writing this to procrastinate act prep. input welcome 🤗
I'm trying to limit my list so I have to pick one
Schools: University of Oklahoma and University of Texas at Dallas
Intended major: Economics
Similarities: I believe they'd have a similar cost. OU has a generous NMSF that I believe I'll qualify for. UTD has a full tuition NM finalist scholarship (idk if I'll get that) plus some others I may qualify for though they're competitive, but I'm in-state so tuition isn't high anyway. They're similarly sized schools (18,564 vs 17,979) and public.
OU
Pros-
Not in Texas
Guaranteed scholarship
Technically higher ranked and I believe it has a better reputation
Oklahoma's flagship, so lots of resources.
accelerated Econ BA/MA with emphasis on big data
huge pog
Cons-
Location. I prefer urban places and while Norman is close to OKC it looks like the most boring suburbia imaginable.
It's a football school so literally everyone and their mother wants to go there. I know no college is HS part two but this would be close.
UTD
Pros-
In-state tuition
Nerd school which I consider a plus because idk i like quirky people. This can be a con too (see below).
Location is more urban. Campus looks nice. (though Richardson is still the mf suburbs)
More diverse. OU is not bad on this front but 60% white so it has an overwhelming majority. UTD has a 40% asian plurality but no racial majority.
Cons-
Close enough that my mom can drive up whenever she wants to see me. So too damn close.
I want to leave Dallas and the connections will probably be very regional. OU probably has the same problem tbh but it is a flagship and UTD is not.
Commuter school. People say it's socially dead.
weeb population is too high smh ||https://www.reddit.com/r/utdallas/comments/v2ljqo/will_i_be_made_fun_of_if_i_bring_my_waifu_pillow/?ref=share&ref_source=link||
Tiebreaking considerations:
Which has better career opportunities, I guess.
