#Rising senior aiming for CompSci - Looking for target and safety schools

All of the following unis have ML/robotics as a specialization or a minor
CMU, high reach. CS program tied #1 with MIT, Cal and stanford. tight knit community but workload is heavy but its worth it for the outcome and returns
Georgia Tech, very high target. Next tier of CS programs when compared to MIT and CMU but still top notch
Virginia Tech, low target. Amazing engineering program (cs is under college of engg) 1st or 2nd in food across the us competing with UCLA, offers robotics and machine learning as independent majors for undergrad
If you're looking into UT Austin, also consider Rice as a reach and Texas A&M as a target :)
UTD can work as a nice safety too
Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into all of them
i think University of washington - seattle is pretty good
they got lots of internship opportunities in big companies like amazon, Microsoft, and starbucks
The CS program is also ranked top 10 in the USA according to US News and csrankings
it depends on ur ECs, Udub is really hard to get in consider you are an international student
I think ur grades and sat is pretty gud
I'm actually domestic, just asian american. Is out of state very difficult as well?
yep OOS CS is about 2% acceptance rate
UT austin is the same
UT austin CS OOS acceptance rate might be <1%
maybe try purdue
yes
no... it's bad but not THAT bad
UT out of state acceptance rate is around 8-10%
For CS probably less but I'd imagine it's no less than 5%, even with the most pessimistic of estimates
Definitely apply to UMD College Park as a target, their supplements are also only 5 answers of 160 characters (1-2 sentences) so it won’t be a lot of work
Getting admission to UWash direct to CS is very hard but it’s much easier to get Engineering undeclared so if you’re open to not doing cs you can consider applying UWash
