Everything is a tool, Ennegrams themselves arent saying "this is a + and this is a -"
these terms we apply ourselves and then sometimes attach an emotion to. Everyone wants to use positive words to describe themselves, and its illusionary because every trait has positive and negative synonyms. Are you Steadfast or Stubborn, are you Deceitful or Crafty, things like that.
You are right that you dont use Enneagrams to identify what can be better or worse, but knowing the traits themselves give you an empowered choice that can be an "improvement" of self

I used to play chess back in high school. We had an after school chess club that would meet up and hang out until our parents picked us up.

We also played speed chess, Bughouse chess, and speed bughouse chess (freaking madhouse rules).

If you're not familiar with the Bughouse rule set, I highly recommend it if you have friends to play with.
