Just got of UCSC's waitlist and need to decide
CSU Chico
Pros

  • Smaller class sizes (30 - 40ish people) to allow for better connection w professors and other
  • cost is ~24k a year (could go down next year if I get a scholarship)
  • all my ap + cc credit is accepted (30 credits); I will graduate early by at least a year; I've already stratified most ge credit
  • free access to the student rec center w additional classes
  • mobile dev and ai classes are some really cool electives

Cons

  • 3 hrs away from home and in a college town
  • class rigor may not be at the level i'm used to (but this is something that is depend)
  • college is very small and not as well known so there may be fewer opportunities
  • probs less clubs and ecs due to the small size of the college

UC Santa Cruz
Pros

  • ~1hr 30 mins from home near a significantly bigger city & closer to friends and family
  • has game design, vr/ar, and ai elective/classes
  • def more well know = has more prestige; may lead to more/better connections; is a better school for cs
  • class rigor is probs going to be harder
  • more clubs + resources

Cons

  • Only some of my ap + cc credit is accepted
  • cost ~40k not sure about aid + fees 4 rec center
  • ↑ class size
  • would graduate in 4 yr (maybe a semester early at the best)
  • probs more completive (pro and con)
still raft

I've heard UCSC's CS program is really good. If you are able to afford the cost of UCSC per year instead, I'd go with that option 100% over Chico. Especially since it's in silicon valley, it's also a plus.
