Anybody having issues with installing upgrades. This was my last batch from SLY upgrade. Tried manually and it ends into the same error message as we had with SDU before. Cleared C&C and used P&S Wallet.

Hey all, I have just one fleet that gives “something went wrong” with any attempted interaction. I’ve tried clearing cache and refreshing since yesterday. All my other fleets are working fine.

I had an issue like that yesterday with it being a false positive finish on an upgrade
I think it might have to do with all the timer changes that happened
mine did clear up in time

however unless you honestly need the crew freed don't put in tools
this is also where faction cordination comes into play
it is possible that mine had the same issue and cleared up with time. The requirements for SDU upgrades looked really long after the last upgrade. Like it suggested that I need 6-7 min to install then the timer showed hour and a half
yeah its looking like timers are all bugged out, guess we need to wait for tomorrow to get it fixed ie I don't want them trying to fix it with just the weekend crew
I don't think finishing the installation requires toolkits - if it does, then there is another bug where the interface should not suggest to install them unless there are toolkits in the base
yeah you don't need active tool kits if its actually finished, if its a false positive then thats a diffrent story ie mine was it was short by 11 min or so but was reading complete in the ui
unfortunatly the only way to test that would be add tool kits or check on that website that tracks everything
If I manage to claim another upgrade without toolkits in the base that should also confirm the test
If unable to complete the deposit it’s likely an rpc issue
the catch is the only way to check if the timer is not actually done would be to add more tool kits
as its the clock display thats all buggy
ie what likely fixed mine was someone added in a few tool kits that finished it out then I was able to claim

also why its best to try to cordinate it in faction ie see if anyone has stuff they need to submit and try to pressure a whale to supply the tool kits

Looks like part of the ingredients didn't make it into the txn. Press start and the game will deposit any missing ingredients and start the crafting job, or cancel to get everything back and start over.
Another pretty recent cause for this is just UI. Everything actually goes through but Starcomm only updates half-way through. So start and cancel don't work. You can cross reference against EveEye to see the correct crafting status and take action based on that.
What about pre-loading FS into un-upgraded bases? 🥴

TL;DR. It's working as it was created, and the opportunity cost of locking your crew while you wait for the job to be ready is althe balancing mechanic.

I'm having this issue all weekend. It just always fails when I try and install to starbase and release my crew. There are no Toolkits at the starbase now, but I feel I've installed before when there has been no Toolkits - anybody know for sure if this is the issue?
Not to mention, you are getting those upgrades done at a discount on toolkits, makes no sense

automation is one thing, but this example is essentially doing something that is not readily known or available through the in-game UI. That is considered cheating in my book. It's not altering game code, but the result is the same as altering the game code.
Most SLY activities (not including this pre-loading thing), are readily available through in-game UI, warping, subwarping, mining, scanning, crafting, etc etc.

I resisited SLY for 3 months on moral grounds of not wanting to bot a game, but gave in eventually when i realized it was an "Intended feature"

pretty much all the features that SLY offers are just automation, every activity is available through in game UI, SLY just automates those activities. But this backdoor frontrunning upgrades is not built into the UI of the game, nobody knows about it at all (until now maybe through hearsay), that's not ok.

FWIW, I am not pro-botting or automation, however, it is allowed. At least SLY is available to everyone that wants to use it, even not being an official tool. Having said that, obviously, using SLY you have an advantage over players not using it, but you are not performing any activities that one cannot perfrom through in-game UI, at least until now with this backdoor pre-loading of starbase components. That is my only point, that you seem to be missing.

I think it's important to distinguish between automation and exploitation. Allowing one doesn't automatically imply allowance of the other.

The problem is in the on-chain program. Anyone can directly interact with that program and issue instructions.
In most other aspects of the SAGE programs, there are checks in place which cause the instruction to error.
For example, if you try to scan before the cooldown is finished, it errors.
We celebrated at my mom's house yesterday (cuz weekend), today is children's day at school, so he is actually having a nice party with his classmates. Then we just do something simple when he gets home 🙂
Not having broken mechanics, and calling it a feature? They're literally saying that upgrading past the tier-compatible list is "working as intended". This is just unbelievably absurd.

