (A tip, dont shred too much because when i did mine the cinnamon got too fine and it was hard getting out)
Strain the chunks through a colander, a cheese cloth works best but not many people have those just in their kitchens
Now add a cup of milk in the strained liquid if u want it creamier or water if u dont
Serve over ice

I recommended tweaking stuff to ur taste. I made a huge batch of this stuff and roughly doubled the portions and it came out great which was the cup i showed up there. Super tasty definitely good to have if its cold where u live

We cooked out hot dogs today and it got me to wondering what kinds of foods the average Japanese person commonly cooks up outside at BBQ type events in the park or backyard. All types welcomed to be mentioned but I'm mostly curious about the unusual things. I mean I recently learned of Mexican street corn on the cob that is slathered in mayonnaise and sprinkled with spices served here in Texas that is on the rise in popularity, but what food is on the rise in Japan? or is a staple food item for cookouts.

From what I understand, private BBQ ownership and use is not that commonly permitted. But people can still do it at parks, and there's obviously still a rich tradition of grilled foods in Japan, especially shellfish and skewers like yakitori.

Though given what you can accomplish with a small indoor tabletop grill (there's places all over just for doing this) I don't know how often you'd find ordinary yakiniku at a park cookout.
