It does not affect reward. it is gameplay feature than just killing not enough, you need to submit the tag successfully. for event it is not compulsory to be a good player. just play matches

You don't have to, I mean this is more of a resource-accumulation aspect of the game. I suppose, the bigger your fleet is, the longer it takes to mine/craft materials? But if you want to take the AFK approach for Based, I guess you can research more about the Sly tool they have in the community

there are community scripts for automating certain actions like mining, transport and scanning. As long as your have a computer running that can host the script you can be active all time. For certain actions like crafting or starbase upgrades, lp redemption you will need to be active manually, but if you time them right you can do this once per day

Yeah, currently faction fleet is nerfed pretty hard and eventually they will be shut down completely according to plan ( only claim stakes will remain ). Even the most basic action of mining hydrogen at css base using the script ( non-stop mining ) currently seems way better than faction fleet.
There are also some strategies involving crafting for which you will need whole lot of xxs ships - I think you can be more passive and do them manually. If you time them right you can start the craft and collect the result after a day even two. Current issue with that is that you rely that the css is always stacked with food

The first surge event was from 6-9PM UTC, so not sure what you are talking about. The second one was not good being from 3-6AM UTC, but the first one was perfect time.

I find that happens every so often for me, and waiting a few minutes + a refresh usually fixes that up
Most likely your ships are fine (unless something happened... hopefully not 🤞 ), because the game really just reads the Solana blockchain