It's becoming more and more apparent that there will just be infinite ''edges'' to be had . And if you are normal player with no additional knowledge or skill or time - you will get destroyed . The Escape Velocity event was already only for a small group of players because of automation . Was it like 97% of activity by only couple bot accounts ? And now all the high tier upgrades are only for selected narrow player groups .
I'm Awesome as always! Don't have any work scheduled for today, but I am hopeful something might come up. Pushing my crews and ships as hard as I can.
Escape Velocity bots didn’t make anything more than regular players, rewards were capped
top tier content will always be for a higher tier group, no matter how balanced the game becomes. The only real issue here is that it is not available through in-game UI, and obviously, the disparity of organization (easy to coordinate with 4 players, as opposed to trying to coordinate with 500 players) is what makes it seem bad. The real underlying issue is the fact that 50k+ crew operates at the same cost/efficiency per capita as a 100 crew operation, that is the real problem that needs fixing.
It turns out all the guys who are faction hopping are advocating HARD to get this feature removed. I had to step back and ask myself "why"? It turns out these guys are already timing upgrades to line-up to pre-loading would do nothing for them. Instead, pre-load would hurt them because it allows players that do not play 26 hours per day to get an edge on Starbase upgrades.
Is this all because of the upgrading other tier before the previous one is complete or am I missing something?

The big stink is that everyone thought that the big sniping players could come and preload 120k crew and finish field stabilizers in 8 hours. So this big "worry" caused all the drama.
No official UI access to specific features. But more important, the fact that when present with a clear bug, the team responded with "it's working as intended".
The hilarious part is the big sniping players are already finishing starbase upgrades in < 8 hours, and dont actually need to pre-load.
Preload hurts the big sniping players so they joined on the band wagon to get it removed.
and the issue blew up
The fact that it is not an inherent part of the in-game UI, but people are backdooring and preloading components is what people are complaining about.

If you want my opinion on the matter, it just magnifies a more core issue that needs to be resolved. And that issue is that someone who operates 50k+ crew is running at the same efficiency/cost per capita as someone operating 100 crew, That creates a massive disparity at scale for those operating larger crew amounts, not to mention it is highly unrealistic.

Well, I disagree on the on-chain part being a problem. I think that aspect is absolutely amazing. They just need to be incredibly diligent with the programming.

Preloading is negligible. Anyone who has the power to effectively preload isn't doing it. They are just upgrading the instant the Starbase flips because they are playing 26 hours a day.

I'm not sure if you know this but Ustur had 2 Starbases upgrade to Tier2 in the last couple of days and filled with Field Stabilizers from 120k crew in less then 8 hours. Every time this happens Discord gets crazy.
I mean, lets be real, if people are doing things that are not available through in-game UI, are cheating, for lack of a better word. Then for the devs to turn around and just say "it's by design" is strange, lol. It needs to be worked into the UI as quickly as possible, if it is by design.
You realize this tech has existed for less than 6 months right?
Just leave and come back when you can feel more comfortable using it

Brother, there’s no team that listens more to community feedback than this one. But lately it feels like every time something happens people like yourself start screaming “we’re doomed, this is the end of the project”.
Stuff like this will continue happening and we’ll have to constantly work on fixes, but as a user you need to understand how early in the process we are.
I think the crux of Lerinor's concern here is with the team's response.
There is a capability that is unavailable through the normal UI, but the team says is intended to be there.

It would go a long way to just say something additional like "We are aware this is not an inherent part of the UI, but is currently working as intended. We are still collecting feedback on this feature to see if it makes sense or should be removed."

The fact that we have devs interacting here with people is quite wild, but sometimes it can trigger emotional responses like what Lerinor was sharing. I understand your guys' point and I think it's more what Bryan is saying, Xcode didn't really realize that it was an actual issue. I saw the internal channels, they're working on a fix.
Well it's not even that's some parts of upgrading are unavailable , but more because there is monetary incentive involved and because of that it's creating this ecosystem which promotes better and more efficient tools to be created to extract value and will be done privately to gain the edge on others . We can't deny how impactful for production increase was the sly tools . And the only reason we have them because the guys chose to release them for no cost at all . And at the moment it seems the gap between players is growing bigger daily , at least that's the feeling . We are not even that late in the game to make parts of the game unusable for most . Will we reach 2 hour FS filling times soon ?

