@candid oracle if your post is over 35 lines you need to split it into two
ill bypass it for you this time
Hey guys, I'm a rising senior and am currently thinking of my college list come app season. Here are what I'm interested in:
Location/Region:
Don't like schools like NYU which are basically part of the location they're in, I'd like an environment distinct from its surroundings as the college. I'm not so sure about very rural colleges, but I'm fine with colleges like UVA as long as there is direct transportation to a major city nearby. My mom doesn't want me to go too far from home, but I'm fine with west coast colleges as long as they are a marginal percentage of the schools I'm applying to (I'd like to stay on the East Coast / Eastern Side of the US).
Major:
Most likely CS, but I will definitely either switch my major or double major in another interest, as well as try to minor in the humanities. I'm definitely looking for schools that have strong programs across their disciplines, (i.e. UVA) but schools with CS, Math, Econ, or Bio focuses are also fine.
GPA/Test Scores (optional):
I'm around a 3.89 UW / 4.29 W -- I haven't taken my SAT yet and am currently planning to take both August and October, but I got a 1350 on my PSAT (early Junior year).
Curriculum:
I am not looking for a laid back academic environment--closer to work hard, play hard, with hard classes that actually teach things, and an expansive curriculum with multiple strong areas. Open curriculums are also nice, but I do like things such as the core curriculum.
Size:
Not overly large (Texas A&M) or overly small (CalTech). I'm fine with UVA size to MIT size in terms of undergrad population.Costs:
I will definitely be needing aid, but for the sake of my college list, I'd rather not have money be taken into account.
Schools you're currently looking at (if any):
Reaches:
MIT (just for fun lol)
Georgia Tech
Duke (maybe)
needs workTargets:
UVA (Early Decision school)
UMD (?)
needs workSafeties:
GMU
VCU
VT
JMU(?)
Any ideas?
.
upiss
so UPenn + UPitt
for hard ass reaches
comp sci safeties don’t exist
@gusty fern
You can always apply to Georgia Tech and UW-Madison
UMich Ann Arbor is cracked iirc
and if you like the core then I have to sadly recommend c*lumbia
hi
i'm not good enough for ivies lol
gpa is shitty and ecs are super lacking
unless i pop off and get everything i want to get done done this summer
then like maybe 1% chance
but i'm for sure ed'ing to uva
@lyric smelt
i'm planning to apply as comp sci intended then probably switch to something either premed or econ or soemthing with either a double major in cs or a minor
because it's too late to pivot and my profile already has a decent amt of cs stuff
any other recommendations?
