I believe, in all honesty, they shouldn't have sold us ships, but rather ship blueprints. And now during these early ship crafting phases, we should just be allowed to be crafting our actual ships. Once actual ship crafting gets launched, whatever ships you weren't able to craft would be unusable in SAGE, until you actually crafted them.

so during ship sales, if they sold us the blueprint, then we would be able to use the blueprint, and gather resources to essentially "craft" (redeem), whatever you want to call it, our actual ship with all components, modules etc.
and for now, during this early phase, we could use the blueprints as funtional ships, much the same way we use crew, even though they're not actually live yet.
of course, it's too late for this, but it might have been more engaging for people buying ships
blueprints must be the most valuable thing in the universe only achievable by super hard missions / raids and i even would limit them in certain ways

emissions needs to be dynamic, i'm sure we might see that going forward, but if a resource is getting oversaturated, the difficulty to mine it should increase, we don't have that mechanic yet, but it must be introduced at some point

everything atm is way too granular, from mining, to freighting, to crafting, to upgrading, it is so easy to calculate everything it's not gamified enough in that regard, IMHO

I mean, it shouldn't be hard to calculate materials required for starbase upgrades and ship crafting, then if you know how long you would like it to take for those starbases to be upgraded, or ships to be crafted, you adjust the difficulty of mining the resources in such a way that if any one certain resource is being overmined, the difficulty to mine that resource increases. I believe we don't have this yet, as they are focusing on other layers of gameplay atm, but I believe we will have this type of dynamic going forward, right now it's too easy
Imo the key issue is optics for prospective new players if OGs have immortal ships while no one else can attain immortality. Whatever the reason for its existence, this dichotomy is awful optics.
I'd say, yeah, we kickstarter funded this project. If we want 10mil users, we have to empower them, not us.

It's difficult to predict how players will behave. I'd start with insurance for a fixed term, then re-evaluate
I just feel it would have been a good incentive to actually use resources as opposed to just seeing how much ATLAS you can make. Or at the very least force people to balance between the two. And anyone who was just max extracting during the limited time frame they would have had to craft their ship, once actual ship crafting goes live, and their blueprints cannot be used as ships anymore, they would be thoroughly screwed, lol.
yes it makes very much sense from many points of view. including being a counterbalance for whales conpounding towards massive fleets vs building the blueprints they already have
also, whales would likely be alot more focused on crafting their own ships, which might take them a good long while, leaving things like LP redemptions and component crafting more readily available for smaller players

It would have also been a way for them to introduce ship crafting at a near infinite scale at a much earlier date.

There's precedent for limited run blueprints (lore is they are limited licenses for X number of X item).
when you design game mechanics you always have a number of ways to justify a rule, including in-lore. I don't see a problem.
You buy a blueprint original license, you can print unlimited.
You buy a blueprint copy (made from origionals), it can have a limited run of 5 for example. (Cheaper than a blueprint original)

But following everything we have been through until now, I feel shipyards are going to be one of the construction spaces that we have in claimstakes, and space stations . They will also come in tiers, which allow different structures to be built/repaired in those places, For example, a tier one shipyard would only have structure for simple repairs and essential components, whereas a tier 5 shipyard would be able to build all Rainbow titan-sized components. Maintenance and upkeep would be needed for the shipyard to function, as well as rental costs, so players would need to strategically place them. Shipyards would also have a limited capability in terms of technology depending on their tiers, so for example, you would need to be focused only on ustur tech, and as you level up your yard, you would also be able to work on OPAL and other ustur connect industries, maybe you could do simple repairs on different manufacturers, but that's it.
Crew members would play a massive role in determining the overall efficiency of your shipyard based on their skills and proficiencies. You would also need a license from special manufacturers to have a shipyard that operates with their stuff. You would need a certain reputation with ogrika if you want an ogrika shipyard.

I feel you will certainly need HRZ materials to build a Rainbow or tufa shipyard, but not necessarily set them there
but I could certainly find lore reasons for that to be the case if game design want š
A simple approach, coming back to our original idea: if your ship is destroyed, you get back a 1-time use blueprint, either by default of perhaps as a form of insurance you had to purchase beforehand. You need to find a shipwright to build it back, in global or local markets. Either you just deposit the blueprint and pay the rest in atlas, or deposit also some or all the components and modules, decreasing the atlas cost (or: modules are always kept when the ship is destroyed, so you always have them ready to deposit). Modules instead should be craftable by yourself, using your own workshop. In case shipwright can be players, they can compete in a reserved market pair, essentially selling ships they already built in exchange for blueprints and atlas/components as above. The ship however can only be claimed after a respawn time of X days.

I can't remember which game, but once I saw a similar system. The issue was that after a week you could find all the recipes online, defeating all the purpose. So a discovery phase can easily become a lot of dev work for little gameplay gain
Could extrapolate it to traditional mmo thinking certain meats/crafting materials all have base attributes they will apply when used. When combining materials itās the attributes that get transferred in the new recipe

as you level up cooking, you learn new ways of combining them
so maybe you can break the nutrients in one food and isolate them to help your combination

Hereās the crafting page, it shows crafting data including which ships you can craft, what they cost to craft, how many have been crafted etc.
This is available if you go to the scanning / cargo tab on Flipside just below that table.
But this stuff is valuable. So like okay an Opod has a scan ROI of like 36%, but a negative mining ROI (makes sense right? Itās a scanner). It also canāt really fight worth a damn, itās meant to stay out of fights.
If you were capable of getting a Mamba Ex for 300 youād have nearly as good of a scanning ROI, a decent / strong mining ROI, and could bounty hunt and fight too.
This is how people here make a lot of their decisions, looking at data and tools like this.
It may sound straight forward. You want to scan, so why not get a scanner? But scanner optimally and getting the best value for your dollars may look different than you expect.
Maybe the real answer is scanning with a squadron of small fighters, or a medium bounty hunter.
Crazy stuff to think about.
This is also why the game is incomprehensibly boring and unattractive to people who arnt into this sort of supernerd shit

Thereās more freight capacity than I need for the SDUās, especially on the return trips so I also ship out ammo and will mine Rochinal so the cargo containers go back to the CSS fully filled up. Adds a nice chunk of change to my overall yield too.