Exactly. The problem is anything related to sniping field stabilizers is a MASSIVE pain point. It's just such a naturally disliked feature that anything that touches it causes massive drama.

I think a fix like that can take more development time than it was expected before. But I'm happy to check status for this specific one today.
Those 2 items were never even announced as a future fix. We only have seen the export tax "fix". It's why we are all up in arms about the future and the perception of how we are not heard.

Hurts smaller players more. Whales can and will pay the fee because the earned amount in LP will offset it especially since they can wipe an entire upgrade component in hours. Smaller players cannot offset it. Again, this goes against the statement that team is listening. We have been saying this since the announcement.

We have all discussed them and almost everybody has agreed that they would like to see them implemented (in fact have never seen anybody argue against them honestly). The team decided to forge their own path.
To me it is clear who this game is being built for (and who they listen to) and I have been vocal about it while exiting. Unfortunately I am stuck with locked positions.

If measures are not taken soon, it seems we will forget about the "power of people" entirely, and with small and medium players leaving the game, we will be watching a version of the game played automatically by 10-15 people. The sly module is very useful and I use it myself, but what happened today at ustur mrz22 cannot be explained solely by the sly module! It is very interesting that FS can be booted and this is overlooked (considered normal) by the team.

This is true. If auto-redemptions were on it wouldnt really matter who sniped what/where because it wouldnt be profitable to do on a short term basis and thus preloading wouldnt have any power.

- Add a ''starbase finalizing'' timer after completing a tier. So that all players have an equal opportunity to add FS, RA, PA in the next sb tier. // The flip between starbase tiers rn is decided solely by big players - they can do it in the next 1 hour or next 3 days. - completely up do them , which makes it easy for them to canabalize the upgrades . And when the crew purchases will be live - it will be a game over for plebs .
- Change the toolkit gate so that everyone can work on upgrades in any sb without toolkits - similar to current crafting system with tiers // Having to race to sb where toolkits are provided and make it there before supply run out or sitting in a sb without toolkits and waiting is not fun.

An approach that incentivizes will always be better than an approach that disincentivizes. Cost of running business is a thing, if everyone is running around Galia with no consideration of cost of operations, we will create a black hole of value being extracted from the system with no sinks. This will have a negative impact long term, not a positive one.
With the current update of no food needed for crafting already is removing the incentive to inject food into starbases. Do that for toolkits too, and what do we have ? might as well go play Axie infinity where for some boring repeatable tasks, you get free money handed to you.
Then we can watch ATLAS plummet in value the same way SPL did.
Sometimes it's like people have never played a game before, there has to be sinks, there has to be strategy, you have to be able to chose between 1 thing or another. It can't just be everyone gets to do everything for free and at no consequence should they make an error in judgement, that won't be good for the longevity of the game.
The issue i have with the sb upkeep is that it does not scale . on T1 sb a small player has to provide 100k toolkits to get a 21 min upgrade window . I have toolkits and yet i never use them , it's pointless . I don't have 1k crew to take advantage of those 20 min efficiently .
So many things in Starbased for me just feel completely ''gated''
Toolkit + food should be added as cost when starting the orders. Kinda like scanning. Problem solved.
The upkeep system was supposed to dilute costs, as in, small players can piggyback on bigger players. It failed.
Add to that the complete lack of collective play incentive from LP system, and we arrive at where we're at.
Everyone scanning pays that cost, and it works as intended. A food sink. Just do the same for crafting.
I like the idea of collaboration, and essentially "sharing" the food or toolkits with whoever will use your crafting window. It is just unrealistic that one should get to use those windows free of charge. If there was an incentive in that the person providing the food or toolkits gets rewarded for doing so dependent on how many other people use their window, you would see many more starbases upkept for longer periods of time, because all of a sudden, there is an incentive to do so. Not only that, but it will encourage announcing when you open crafting/upgrade windows, and maintain the collaboration playstyle which I think is the direction they are trying to go.
I see it as a communal silo, whereby everyone is getting to eat the food provided by one player
instead of each player having their own little silo, which is kinda unrealistic.
The main issue is that the person providing the food, their only incentive currently is to speed up their own craft, before they had to do it otherwise they couldn't craft at all, but that incentive is significantly reduced now with the crafting speed only being reduced
Until LP can be extracted/exploited like it currently happens, there's no collective play.
It's bigger players chasing cheaper operations. And as a colateral effect, bases get upgraded.
Should be the opposite. Upgrading the bases provide a proper reward, more if done towards a collective goal.

