#Emory vs. UNC (OOS) for Pre-med

my mom's friend's son is considering becoming a DO and he went to washu i think
the competition is insane
this is why premeds should always pick the highest gpa school
not like uc berkeley
yea
I never get why they often pick the most challenging school
idk what he's doing now tho
like if you pick Cornell you're going to destroy your gpa
there are exceptions but generally yeah
that's why I tell everyone to go to a state school unless you got financial aid
yes
there's literally no reason to pick a private and go into debt for it
yea
It turns out I got off the Emory waitlist today, what are your thoughts on Emory
I would think a school like Harvard would definitely offer some prestige right, wouldn't going to a T20 private school mean something
is this transfer or undergrad? bc im on the emory waitlist too
also if ur doing premed, then you want to select the cheaper school
20k per year more is a LOT
legit just for the first job, but from there its experience
no reason to pick emory
unless there is some gpa or financial benefit
lol you're using it as a waitlist stopgap?
nah, not really
but at the same time i want to get in for fall bc its more convenient
undergrad
I got off the waitlist
I'm going to WashU and I also have to pay the entire tuition ๐ญ
Although it's a private uni, I wish they lowered it for instaters
that would be quite a lot
hopefully your parents are in a professional career or in tech
otherwise it would be very expensive
MD and EE Distinguished Prof
still is expensive ๐
Oh man
Congrats on WashU, the tuition does suck though
Right now I'm between Emory and UNC and I'm just so lost on what to choose
Emory vs. UNC (OOS) for Pre-med
at least a loan would not be needed lol
which one has a higher average gpa? and how much of a factor is cost?
U right lol
the grading seems to be similar at both schools
I think academically, Emory and UNC are basically the same
However, Emory has a smaller student population and I'm not sure if that would mean finding research would be easier, because Emory is near the CDC, Grady Hospital, etc
maybe also consider the competitiveness of positions at emory too, bc soo many people are trying to go for premed