That's the thing the is no collaboration mechanism in game at all apart from guilds . A lot of player would be happy to chime any amount of toolkits if they would know it would lead to some goal apart from earning LP. Right now supplying only millions make any sense .
Purpose will come in time (combat, strategic base's roles, etc.)
current incentives are purely monetary, but even later, most incentives will be purely monetary, whether to get ahead in the game, or to cash out is irrelevant. The incentives will remain the same.
Incentive is what we're lacking. Currently, the incentive is Atlas. And finding the cheapest Atlas source.

well, imagine if you knew when supplying toolkits, you would get a portion of the LP earned by players using your upgrade window, all of a sudden this opens opportunities for smaller groups of players to do something interesting. or at the very least, to announce to high heavens when you are providing toolkits, because you want as many people as possible to use your window.

Would whales exploit it? Totally! But no loss, because that would mean they'd provide tools/food. The exploitation itself would trickle down to anyone benefiting from using the crafting window opened.
that's the beauty of it, if whales want to try and "exploit" it, they could only do it to the extent of people actually wanting to use crafting/upgrade windows, it doesn't automatically guarantee profits, it just increases your chances that if you get enough people to use your window, it could potentially be break even, at least.
It also opens up opportunities for things like sanctions and sabotage, which is kinda interesting.
if a whale thinks they can just go around supplying starbases, and rake it in, it won't happen, because most of their injections wouldn't even be used. There would still be a reason to want to use your own crafting/upgrade window. injecting food or toolkits would not become a meta play or something.
I'm down for any idea that tries something different. The current system failed, as far as collective play style.

Idk man , the current system seemsreally fucked . I would love to see how many players are actually upkeeping . Imo only for big players it's viable atm . For everyone else - no incentive at all .
the reason it seems unviable, is because most people don't have 30% crew, if you have 30% crew, it is viable.
if your total fleet investment is worth $1000, you should have $300 worth of just crew. Most people are not playing callibrated this way, which is why it seems unviable.
But that is actually my point, like, the fact that you have to actually think abit about your fleets, and callibrate, that is kinda good, in terms of gameplay. it is just unfortunate that we only really have 1 loop, and it's not a great one, but as more loops get integrated, it will improve.
You are completely correct , i do have medium ships and i feel like there is less and less gameplay loops to engage in . It's like 5 crew per ship for M . At this point i have no idea what to engage in if not investing in more crew .

yup, if you want to participate in the LP game, fleet composition is super important. Most people don't want to restrucuture their fleets, but if they did, they would probably have less to complain about.

I would say that smaller players are kinda stuck between choosing SDU scanning, or mining raw and selling, or doing small crafting jobs, and selling. It is quite normal in games of this nature that crafting is a higher scale activity, seems to be the case here too.

I think this is more of a band-aid. I see the core problem as the combination of a shared LP pool, lack of diminishing returns, and a lack of a meaningful small-player game loop with independent rewards.
It seems like small players need to still invest quite a bit in order to participate in this economic game. Its not a traditional game by any means. I am looking at making .05 percent per day as a small player, minus the fees and
(extensive deposits 30$ until returned) I am forced to use low priority fees as a small player to make it worth it. I think if the mechanics become more streamlined with further developments fees could go down which would help small players more than anything. I always leave one item in inventory when transferring to avoid constantly paying for new token account hashing. I think that .05 percent per day is a reasonable return if that can be achieved but investing only 100$ in any economy is not going to get one far. We have to think bigger when we are thinking about economic "engagement". The social engagement will be built on top of the economic engagement. If the whales and the small players need one another economically I think this is the type of engagment the team is attempting to develop in their LP scheme...
I can't wait to see the battles and the pirating begin! Free economy never takes place long without security!

This last bit about bigger and smaller players depending on one another - I think that's a great point, and highlights a significant gap right now. Currently, it's very much a one-way dependency.

I see the current LP structure as a means to an end, which is why it doesn't bother me so much. The more systems that are in place to exchange value between players, the easier it will become to wean people off LP redemptions for ATLAS.
Using resources in exchange for LP is an option, it is not mandatory...
diminishing returns on crew will fix alot of issues currently, I feel. hopefully it is something being considered
btw, a system where value is exchanged between someone using an upgrade window and someone providing toolkits, is a great way for smaller players to actually get a leg up on bigger players. If a big player uses a smaller player's upgrade window using a shitton of crew, the value of LP transfer from bigger player to smaller player should be substantial enough to make chasing that kind of thing actually worth doing for a smaller player. Whereas for a bigger player, they would still be primarily injecting toolkits only because they plan to do their own upgrading.
its better for them to build out the other planned systems before doing things on chain to fix this one

I assumed that there was various ways in which larger players did manage to make larger percentages but that they naturally would be more confined to producing selling and providing raw resources with big fleets and small crews. I am new and so am just assuming this must be the intent of reliance with the food and toolkit mechanics. Otherwise it could obvoiusly just work like any other burn where you have to pay so much food or toolkits per craft just like you have to pay so much food and ammo to mine etc.
the main thing that larger players get right now as far as return is the fact that if they threw all of what is submitted to starbases up on the market it would just crash the market
effectively the race to the bottom is going to happen until we have more econ loops

the game is doing fine aobut 3 mil generated from titan sales about half a mil generated from crew presales + the existing runway prior and all the other income being generated

It sounds like small players pay more percentage wise on transaction fees, and big players pay more percentage wise for their LP at turn in.. What kind of daily percentage return are whales earning overall I wonder, if a small fry could earn .045 daily after fees on a decent day.

that depends on set up, however large enough players the fees cut into profits a bit but don't mean much as the r4 is also effectively not a factor for them ether, its only very small players that are truly impacted by the tx fees anyone else just needs to minimize the fleets they use

Here is a message from Michael (CEO) regarding small players on SAGE. More long-term than your question but worth a read!
“A few people from the team have also asked me about issues with smaller players, particularly as it relates to tx fee issues. That separately needs to be resolved. But I also want to emphasize something I've said countless times on interviews.
The long-term success of the SA economy requires sufficiently complex systems to enable specialization. Right now, big players can do all things; smaller asset players can't. Until we can have a blend of game activities that makes it impossible for everyone to do everything, the current dynamic will persist. I've commented on various tie-ins to the UE experience that should create some big impacts to the economy. i.e. Skill based betting races in UE5 that consume food and ammo. In that model, it is zero inflationary from an ATLAS standpoint. We don't have ATLAS emissions. Players pay an ante for a chance to win from the race pool, if they're good enough. But they also need resources. So either they go in SAGE to farm them, or buy it from someone else.
The key point is that I think I/we need to be better at communicating is that long term, there is no reason for people to be so fired up about competition for the ATLAS emissions in SAGE. The emission curve is literally a bootstrapping mechanism for this phase of the economy. It kicks everything off. But players should really be focusing on how they can develop an operation that is in demand from other players. Because those other players are your P2E income source. People purchasing resources for skin crafting, gameplay, convenience, or necessity. You're the producer. That's the big gift we're giving you. We don't sit in the middle and say ATMTA is the only entity that can sell those items to players. In fact, we don't sell any of them, just like how R4 works today.
And a final note on this, because it was also asked. Right now it might not feel like much of an incentive to bring new players in because then they "take" from your share of daily emissions. But even now, it's healthy for the ecosystem to see player growth. For all of the assets you already own. For network effect. But also because having a larger player base will also lead to greater demand (alongside supply) throughout the economy. A higher GDP, and more trade activity, and more pockets of opportunity.”

Question about selling on the marketplace. Is it normal for there to be $34 in fees for selling a $540 ship??
There are 6 percent fees to the DAO unless you have atlas staked in the "locker" which drops them a little. Fees go to DAO

You also pay 6 percent on crafting in game, so pretty much the design is for the DAO to benefit from game growth, but yes you may have to hold em and use the ship to out grow that 6 percent
I paid the piper to trade ships recently. It would be nice if there could be an option for ship trading with lower fees in order to optimize fleets.
